Massive slices of roast beef and an old-fashioned atmosphere have made this historic restaurant a meat-lover's mecca.

House of Prime Rib sprawls over five rooms with comfy banquets, spacious tables, and fireplaces. There are two fresh fish dishes on the menu but we have been known for fine prime rib since 1949.
We serve only USDA Prime beef, the top two percent of all beef marketed. Although this incurs additional expense, our USDA Eastern corn-fed beef, aged for 21 days, is the most tender, juicy and flavorful beef available.
The Scene With its wingback chairs, thick carpets, brass-studded leather banquettes, wood paneling and fireplaces, the House of Prime Rib looks like a British country manor. Especially popular for special occasions, the restaurant has multiple dining rooms that are almost always crowded, usually with a family-oriented clientele that makes the trek from all over the city and greater Bay Area.
The Food The name says it all. Although the menu offers a variety of traditional meat-and-potatoes dishes, the real focus is prime rib. The warm, juicy roasts are served tableside--showmanship is big here--from large aluminum carts that are wheeled continuously through the dining room. Entrees come with mashed or baked potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, horseradish and salad. Like the meat, salads are served tableside, with the greens and dressing tossed together in a spinning chilled bowl. A seafood entree is also available, varying each night according to season.
Love the House of Prime Rib. Definitely a go to place for special occasions and with out of town visitors. Had my usual - the English cut - and was not disappointed. First time I have ever made it to desert, but that was also excellent. Rather expensive, but worth it.

This place had a great prime rib but it appeared as if the staff was just a little to busy checking their cell phones to check to see if we needed any more wine. I wage much of my decision on the service being poor and not so much on quality of food.

Great San Francisco steak house. If you have visitors in town and want to treat them to something special this is your place. The wine list isn't bad either.

My family celebrates important life events in this place, so obviously I am a fan. The servings are huge, and you can always ask for seconds. My husband always takes advantage of this, and he comes out filled up and happy! I often spot quite a few 49er players here... seems like they get a good source of protein at this place!

My family and I have been going to House of Prime Rib for special occasions for years! House of Prime Rib serves some of the most delicious and tender prime rib you will find. Not only do you get a slice of prime rib, but if you are still hungry, you can get multiple slices! The price is around $30+ a head and do not go here if you are not planning on eating the prime rib because the other dishes are not quite that good. The salad is amazing and they mix it right in front of your party. The creamed spinach is also very creamy and tasty! I recommend trying the bread with a little of the table salt they provide. Parking around here is hard to find so don't expect to find one right away. Also, I would say make reservations if you can because this place is always busy.

The only reason you would go here is for the prime rib. Tender, juicy, deliciously good! My first time here was the day before Father's day. A special treat for my husband, our kids and closest friends. Although the service and the prime rib were excellent I felt that they skimped on the Yorkshire Pudding. That was a bit of a disappointment to me. Instead of the whole Yorkshire Pudding they cut it up in smaller portions and split it between the 7 of us. I have family that come to this restaurant often and they told me that they have always been served the whole pudding. The place is quite crowded but that can't be helped due to the popularity of the place. Prices are high but remember you get what you pay for minus the Yorkshire Pudding. All in all it was good. Get the 4:30 reservation if you want a chance at parking otherwise you'll have to pay extra for the valet.
PROS: delicious food
CONS: expensive, crowded

House of Prime Rib (HOPR)is a great steak joint. The decor is old world streak house, and they actually carve the prime rib right at the table! I went with six girls and we were treated like royalty. We each split the Prime Rib which came with a huge loaded Backed Potato, amazing creamed spinach, a Salad, and cornbread. we could barely walk out of the place! would definitely classify HOPR as a splurge (avg entree ~ $30) but if you can split it's very reasonable.
PROS: service, huge portions, great steak
CONS: expensive

Old-school deliciousness!

This is one of our favorite restaurants in the city. Old-school charm, lush red leather banquettes, professional well-dressed waiters, a sweetheart of a maitre'd, and a great bar. The prime rib is succulent and done to a turn, just how you like it (they even offer yorkshire pudding, something you just can't find anymore)! Portions are large and the service is impeccable. We have our holiday dinner here with friends every year, and invariably everyone loves this place. It's expensive, but for special occasions you can't beat it.
Highly recommended.
The best Prime Rib in town. They have excellent service and I have always had an enjoyable experience. I highly recommed to anyone who loves prime rib!
This place hasn't changed since 1949. Dark style steak house like mood. Old red seats, fix ens that make you say, I remember eating that when I was a steak houses 20 years ago. The creamed spinach, yum. Lots of bacon flavor, the mash with the extras yum, wine selection is reasonable with the more expensive topping off around $110. The star of the show is the prime rib. Melt in your mouth goodness. Dinner for 4 was a bit over $300. A bit expensive but I guess for SFO not too bad. I'm impressed they don't serve french frys, even for kids.
Enjoy!
Pros: Prime Rib in a classic environment Cons: Do the valet. Shady part of town at night.
