Good Stuff
Whenever I have friends or family visiting I always bring them to this restaurant. The service is great and the food is yummy. It is expensive, though. The brunch is good too.

Excellent, but expensive
The first time I ate here was for Valentine's Day. Probably not the best time to come -- the meal ended up costing a fortune, which was expected on that day, but it was still a bit too much. The food was great -- probably the first time i've ever had foie gras (sp?), and it was delicious! The other dishes were great too, but for that much money? I don't think any food should cost that much. Anyways, friends tell me that they have a great Sunday Brunch (like the Ritz Carlton Huntington), but of course, it may be on the expensive side.

My Favorite Dining Experience
If you like French-Japanese food - you have to try Maison Akira at least once in your lifetime. I had a prix fixe (around $50 or $60) and every morsel of food was an absolute conversation piece. Also, Chef Akira's legendary miso marinated sea bass is quite a treat. The food was wonderful, and the service was impeccable. Best of all, you can wear you jeans and you won't fee under dressed!
PROS: great food - beautiful ambiance
CONS: none

A wonderful evening! July 22 was our third visit and as enjoyable as the previous two. Service was friendly and efficient. We had a taste of the house smoked Atlantic salmon, which was delicious. I had two specials, the lobster salad with a touch ofcaviar and the New York steak dabbed with roquefort cheese. Monique had the special foie gras appetizer and the Baby Rack of Lamb. Our entrees were cooked to perfection with sauces that compliment, not overwhelm. We added a glass of Merlot to round out a perfect meal. - eem

Intimate w/ great food and service
My husband took me here for my birthday. First off, the hostess was so sweet. She showed us to a really nice table. Next, our server came to our table and was very informative and helpful. We ordered both tasting menus, I had the Menu Rabelais and he had Menu Epicurean. We both had the wine pairing as well. The food that followed for both of us was exquiste. It was the best foi gras; it was nicely seared a bit for that excellent sweet toasted taste. The sashimi was sweet, succulent, and very fresh. Our main courses was equally impressive. I had bass and he had the kobe. Dessert was good, light. The wine pairings were exceptional, esp.for Epicurean. They had this wine for the sashimi, it tasted like oysters (the wine, not the fish!!); very interesting. Overall, the experience was wonderful.
Pros: Food, wine, dessert, service

Amazing
Been a few times now and I would say this is one of the best restaurants in Pasadena and anywhere. Everything is superb. Just look at Mr. Akira's credentials - wouldn't expect anything less then the best and he delivers. I'm a seafood eater and I've had the best sea bass of my life here. You're not just ordering food here, you're ordering art. The price can be high, but anything comparable will be even more (i.e., places in Beverly Hills and the west side).
Pros: everything
