Gerrard's IS my local market. They have a bit of almost everything. Some high line items and all the regular supplies for everyday. My family consistently gets good quality produce & groceries in general. It is an excellent resource for locally grown, fresh foods. The staff is pleasant, and generally quite helpful. They hire local people & are very supportive of our youth. We see everyone at Gerrard's.
When the big chains had the strikes a few years ago we did a cost/benefit analysis and found we spent no more $$ than the chain supermarkets ! We do check out the ads and found that with little effort we could match what we paid at a chain and in some instances even save even more money. Now I have completely replaced one of the chain stores and go to the other one ONLY to get specific items that are not carried by Gerrard's. I also have the option to speak to management about acquiring an item for me. It may not be everyone's ideal market but it comes close for many many of us
The market itself is OK and the bakery is average. The food in the deli is only fair and the service in the deli is terrible. In the past two weeks I have left the store 3 times in the evening because I could not get service in the deli. One of the times two girls were standing in the back talking while one girl waited on customers. She asked for help and they ignored her. Tonight I purchased a half pound of shredded BBQ beef. When I got home I discovered that I had a half pound of fat. It was the most expensive dog food that I have purchased.
Food in the Frozen food section is soft and melting or at the very least unfrozen. As the manager told me tonight, "at least it is cold". When I stated that food that is sold as FROZEN, should be frozen, not thawing or melting, she stated, "there's nothing that we can do." She went on to suggest that I purchase my "frozen food" at a different market since I was not happy with their soft vegetables in their frozen food section. Food once frozen and then allowed to thaw has less food value, is more prone to spoiling, and may in fact be dangerous due to the opportunity for bacteria to grow. The flavor also suffers. I would highly reccommend that everyone purchase their "frozen" foods elsewhere as I will be from now on.
This store does a great job maximizing it's small space. I really like how they're barbecuing out front pretty much every day. Makes it feel like every time I go to the store there's an event going on. Prices are reasonable for it being an independent. Meat and deli products are all great quality.
I get all my foods and wines at Gerrards. They have stuff that my "big box" grocer doesn't even know what is!
Lot's of cheeses and wines from around the world. Great recipes for cheeses, produce and mixed drinks are also available.
Great service from their wonderfully knowlegable staff.
as a brother with a bad look i am always scouring the newest boutiques and galleries for next seasons hottest fashions. as a discerning shopper, i insist on shopping at gerrards, where i have frequented since 1975. gerrards offers me the things in life i can not find elsewhere.
:-) ;-) 8-)
PROS: ample stock of boars head deli counter items
CONS: not open 24 hours.
For twenty years, I have explored Gerrard's excellent wine collection. Their deli is one of the very best I have visited since moving to California from Montana. The people of Redlands do not realize what a crown jewel this store is. Take it from me, someone who grew up during the 1950s and 1960s: small grocery stores are all but extinct. Today, I planned my evening's dinner by getting recipes and cooking directions from three employees in the store! My brother-in-law, who lives in Sarasota, Florida, buys wine, cheese, gourmet salami, and chilled bottles of beer every time he visits. Take it from me--this is a GREAT market.
What a great hometown market. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The produce department has the absolute best fruits and vegetables that I have ever tasted or seen. The wine selection is fantastic. They carry such a large selection from so many different wineries. I highly recommend visiting this store. You'll love it. I tell all my friends about it.
