I know that some people hype about this place up, but I found it to be kinda Old and tired. The waitress made two mistakes with our order, you have to understand this is not a really big place, may be 40 people at the most would pack this restaurant. The food was average, with above average prices. I don't care much about being entertained by a magician while eating, may be a good place for your kids,....For the money, lots of better places around.

This is a great diner and one of the first places I take house guests. The place is like walking into a time warp. There is 50s memoribilia all over the walls, the wait staff and cooks are in diner attire and they've even got the great vinyl covered booths. The food is great for good prices. They also connect four and various board games to play while you wait and magicians touring the tables on the weekend. It's just all around good time.

I love the 50's decor and the music on the juke box!!!! I feel like I'm actually in the 1950's everytime I eat there. Which is about twice a week!!! Everything on the menu that I've had so far is delicious. The fried chicken and theyre shakes are the best!!!!!!!

Cons: none that i can think of

This is a real fun place for kids. They will bring you coloring supplies and a balloon as soon as you sit down. Classic diner dishes, separate kids menu. Awesome shakes.

Cafe 50s is head to toe resurrected from the past. The waitresses seem transported from the 50s and don the ruby-lipped smile that is cliche but endearing. That's the word for this place: endearing. The efforts that are made into making this joint a family, community spot is heartwarming. Craft nights and charity projects alike are displayed on walls alongside 50s knick-knacks and calendar prints. The booths are red, the floor is checkered black and white, and there seems to be a long-running joke throughout the room. For instance, a sticker on the milk canister reads "If you don't like our milk, go milk your own!" and is just like the restaurant's frank humor. Fun little games are played around christmas time with customers, such as surprise coupons that you can't open until after christmas in front of a waitress. The food is also one of the best diner food I've ever tasted. Their brunch, especially! Oh, and being in LA and all, I better mention a celebrity sighting. Adam Sandler, as inconspicious as ever, with his wife and kid. But no one in the restaurant cared, because its just that chill!

Pros: FOOD, VIBE, CHARACTER, FREE WI-FI, PARKING ON STREET, THEME NIGHTS, PLAIN INNOCENT FUN!

Cons: none!

Intriguing retro decor, and tasty milk shake! The milk shake costs about 5 bucks for one, but they are quite big portion, you can hardly finish it on your own. I would definitely try their burger next time. And they have a pajamas' night every Wednesday night, if you are brave enough to have a free or half price meal for return.

Pros: Intriguing ambience, children friendly, good milk shake

Cons: a quirky smell, small table

.

Stopped in for the first time on my way to the beach with my 5 year old and his friend. It's easy to impress my boy with any restaurant that serves fries - but I'm more discerning. Sampled three different breakfasts and this is the best DINER in town. But the COOLEST thing about this already super cool retro retreat - is there was a magician walking around doing free magic at all the tables! It's a little far for us to go every weekend, but if it weren't , we'd be regulars for sure.

Pros: DINER FARE, Retro decor, Magician, Mardi Gras beads for Katrina fundraising.

Cons: Too far to walk to

While the '50s decor can seem a little over-the-top, the shakes and classic diner food make this one of my favorite stops. A more homey version of Johnny Rockets, Cafe 50s offers booth or counter seating. Order an egg cream or choose from their vast menu of malts or shakes, try the butterfinger shake or coffee banana malt. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and offer the usual burgers, hot dogs, and sandwiches along with "blue plate specials" like chicken fried steak and meatloaf served with heaping portions of homemade mashed potatoes and gravy. Be sure to sign up for their e-mail mailing list as they offer weekly coupons and a free meal on your birthday!

Pros: Fast Service, Fun Decor, Large Portions, Low Prices

Cons: Street Parking

.

Street parking makes visiting this Cafe 50s a bit difficult if not impossible certain times, their selection of milkshakes alone are worth coming here for. Their food's better than most other diners in the area.

If you are feeling like a good malt or a shake, Cafe 50's always is there to please: choose from a large selection, Fudge Brownie Vanilla, Oreo etc. These are a good idea for a date. The B Movie Posters on the wall are ever entertaining, and the half portion of chilli cheese fries is large enough to feed an entire village.

Pros: Oreo Shake, Booths, Wallpaper

Good burgers, sandwiches, etc. Even better milkshakes... there are so many varieties and I don't think any of them are bad (this includes the PB&J flavor).

So my last and only visit to this place does not recall very many good food-memories. The place has a great vibe/decorative environment. The service was incredibly bad the night I went with my girlfriend. Food took forever to get there. We ordered buffalo wings and an omelette. There was also the truffle shake, it was tasty. The shake arrived about 20min after we ordered and the food arrived another 20min later. The menu deals are definitely worth a look at. I also heard from a friend the other day that the burger meat size shrank. People do notice these things and it only brings your reputation down. I wouldn't go here again if I had the option.

I love Cafe 50's. The food is always good and the service is great too. The staff is so friendly - even when they are really busy. It's fairly inexpensive and it's always very clean. Highly recommended.

Pros: Food, Service, Inexpensive

Cons: Parking

The ambiance is terrific, as the feel of the 50's is definitely conveyed. The food is good, but the protions are just average. Shakes are delicious. Prices are rather steep thoug, because after a shake and a sandwich, the price runs upwards of $12-$15.

In terms of food, this place is average, offering the standard fare of burgers, omelets fries and the like. What sets them apart is the special nights they have there, including "Pajama Wednesdays," where if you wear your pajama top and bottom to the restaurant wednesday nights, your meal is free (something like that, don't quote me). They also have days where a magician comes in and performs tricks at your table while you eat (great for kids).

Parking is tough, there is a small lot in the back with meters, and a few spaces on the busy Santa Monica Blvd.

PROS: special deals, nights
CONS: parking

The meals have generous portions & taste good. Their Pajama Party Wednesdays are a hoot & Sunday brunches are magical (in house table-side entertainment). Not many places left where you can have a truly magical experience right at your table. Cheerful staff puts the fun back in dining. & Their Frequent Diner program keeps me coming back for more.!!!

While previously having a good experience here, our last visit was a disaster. The service was just completely incompetent, and the food was really lackluster. I doubt we'll be back anytime soon.

The place really does resemble an old 50's malt shop/diner. On our first visit, we thought Rich's breakfast burrito was tasty, with a nice mix of good bacon, scrambled eggs, onions, and peppers. Chris enjoyed his scrambled eggs, too. For dessert, we shared a Butterfinger shake, which was just incredible. They offer an amazing selection of interesting-sounding shakes.
