I am writing a review about Nikko's Cafe Mexican Grill, located at 408 El Camino Real in Redwood City, California 94063, telephone number (650) 599-9383. It is a small size restaurant but the taste of the food there is delicious and listening to the many stories from the owner "Nikko" you just have a wonderful time. I would walk into the restaurant and in a moment's notice, a nice and sweet bald and old gentleman would say "hello my friend, how are you, would you like to try our specials today," with a bright smile, you just cannot say no. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Breast Platter, which was topped with a tomato and pepper jack cheese, it also came with beans, rice, some fried vegetables, and fresh made flour tortillas. The taste of the chicken was good and juicy but the fried onions and vegetables made the meal stand out. Something different from other Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area is that mostly everyone uses refried pinto beans. Not at Nikko's, they use real black beans and delicious rice. I then had the opportunity to chat with the owner "Nikko" and he would tell me that he
came into the United States in 1948 as a "Bracero" working on our fields to pick cotton and vegetables and that in those days the wage they received was 48 cents a day can you believe that. I just about cried when he was telling me his story but he made it clear, he has no regrets and loves the U.S. because his entire family is here from Mexico. In conclusion, I
would like to give Mr. Nikko a wonderful review with five stars because the food and the service were wonderful and just to see his wonderful smile as he thanked every customer individually for choosing his restaurant. If ever you are in Redwood City, give Nikko's Cafe Mexican Grill a try you never know what can happen.

Pros: The ambience was nice, peaceful, and like a small restaurant in a Mexican pueblo.

Cons: Just the size of the restaurant is a little small so I do not think I will throw my wedding reception there.
