Ratings_icons BEWARE!!! I got burned for hundreds $$$

Mark J.

I went into Melrose Mac about a year ago. I purchased some peripherals for my mac. The items were not more than a few hundred dollars. I tried to use the item for the given job on my FCP system and the software hardware combination wouldn't work for my client. I tried for hours to output the job using my set-up hooked to a Sony HDW HD deck and ended up renting the needed gear. Upon returning the items to Melrose Mac, they immediately told me 15% restock fee. I asked if they wouldn't charge me 15% for the restock fee but they said it was open box and that was there policy. I agreed to the charge and returned the item. I basically signed a duplicate invoice saying that the item was returned. Anyhow, the item was returned and the amount was never credited back to my credit card. I went back and forth with the merchant and the credit card, but it was obvious that i was not going to get refunded. In my opinion I think it was very unscrupulous for Melrose Mac to say the item was not returned when i set it on the counter. The item was returned within 7 days and they stiffed me for a few hundred. It is a pittance of money, but if they treat their customers this way I would recommend that you shop elsewhere. DV411, ProMax, the Apple Store and B&H Photo Video in NY will be very close in price and will provide you better service.

Ratings_icons YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOW THE PROCESS!

James F.

This place is five stars if you know the appropriate process. Call and ask for Kellan, if Kellan isn't there, ask for Manny, if neither are there, call back later. This process will ensure an excellent experience. This store gets my thumbs up!

Ratings_icons Great store in great location away from the mobs!

Lee S.

I had a wonderful experience with the people that helped me. Specifically, a young man named Kelan (spelling??) who was so courteous, professional and just plain fun to talk with. I am fairly new to mac and have so much to learn about what my computer is capable of. Everyone at the store were so knowledgeable that I came away with more new things to try than I had expected.

Ratings_icons be warned

andreas f.

first i want to point out that i am not here to whine about, but:

if you experiencing problems - for your own sake, dont go there.

that girl that is communicating between you and the engineer doesnt have even a slightest clue of what her company is working in.

my problem was some accidentially erased data, basically 2 weeks of work.

so after about 10 phonecalls and 4 days of waiting + another 5 hours in and around the store i paid 150 dollar for restored data i didnt even need
the material i was hoping for is lost forever.

my questions:

why do the want to sell me an additional totally overpriced harddrive if i just need approx 50 MB back?

why does the girl i had to deal with not even know how to spell ".wav", nor know the difference between KB and MB, aiff and mp3, subfolders etc?

why do the asked me for the name of the deleted file even if their recovery program doesnt show file-names anyway?

why do i have to deal for 4 valueable days with someone totally incapabable of her work to finally wait in the store till the job is done?

why is it impossible speaking with the technician if a lot of misunderstandings could have been solved immediately?

why havent they even heard of Data Rescue, the best program when it comes to erased data?

thanks Melrose Mac, 2 more weeks to go to get back to what you were paid to recover.

Ratings_icons Didn't receive great customer service

Anonymous

I was not impressed with the service I received from this shop.

I called two days in a row regarding a memory upgrade for my older iMac. (I called the previous week and the memory that I needed was not in stock at the time.) The first call I made on the following week, I was told that the memory would cost me $49. When I followed up the next day to confirm they had the memory in stock, they said the price was $59. They said the price fluctuates because this memory is hard to find. Searches I did on macconnection.com and other sites seemed to indicate that the memory for my mac was fairly accessible, plus their Hollywood store had the memory in stock. I choose to get my Mac serviced in Burbank because of the proximity to my work location. In any case, after I pressed them on it, they did agree to sell it to me for the original price that they quoted.

Unfortunately the memory was not installed correctly and when I turned on my computer that night, it was showing that I actually had less memory than I started with earlier that day. MelroseMac also did not give me the original memory stick that they removed from my computer (until I brought it back the next day.) When I brought it back the following business day to explain the problem, they were not apologetic about their error. If anything, they actually sort of blamed it on me by saying, the stick probably giggled loose on the car ride home. Both times I was in the shop, the people I dealt with were not even remotely friendly. Overall it was a bad customer service experience.

Needless today, I dont recommend them and will not be returning there for service.

This guys are great, the service department is superb, you get better treatment here compared to the Apple Store. The manager Manuel Garcia an Irish Portuguese is really helpful and on top of everything.
And they got great stuff for sale.I will be buying my next Mac from them. meanwhile they have fixed mine with no hassles. on delivered long before it was promised. you can rely on them specially when you can figure out

Ratings_icons A cool boutique for mac lovers!

Joe R. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,122

If you're too tired, lazy or paranoid about shuffling off to the Glendale Galleria or the Grove to check out Apple stuff, then this little shop may just be the ticket! They not only sell new G5s, PowerBooks, and iBooks, but many peripherals as well (awesome laptop cases too!). They also have a great service department!

PROS: quiet, out of the way, many hard-to-find items
CONS: short hours
