I had my puppy spayed here in April 2010. They did a poor job on stitching her up and her skin still appeared to be open. I've had five cats spayed and never seen such a poor stitching job. It looked like something a small child would do. Weeks after her stitches were removed, she had internal stitches sticking out of her surgical incision. I took her back for them to be snipped and they cut her skin during the visit.

I had her shots given to her in Arizona and called around for booster shots out here. They were the cheapest b/c we had been there before and they quoted me a lower exam price. I took her to the appointment, only to be left waiting for an hour and a half. When the vet came in w/ the shot, my dog literally sniffed it and went flying off of the table. She doesn't like this staff and can't stand this clinic. She always tries hiding from them and cowers when anyone approaches her. It's not vets in general b/c she doesn't act like that at the Arizona clinic. She licks the vet there and jumps on the office staff.

After there was mass confusion about which boosters to giver her, even though the staff in AZ had faxed them her shot records, the gave her the shots. When I checked out, I thought the price was higher than what was quoted, but I was late for an interview because of the hour and a half wait, and I had to leave.

I looked at my receipt later and they had overcharged me by $24 on the office visit. I called and spoke to the front desk and they said there was no way I was quoted that price and must have misunderstood. I wrote the price and conversation down when I was getting quotes and said I was offered a lower price b/c my dog had had an exam in the last year. She said the exam w/ the low cost spay didn't count, even though the vet thoroughly examined her and found a chipped tooth during the exam. How much thorough would they need to be than to examine every inch of my dog, including her mouth? I could have taken her to a clinic two seconds from my house for a cheaper price than I paid in the end, because I was misquoted. The employee never apologized and when I told her I wasn't happy and wouldn't be returning to their clinic again, she simply said, "Okay."

This is customer service at an all time low. They don't provide good service, the front desk staff seems to be confused, and their surgical skills obviously need improvement.

The ver who cared for our pet was extremly knowledgeable and acted promptly to save the life of our daughter's pet. The care provided was not just for our sick pet, but the vet, Dr. Al took the time to comfort my daughter who was extremely saddened by the condition of her pet. The price was fair and from what I learned after the fact, more than reasonable. I highly recommend this vet and clinic to anyone with a sick pet.

Pros: Extremely Knowledgeable Veterinarian

Cons: None

Dr. Al and the Turquoise Animal Hospital saved the life of my daughter??s gecko, ??Stripee.? About two weeks ago, ??Stripee? was listless and seemingly about to die. One side of its head was so severely swollen that it did not look like it had much time left. I was prepared to tell my daughter that ??Stripee? had vanished or had just ??gone away? and bury it in the back yard after it had died. In addition, my wife vehemently opposed my proposition of letting it go in our back yard before it died. I am not heartless, but I do not part with my money easily - especially considering the current economy (and my wife??s anger if I were to proceed with my idea of setting ??Stripee? free) which were the easiest and cheapest solutions. But my daughter??s anguish was such that I had to do something. So, I asked a friend of mine who has pets what veterinarian he uses and he referred me Dr. Al, saying he was knowledgeable, friendly, and affordable. Now, I was skeptical at first because I figured that a veterinarian is well versed in the care of mammals - dogs, cats and even horses. But geckos? I was also not prepared to nor did I want to spend a lot of money on ??Stripee.? Nevertheless, my daughter and I took ??Stripee? to the Turquoise Animal Hospital where Dr. Al examined it and diagnosed it with a severe infection ?? perhaps a sinus infection. Who knew lizards got sinus infections? He said that it the area would need to be lanced and Stripee would some medication! He took my daughter aside and explained there was a chance ??Stripee? might go to ??gecko heaven,? but he would do everything he could to help ??Stripee.? Dr. Al took great care of my daughter??s lizard. But I was truly impressed and thankful with the manner in which addressed my daughter??s sadness and worry for ??Stripee.? He recognized how badly she was feeling and to be frank, I am indebted to Dr. Al??s for his ??bedside manner? and the compassion he showed my daughter. Many physicians could learn a thing from him. After Dr. Al treated ??Stripee,? he gave us detailed instructions its care and told us to call him if we had any questions or concerns. On the way home after ??Stripee??s? treatment, my daughter was comforted and no longer sad. She said, ??don??t worry, daddy, Stripee is going to get better, I know because Dr. Al is awesome.? Although I agreed with my daughter that Dr. Al is indeed ??awesome,? my reason for believing so was not just his care ??Stripee? and my daughter received, but the final bill I was presented for the lizard??s exam, surgical procedure and medication. The charges were a little less than even what were estimated before I approved treatment. Today, ??Stripee? is healthy and most importantly, my daughter is happy. Dr. Al is an extremely nice, talented, and compassionate veterinarian. He took as much care in treating my daughter??s pet as he did in dealing with her sadness. And most importantly to me, the final bill was fair and inexpensive. I highly recommend Dr. Al to anyone reading this, especially a parent with a distraught child and sick pet! A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Al and Turquoise Animal Hospital!

I just had to take my cat here and he has to spend the night but they are awesome. Everyone there is very happy, caring and experienced. The Vets are great people who i can tell love their work. My cat was treated as an individual there and not just another patient which i liked a lot. The environment is safe, clean and happy. They tell you about all the charges and procedures beforehand and let you make an educated decision about your cats health. No suprise charges or false procedures. I know my cat is getting lots of love and great treatment. I might have trouble getting him to leave after all those great people giving him love and attention. Ill be going there from now on.

Have to agree. They are just overpriced and keep trying to sell you tests and more tests that your pet does not need.I'll be taking my dogs to someone who cares and not someone who is in the business to rip you off

The care is very good, but I've found some of the prices, particularly spaying, are double the prices found at comparable vets. This was the case even when the services were exactly the same (overnight stay following the surgery, pain meds, collar, etc.). Vet and staff are very professional and knowledgeable.

My dog is taken care of by Dr. AL he is very thorough and knowledgeable at what he does. I love that they give you the prices for everything up front so your not surprised about anything. I felt like I was asking so many questions during my visit but he never made me feel rushed. If you have a special pet that needs care stop by and make an appointment with Dr Atkinson at Turquoise Animal Hospital.

This is to clear up any confusion about Feline Leukemia Vaccines mentioned on a comment of 3-19-08
All cats should be tested for both feline leukemia as well as feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Then (if the test is negative), ALL kittens should receive a series of two vaccines for leukemia -- then a booster one year later. If the cat is 100% indoor then it receives no more leukemia vaccines.
If a cat is to be outdoor, then they should also be vaccinated against FIV. Outdoor cats should be vaccinated yearly for both leukemia and FIV.
These recommendations are NOT just our recommendations, but published 11/07 by the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP http://www.aafponline.org). In addition, we never insist that anyone receive any treatment, test or vaccine they do not want. We do make great effort to inform all pet owners of what is recommended for their pets, explain why and let owners make their own decision. And, yes, all recommendations are tailored to the needs of each individual pet. There is never any pressure.
We are sorry your experience at our hospital did not meet your expectations, and these type issues are generally better and more quickly resolved with a call to our hospital rather than an anonymous posting. You might want to review what vaccines you received and compare to the current recommendations by the feline specialists of the AAFP.

Over priced and they try to sell you stuff you don't need. For example, my kitten will never be outside and doesn't need a leukemia vaccine, but the doctor and staff insisted on it. I waited and spoke with 5 other vets all agreed that my kitten wouldn't need it. The staff is generally nice, but the place is way over priced and too much into selling everything rather then catering to you individual pets needs.

I was not very happy with the Vet's recomendation for my dog. I brought him in with vomiting and lithargic conditions. The Vet suggeted a $1,000 worth of test to find the problem. I felt like I was being sold things I didn't want right from the begining. Such as Vaccines that I didn't really want due to my pets lithargic condition. We left with a $50+ exam fee and no results. We took our pet to Bay Park Pet Clinic who suggested an Xray and immeadiatly found the problem was a Chew Treat (never give a chew treat to your dog) stuck in his lower intestine. He completed a surgery and follow up all for $1022.00. Who knows what this Vet would have ended up costing me or worse created a bill that would have been to much for me to pay and I would have had to put my pet down.

I highly recommend this vet. Dr. Atkinson and his staff saved my dog's life. Her stomach had twisted (just like in the book Marley & Me). They operated two years ago and she has been healthy ever since. The staff is really sweet and the prices are reasonable.

They got our cat in right away. The staff was fantastic; they were very caring, gentle and understanding. They did NOT try to sell us things we didn??t need, only informed us as to what was available. Their pricing is very reasonable. We were shocked at how low the bill was. Before we went in we had seen three reviews; two great and one poor review. We can only say the person who wrote the poor review must have been thinking of another place, or been a very bitter person. We highly recommend this place and will definitely go back.

I take my dog, and all of my cats, to this hospital. On two occasions, the trips were emergency ones, and Dr. Atkinson saved the lives of my pets. The staff and vet(s) are caring, friendly, and informative. Since one of my cats needed to stay in the facilities quite a while after a complicated surgery, I was allowed into the back areas to visit with her, and found all these areas immaculate, and all animals there well cared for. I'm especially grateful that there are people who like and appreciate their patients/clients, and work so tirelessly for them.

I have taken my dogs to this animal hospital for the past four years...they are very friendly and take very good care of the pets. Their prices are reasonable and the facility is nice. The doctor is very caring and seems genuinely insterested in helping your animal out. He's friendly and down-to-earth. I have taken my dogs here for checkups, shots and even several surgeries... I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this vet.
