Magic Gardens Landscaping
Magic Gardens is the only pure microclimate nursery that I know of in the East Bay -- which has some extreme microclimates.
Berkeley has a cool, subtropical climate compared to areas less than 10 miles from here. The levels of humidity and temperature make quite a difference. The thing about the plants from Magic Gardens is they survive and thrive in the Berkeley Climate.
The plants may seem a bit more expensive than the greenhouse grown generic ones at Home Depot or Orchard Supply, but its worth the extra cost.
They offer some one-of-a-kind plants, and the staff are well educated and plant-savy. It's quite educational just to visit the place. Make sure you read the labels on the plants to determine which part of your garden they are the best suited for.
For a while, they had moved from Heinz St. to a place in Richmond between the freeways, next door to American soil. But from what I can tell, they are back now in their original location.
PROS: Plants are suited to the climate, Great staff.
CONS: A little more expensive, but its worth the price
