Don't go here! It's terrible.
This place is shameful. #1 sign of a vet office that doesn't care is when the office staff inquires about your deceased animal a year later. additionally, the front desk staff is completely out of line- I was told that it was my fault that my dog had pyometra because I hadn't spayed my dog (5 years old). Guilt tripping patients to pay $2,000 in vet bills in the moment of an emergency is a low class and distasteful. When I questioned the bill, and (oops) said "this is F**Ked up," instead of explaining and itemizing the charges she threatened to throw me out. Dr. Marks worked with my last dog, and he is a good guy. Marks, get some staff that can represent you well, because you just lost a customer and I have lost all respect for any trust that we built over the past 4 years.

VERY RUDE FRONT DESK
The front desk/reception staff are HORRIBLE. These people should not be employed in any type of setting involving interaction with living beings. They are rude, insensitive, impatient, and incapable of empathy. Very terrible. If you don't like people or animals you should not be working in a vet's office. Avoid at all costs if you want to have some compassion and understanding while dealing with pet emergencies.

Trustworthy Vet
I took my cat in who had gotten an upper respiratory infection and the front desk staff, while not the greatest, was adequate. The doctor was very knowledgeable and didn't rush me at all. In fact, she almost seemed to over-explain the diagnosis, which is better than under-explaining it. The prices are fair and the medicines worked like a charm. Compared to the high-end, expensive vet I use when I'm in Las Vegas (my permanent residence), I received the same information, same medicine, and at a much cheaper rate! I would definitely recommend this vet to others if they don't mind the less-than-fancy building.

they've done a fine job with my dogs and cats
Washington Dog and Cat Hospital has provided my animals with outstanding and caring service for the past 10 years. They cured a puppy I had picked up who had parvo virus, and made sure I was able to protect my other dog from exposure during the treatment process. They remind me when vaccines and check-ups are due, and they are extremely flexible when my crowded schedule requires last-minute changes of appointment times. I live in Angelino Heights and work near this vet office, and I could definitely take my pets to more expensive places closer to my house. I choose to stay with this vet because of the quality of the services offered.

Worst Veterinarian I Have Ever Met
I took my cat to the Washington Dog & Cat Hospital in October because she had a cut in her lower back which had gotten infected. After waiting for over thirty minute the Veterinarian called me and my cat to go in for the check up, she took a short look and told me there wasn't much she could do for my cat. I insisted that she took a closer look because I believe my cat could get better with some antibiotics. The Veterinarian told me that she could clean her up and give her something for 200.00 dollars. I greed and left my cat in her hands. As I was waiting for the Veterinarian to come out with my cat I heard one of the nurses calling me, the Veterinarian came out and told me in front of everyone who was in the waiting room that my cat had maggots in her wound and I had to put her to sleep because she could not do anything for her. NOT ONLY WAS THIS UNPROFESSIONAL BUT VERY INCONSIDERATE. THIS IS SOMETHING SHE COULD HAVE TOLD ME IN PRIVATE NOT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. AFTER TELLING THE VETERINARIAN I WAS NOT INTERESTED IN PUTTING HER TO SLEEP, SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE MIGHT BE ABLE TO CLEAN MY CATS WOUND. I took my cat to a different Hospital and they clean her wound cut her hair, gave her vitamins, and antibiotics. IN ONLY TWO WEEKS MY CAT WAS FINE AGAIN. I AM SO GLAD I DID NOT LISTEN TO THE VET. FROM WASHINGTON DOG & CAT HOSPITAL.

the staff is great
I've been taking my cats to Washington Dog & Cat Hospital for five years, and I've always had a great experience. Contrary to the other posters, I've found the folks at the front desk to be friendly, helpful and accommodating. More importantly, the medical care has been excellent. One of my cats had cancer surgery there last year, and she's recovered well. This is a vet office in a poor neighborhood, and I appreciate that the staff understands that pet owners may have financial limitations, and they seem to be realistic about what you can and can't do for your pet.

Rude Custoner Service
I have been a client of Dr. Jeffrey Marks owner and chief veterinarian of Washington Dog & Pet Hospital for over ten years. I have three dogs which are his patients. On 09/15/07 I took my miniature pincher to get all his shots. The young girl at the front desk wanted me to get the dog a full check-up. I said no. She told me it was mandatory. I responded not by law. She then told me that it was their policy to give every dog a complete check up once a year. I told her that he would only receive the treatment that I requested. Her final answer was If you don't like it then go to another clinic. I said you're damn right I am. I got my dog and went to another one. I told her I would report her rude attitude to Dr, Marks and she acted as if nothing would become of it. Dr. Marks just lost three patients and a customer.

WORST PLACE EVER!!
People at front desk are very rude and have no customer service ! Techs seem to have the job just for a job, they do not seem to enjoy what they do. They were very rough with my pet. Seem like no one ever knows pricing, they want to perform all types of services when you go in for one thing and one thing only.
I had my cat recently euthanized there, she was dying from leukemia and was breathing heavy, I calmed her down before they were to put her down and asked that they not rough her up, The tech grabbed her and stretched her out and stuck the needle in. I was horrified.
Again like a fool I go there again for my dog and they end up doing things I did not ask them to do and charging me for it. I do NOT recommend them to anyone. If you're desperate maybe but never again for me.

Can't decide
We took our cat there to get blood and urine test. We called them a week later to get the results and discovered that they forgot to do the blood test! Seems really unorganized to me.
It's not a life threatening mistake but it doesnt reflect well on their hospital.
I'm a bit afraid of putting my cat under anesthesia there and see them forget what they were doing to the cat!
PROS: open weekends
CONS: unorganized, careless

Decent - you get what you pay for
Agree that the clerical staff were a bit strange/unfriendly. But the actual medical professionals were commited and thorough. We ended up paying more than expected, the visit/consultation alone was $55 before any treatments. But our beloved cat got well again, and they followed up with us later to check all was still OK. Also they consulted with us at regular intervals, answering our questions fully so we understood the pros and cons of each treatment.
PROS: Open on Sundays; pet-focused; decent aftercare.
CONS: Can pay more in total with price of each procedure/treatment.

only decent
I took my dog here for a check up because she seemed kind of bummed and itchy. Well, they seemed to think that I was the one who was kind of weird... but I do believe that dogs also have their ups and downs. Anyway, they inspected her and said she seems to be fine. So I guess my dog didn't get any treatment. But I went somewhere else after and it turned out she needed some allergy shots.

Decent
I recently took my cat here for a gum/sinus infection. The front desk staff could be better - I stood in front of them for minutes without being acknowledged. The doctors were nice, but one doctor told me my cat needed to lose weight but didn't elaborate on what measures I could take to aid this. She also recommended blood tests (which came out negative) and a dental cleaning, and all told my cat's two visits cost me $600.
They allowed me to drop my cat off in the morning for his dental cleaning and pick him up at the end of the day which was convenient - they also offered to board him overnight, if necessary.
Overall it was a decent vet experience. The cost seemed prohibitive, but I think it was mostly due to the blood testing and medication and dental work. I think a straightforward visit without all the extras is about $35, which I think is average.
PROS: nice doctors, small parking lot in back
CONS: mediocre front desk staff, doctor's somewhat rushed
