My children currently attend First Lutheran Preschool and I could not believe what I read in Mabry M.'s review. I have known the director for years and she goes out of her way to make sure that the children are well cared for and that the parents concerns are always taken seriously. The staff consists of eleven teachers, six of them have been with the preschool for between 11 and 18 years, they are very dedicated. The director has 24 years experience in the field as well. My son is in the two year old classroom and his teacher has always talked pleasantly to me and the other children. She makes sure to speak to or write to the parents of her children everyday in the classroom communication log. Communication logs are used in all the classrooms. The children enjoy a variety of activities that enhance social and physical skills. They play, paint, color, sing and attend chapel. They have three playgrounds and a large gym for poor weather conditions and variety. They celebrate birthdays on occasion with treats but the snacks are very healthy, usually fruit and crackers. First Lutheran is a very loving and caring facility and the staff and director are there for the children .. It takes a special person to work with children as the rewards are usually a hug and a thank you, preschool teachers do not make much for a living. Caring for children takes a lot of patience and training and most of the staff are involved in continuing their education. I would highly recommend First Lutheran Preschool.

I yanked my child out of this school shortly after beginning, so please know my opinion is from a short-lived experience there. My child was day-time potty trained and came home having had 2-3 accidents per day. The overall feel of the 2-3 year old class was "chaos" and "disorganized." I think they were too busy to get my child to the toilet, which just isn't right. Also, one of the new two-year old teachers was short-tempered and said something very disturbing in my and my child's presence. I couldn't believe it. She seemed to need a job, but didn't act as though she wanted to be there...she seemed like she was faking it and that made me very uncomfortable. When I brought it up to the Director, she asked that I give it some time and they would work with her on it. However, after thinking about it for quite some time, I realized I couldn't allow my child to be exposed to this teacher any longer. Why was I paying to send my child to a preschool, while this teacher was trying to get her act together? There were a couple other things that bothered me too. On occasion they served unhealthy snacks. For instance, they put green food dye in the apple juice and called it "Shrek juice" and served chocolate chip cookies. The other annoying thing is that they frequently painted the children's faces. While fun for the kids, it became quite the pain for me. I would come to pick my child up and their face would be entirely painted as a tiger and we would be going to run errands or out to dinner. It also took the paint a couple of days to completely wash off. I didn't feel things were going to be resolved in a timely manner, so I pulled my child from the program. It could be a great preschool, but I didn't get the feeling that the Director was truly in charge. It didn't seem that her number one priority was the kids, but rather her staff.
Don't get me wrong; I don't think anyone has the wrong intentions....their program (especially for the 2-3 year old class) needs work.
