We went to Dr. Lee over 18 years ago. From shots, to sterilization, to our cat getting hit by a car. He was always fair and understood our financial situation and modified care. Our cat lived to be 18 years old!

Dr Lee is amazing, the care and follow up provided was a welcome change from our previous experiences. Dr Lee even makes the follow up calls himself, it's great to know that he takes such pride in what he does and has a genuine concern for

Dr. Lee takes takes great care of our pets. He is kind and caring. He even saw our 2 puppies that we rescued from the shelter for free for their first exam. I would definitely recommend Dr. Lee to my friends!

Overall, this is the best vet I have ever taken my dog to and if I lived closer he would no doubt be Harvey's vet. Dr. Lee and his staff are the friendliest and the most knowledgeable I have come by.

I have been using Dr. Lee for 5 years. I am not sure what the 1 star reviews are all about. Dr. Lee always gives us treatment options. Usually three diffrent ways to get to the result. Because as he will say, some people are on a budget. Some people treat there pets like family, and some people don't. He has done laser eye surgery for cherry eyes on both of my English Bulldogs, and there eyes have been perfect ever sence. In the 5 years I have been going, I have never felt ripped off or mistreated. Me and my wife jokingly refer to Dr. Lee as the Mad scientist, but he really is an amazing vet.

Dr Lee is a wonderful vet. He takes time to explain what is the problem our pet was experiencing recently. His front desk personal are great. We are very satisfied with the care and treatment Rusty received.

Love this place! Took my dog in because she has an ear infection and everyone was sooo nice and friendly. They took great care of her and only charged me for what she truly needed. Very reasonable prices. Then, to my surprise, the vet called a week later to follow up!

Dr. Lee took the time to thoroughly examine my dog, drew pictures to help with explanation & understanding, and gave me options for treatment, with out judging. While I thought her tumor was most important, Dr. Lee explained that a few of her teeth were possibly infected, more important than her tumor, which was most likely benign & not a serious problem except for her chewing on it. Her ear infection was also a big problem, and he showed me with a scope that I could see, so I knew it was real, and not being exaggerated.\r\nI'm a nurse, and while I understood completely what he was explaining, I could tell see how helpful this would be for others that are not medical.

The facility was very clean and the people were nice. I brought in my Rat terrier mix to have his double cherry eye lasered. It's really the only option that seemed like a good idea. He explained it to me that they make a pocket in the protruding gland, clamp the interior excess tissue, then remove that interior part - keeping most of the tear producing tissue intact.\nWhen I picked him up in the afternoon he was perfectly fine, with normal looking eyes! They sent him home with antibiotics and eye ointment. All of this for a little over 500 dollars. You really can't beat that.

I have to admit, the other reviews here can raise some concern, but I can only review based on my own experience. My little girl Penelope came down with cherry eye, a condition in which the some gland, I believe the tear producing gland, becomes swollen and protrudes from the eye socket. When we went home to research the subject, we found that there was one other alternative, a laser procedure which removes part of the gland, therefore returning it to normal size and then sewin' it up so it stays put. Better yet, this procedure was much more affordable then the ones that don't work. Sound to good to be true? Well, it's not. \n\nBesides being affordable and effective, Dr Lee was pretty awesome. He understood that we were concerned, explained the entire procedure, it's risks, and it's costs up front. We dropped her off early in the morning and picked her up that afternoon. She stayed there longer than she had to because we were at work, and we weren't charged for the stay. The rest of the staff were friendly and ready to answer any questions we had. Dr Lee even called us two days later to check on Penny-Peanut. It was pretty cool.

I did my research and brought my 8 yr old Lhasa to get his laser surgery done for the cherry eye. Dr. Lee was awesome! He got his teeth cleaned, a teeth pulled, ear flush, annual shots, body check and the surgery with medication for under $1K. My lhasa recovered within a few days and the cherry eye problem is gone! \r\n\r\nI have to say that the clinic itself is not fancy like some vets I've been to that charges $80 just for a visit, but it is well kept and pretty clean for the reasonable amount that Dr. Lee's clinic offer. \r\n\r\nOverall, one of the best vet I've found and am glad I took my lhasa there for his surgery!

This vet is right down the street from my house...Weve been taking my little man (Lover, a miniature pinscher) here for at least 4 years now...Ive brought him here for everything from a tick (it was disgusting) to an ear infection to a normal check up. The receptionists are generally helpful and Ive never questioned the Dr.'s recommendations but Ive also never felt like they are 100% concerned interested in me as a person and my dog. I really just feel like a plain and simple customer. But so far, everything my dog has been in there for has been taken care of so I really cant complain. That little man means the world to me so as long as he is still wagging his stub of a tail and jumping around, Im happy.\r\n\r\nSide note: If you decide to check this place out, consider yourself warned about the entrance to the parking lot of the little strip mall its in. If you are driving west from santee, it will be easy to just pull into the driveway but if you are coming from any other direction you need to park in an adjacent parking lot (they are right next to eachother, but you cant drive through these two parking lots) and walk over or do what I normally do and forget about it everytime, remember at the last min and have to drive all the way down the road and make a u-turn. Its irritating

Thank you for taking such good care of Charlie and us. You were always there whenever Charlie needed a check up and a gentle pat. You were always there with extra TLC for all of us. Your kindness and caring ways were of great comfort to us last week when we had to send Charlie off to ""The Rainbow Bridge."" That was a tough choice (one we all hate to make) Thank you for being there to comfort and guide us. Hopefully there will be another ""Fur person"" in our life to love and bring to you for check ups, gentle pats and doggy treats from the counter.

It's really slipped the past year or two. We have had one problem after another in terms of records not updated, wrong medication administered and a general deterioration in terms of organization. We have also boarded our dogs and they often came back dirty and flea ridden. When one of them got sick while boarding no medical care was given nor do I think it was noticed. I mentioned my concern to the miss matched Asian receptionist who was frazzled by my presence, rude and ignored me. Instead of showing concern she insisted I needed to pay for a visit so they could tell me how their hospital got my dog sick (none of this was noticed the 5 days he stayed there?!?!?!). Looking at the condition and filth of the boarding facility and filth of my once clean dog I came to the conclusion that the neglect of my dog and unsanitary conditions he stayed in resulted in him getting sick. To add insult to my dogs injury this woman who was cold, rude, uncaring, ignored my complaints then led me to a room where I had no idea what was going on and sat for over 30 minutes to see the doctor for an illness his hospital gave my dog. I assumed I would not be charged for this nor did the doctor tell me what he was doing (I think he was in a rush to eat lunch) but at the end ?little missy? gave me a twisted smile and crocked $157.50. I reluctantly paid and had to ask her over 4x for a written copy of what was done to warrant these ridiculous charges!!! Do not board your pets here. When I picked up my dog he developed a cough, was shaking, scared and had filth and dirt on every leg, urine caked on the tops of his hind legs and his elbows are raw and swollen from where he was clearly not given a blanket to sleep on and instead had to sleep on the concrete floor. He looks like he has not been fed in 4 days and drank 3 bowls of water when we got home. I felt bad for his fellow boarding friends stuck in small unsanitary cages, they did not look happy. Be kind to your little friend and GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

I don?t know what kind of problem ThiP 123 has with Dr Lee but the only thing that I could think of is that he must have had a very bad dream. Anyway my wife and I have been to many different vets over the many years that we have owned animals (dogs mostly) and we finally have found a GREAT vet ?Dr Lee?. He is very fair, doesn?t try to gouge you, gives you several options for the treatment and tells you like it is. We are very glad that my wife?s cousin referred Dr Lee to us and of course we always pass on a referral whenever we can. Thank You Dr Lee. MJ & Ginny, San Diego.

Pros: very honest

Cons: None at all

I have been taking both my dogs to Dr. Lee for about 6 years. I have never had a problem and I find that his prices are very reasonable compared other vet clinics. My son did have a problem with Dr. Lee and his Pit Bull. He does not take him there anymore. I love my pets and have to take my one of my dachshunds there on a regular visits because of allergies. To me he has been fair and reasonable. As far as the waiting room, people get over it, this is a vet office not a human hospital.

Dr.Lee is a liar!!!!!!!\r\n\r\n\r\nThis doctor is horrible, he has absolutely no sensitivity, no compassion, and made the whole feeling of putting down my cat down harder due to his incredible insincerity and almost cruelty toward my animal and myself, harder than simply having to deal with having to end my cat's life. The whole thing was rushed, the procedure was not explained to me, I had no privacy with in a room with closed doors, he blamed his front end staff for not explaining the procedure, he did not wait for me to be present even though I was asked 3X and said I wanted to be present. Once I discoverd my cat was already gone I attempted to ask questions and he said he had to do something first, upon his return to the room I questioned him and he had nothing to say and proceeded to prod at my dead cat in front of me, I was horrified.\r\n\r\nI would never go to this doctor again. I think more about how much he made my experience even harder than the fact that I lost my cat forever. This man should not work with people and their pets.\r\n

Aside from the fact that this place is close to where I live, I was sold on taking my chihuahua to Dr. Lee when I learned he has two chihuahuas of his own & is very knowledgeable about the breed. I first I wasn't impressed with his "bedside" manner, but since have changed my opinion. My little one got bit by a spider one day and he was out to lunch with friends. His staff called because my dogs face was swelling and in danger of putting her into shock. He cut his lunch short to rush back to the office where he was waiting by the time I got there. That's the kind of service you don't forget.

If you care about your pet, please, please, please do not take them here. First off, I was quoted something entirely different on the phone than what I had to actually pay. I took my dog to Dr. Lee for a cherry eye procedure and now my baby girl has permanent eye damage. She was diagnosed with Dry Eye by a different vet and now has to have eye drops administered several times a day... for the rest of her life. When I initially noticed that puss was oozing out her her eye and how she tried to keep it shut all the time, I made an appt. to see Dr. Lee to take a look at it and he tried to charge me for that visit. He also lied about it being his fault and tried to convince me that she already had other issues with her eye when he initially examined her, this is absolutely false. And to prove to me that she didn't have dry eye, he cheated on her test. He was only suppose to leave the test strip in her eye for 30 seconds but it was closer to a minute. The test strip is suppose to gauge how much tear production there was. So in a nut shell, he is a cheat, a liar and a very, very bad man. Again, if you care about your pets, please, please go somewhere else.

I was referred to Dr. Lee, through the Spaniel Rescue association and am grateful to them, as Dr. Lee charges $185.00 for the surgery vs. $1000, through my regular vet.

The total was about $500, as he also did the ear flush...Hmmmm, Lucy, looks good as new and no more antibiotics, to keep the infection away.
I would definitely recommend him for cherry eye surgery. Lucy had almost NO recovery time. I was given an antibiotic salve for her eye but she hardly needed it.

(I just read the other reviews)
Yes, the scale was in the waiting room, however, I didn't have a problem with that, as my dogs (cockers) have stepped on dirtier things and I was the only person there, so there wasn't any additional stress. It would be nice if they had better seating in the waiting room though. They have two, yes two, little seats. You know, the kind that have doilies on them and are only for show in an old home, with antiques. They didn't appear to be valuable antiques, just non-functional.
My dogs sometimes like to sit with me, at the vet, but it isn't possible here. The room was moderately clean, not sanitized but acceptable for a vet (in that area).
I agree, that the most appealing thing about this visit, is Janine (?), the receptionist. She is very friendly and helpful but only works part-time.
ok, thats enough.

My 9 month old English Bulldog went into surgery for her cherry eye this morning with Dr. Lee. Everything went great! Janine was the person I set the appt. with and she was so helpful and nice. She really made me feel like she cared and I appreciated how comfortable she made me feel. Bodhi (my bulldog) got brought in at 11am and was set for surgery. Dr. Lee was educated and helpful with all our questions. He also found a foxtail (a type of grass) is Bodhi's ear canal. He agreed to do an ear flush while she was under for the cherry eye procedure. She was ready to pick up by 1:30 pm and looked as good as new!! Her eye looked like she had never had cherry eye! I was so happy I could've cried:) My little Bulldog, pretty as could be. I'm so grateful to Dr. Lee and his staff, they did a great job. And best of all, it was only $400 for everything!!

I had only been there once before with my dog who had an allergic reaction. They got her in right away and took care of her swelling. The entire staff was sweet and understanding. When I adopted my new pup, I called to make an appointment. They had an appointment available within 20 minutes of my phone call. Dr. Lee was great and he explained everything about my new rescue.
I would recommend Mission Gorge Animal Hospital to my friends and family.

I stumbled across this review site and was suprised at what negative comments I read about Mission Gorge Animal Hospital. I have to disagree with the comments. Lets get this straight now. My pets are part of my family. I wouldn't just take them anywhere. I've been taking my dog and cat to Dr Lee now for 10 years. The girls in the office are great. I've even boarded my animals here. When I need to take my pets in for an ailment. Dr Lee always gives 3 options of treatment. From a more most costly treatment to what you can do at home care. He's not trying to take you for $$. He's always given the correct diagnosis. Other members of my family have Dr Lee as their family vet also. Many of my friends I've referred go here too. It's not a fancy place but the care and treatment are what I come for.

I called today to see when I could get my cat in to see Dr. Lee and because it is a holiday weekend they will be closed early tomorrow and will not open again until Monday. They told me to bring her in right away and they stayed open late so I could get my cat in. I really appreciated that and would recommend anyone bring their pets there, they are very nice and want the best for your pets. THANKS ALL!!

I read poor reviews on both this site and another, but they said they'd take my dog in on a moment's notice for a bordatella vaccination on a Saturday morning. The waiting room WAS sanitary, the staff WAS friendly, and since I had a nice experience, I actually took the time to ask Cynthia if she was aware of some of the negative comments posted.\r\n\r\nShe assured me that she was, and she takes those comments very seriously. Several of the comments are quite dated now, and she was appreciative of me bringing the conversation up. I didn't need to meet an actual vetrinarian so I cannot comment on their courtesy or professionalism, but apparently the arrival of Dr. Jacobs in addition to Dr. Lee has yielded improvement in all areas of the practice. Previous posts suggested that people wait a long time, and patients were rushed through. It would appear that Dr. Lee had a huge workload that is now better managed with the addition of a new doc in the practice. \r\n\r\nI'd definitely give them a try, and I'm glad that I did.

The one thing I love about this animal hospital is that the people care. When I went there the 2 girls working (misha, and jeanene) made me feel so comfortable. You could tell that they were there to help and that they cared. My only complaint is Dr. Lees wife. She is hard to understand, tries to push you out, and only cares about the money. It is the staff that makes this hospital. Dr. Lee would have a better practice is she never came in the hospital. When you go just make sure Mrs. Lee is not working and ask for the girls!!

Just like many others, I thought Dr. Lee was a very kind, well respected man who knew what he was doing. Untill, that is, my cat developed a sore on the roof of her mouth. When the sore was small, but hurting my cat very much, I took her to see Dr. Lee. He said, "it is probably nothing," and gave her antibiotics, a shot, and something else (sorry for the lack of memory.) None of this helped, the sore continued to worsen, and my cat was unable to eat and was constantly scratching at her face and gagging. I called Dr. Lee and told him the meds didn't work, and he told me to force feed her baby food, then bring her back if she wasn't getting better. She didn't get better. I brought her back a second time, and Dr. Lee perscribed her the SAME medicine that I told him didn't work. Mind you, both times it was over $200. He claimed that he didn't have any record of her visiting the first time. Turns out, he had all of her information in the folder with my dog, and didn't believe me when I told him that my cat's prescriptions were listed under my DOG'S name on the bottle! I told him I would not pay for the same meds, and that I wanted blood work done. He said it was probably pointless, and pricey, because he knew that it wasn't anything too harmfull. I requested blood work anyway. A couple days later I got a call from him saying the blood work was all negative, and to continue her on the SAME meds. She only got worse. She began having seziers on a daily basis, wetting the bed, and stopped eating. I was furious. I finally took her to a feline specialist a few days ago who right away diagnosed her with oral cancer. He said that it was so bad, that it had eaten through the roof of her mouth all the way into her naval cavity. When she eats, she constantly sneezes because the food goes into her nose. He said he couldn't believe our vet didn't notice this, and said it was impossible for it not to have shown up in the blood work. He told me that if it was caught in the beginning stages (when we brought her to Dr. Lee the first time) they could have operated and removed the sore and she would be cancer free. He told me that it is too extreme, and that operating would only leave her horribly disfigured, and she would have to eat from a tube for the rest of her life. When I found this out, all I could do was cry...then get angry...then cry some more. How could a DOCTOR not see this??? I hear from people how wonderful and consistant he is, but now my cat will have to be put down because of HIS carelessness. I am very close to filing a lawsuit against him. I don't believe he even tested my cat for cancer!!! I will never give him business again for my dog, or any of my families pets again, and I ask that you do the same.

I think that Dr. Lee has been extremely helpful and thorough with all of my pets. I have recommended him to several people and they too really like Mission Gorge Animal Hospital.. I would rather have a personable staff and a professional doctor, who always gives me a follow up call, than an ultra modern waiting room (that I would pay for with my bill). I have taken six of my animals to him and wouldn't go to anyone else.

I disagree with the comments on this board. Mission Gorge Vet might not offer the most modern set up, but Dr. Lee is a very conscientious, thorough vet. I used Kensington Vet for several years - their prices were extremely high and they were always opting for the very costly (often holistic) treatments. On the contrary, Dr. Lee is much more affordable (and he follows up after every appointment.) Over the last couple of years he has seen my dogs and my cats - his diagnosis has always been correct and the animals have always received very good treatment. He might not have the warmest bedside manner, and if you're looking for someone to eww and aww over your pet then perhaps he isn't for you, but if you want trustworthy, affordable and thorough care I strongly recommend this vet.

As I only got as far as the waiting room, my review is slightly limited in scope.

The waiting room itself was unappealing, to say the least. It was dirty and in need of some refurbishing. I also didn't appreciate the scale in the waiting room with dogs. There's no way I'd have placed my kitten on it. I waited 30 minutes before realizing that my appointment which was scheduled for 4pm wasn't going to take place until well after 5pm because of the backlog of patients.

I did see the vet for a second when he chose a kitten from one of his patients, but he seemed completely uninterested in what was now his own cat, having the receptionists pick him out, hold him and name him. Being that uncaring towards his own pet left me with a very bad impression.

Overall: Rundown, overbooked, uncaring, and not particularly cat-friendly. I won't ever go back there.

Edit: I think people are only reading one line of this review. I don't care about the waiting room condition, so let's stop harping on that.

What I care about is the wait time. Has anyone here heard of actually using their appointment calendar? If you're running a place and you KNOW you aren't going to get to your patients for over an hour past their appointment time, call and reschedule them. Or tell them when they sign in. The fact that I waited 40 minutes before asking about the wait and was then asked if I would like to reschedule is completely inane and rude. Nothing like assuming I have nothing better to do than sit in a dirty room while my kitten is stressed out because she's surrounded by dogs.

If you want a cheap place to take your animals and you don't mind the fact that they're incompetent at scheduling and the vet is completely cold, that's your choice. Personally, I'd just go a block further to Friars Animal Hospital where I know the staff is caring and they understand how to manage their appointments.

The people posting reviews are way too critical!!! Last time I was there, it was about a month ago. And the waiting room was full of people waiting with their animals. I guess these people don't share the same opinion as others posting here, obviously.
Dr. Lee and the Mission Gorge Vet Hospital has cared for our family pets for about 20 years now and we have no reason to change. I see others writing about the cleanliness and condition of the facility, seems to be a bit over critical to me. Nobody in my family has ever complained about this and we have taken a lot of pets there. As for the sales pitches for insurance, that has never happened to me. That sounds more like Banfield to me. I gathered up my puppy and returned to Dr. Lee/Mission Gorge Vet, because Banfield did nothing but pitch insurance, followed by an initial exam of our puppy that was far less thorough than Dr. Lee. Dr Lee gave our puppy an excellent initial exam. If you need a qualified vet for your family pet, see Dr. Lee at Mission Gorge Vet. If you want a insurance sales pitch, go to Banfield. You will need insurance for their high priced service. Dr. Lee will not break your budget and, the staff is quite friendly as well.

The people posting reviews are way too critical!!! Last time I was there, it was about a month ago. And the waiting room was full of people waiting with their animals. I guess these people don't share the same opinion as others posting here, obviously.

I should have walked out as soon as I saw the condition of the examination room: the floor hadn't been swept, the sink was full of hair, etc. I brought two cats for their annual exam. The lobby had no place to put the cats' carriers while waiting, and the only scale for weighing them is right in the lobby, where large dogs are constantly entering. You can imagine the stress on the cat trying to get it to stay on the scale amid all of the commotion. The vet himself spent less than 1 minute examining each animal. I had to ask him to look at their teeth -- he didnt bother even doing that. I asked about an issue with one of the cats having poor digestion, and got no answer, or even any discussion of what the problem might be. He just left, never having answered any of my questions. I will never go back there again. Not recommended.

I wasn't too impressed with this Mission Gorge Animal Hospital. My husband suggested we take our dog there because it was close to our house. The customer service was okay, the doctor was nice but there wasn't anything exceptional about the service. It was almost like everything was about money, insurance and business and the only person I felt truly compassionate was the receptionist.
