Dear Karla J.:

It's worth another visit to Papillon. 2008 has been a capital infrastructure investment year for Papillon. I don't know specifically what you saw as run-down; however, I can tell you that in this year the school has invested in beautiful, industrial awnings over the two major outdoor play areas, a new jungle gym, new instructional kitchen and living spaces in the 2 yr old and up classrooms, new outdoor recreational houses and play structures, new outdoor picnic tables for the kids, a closed-network classroom monitoring video system, a new, safer (single frame vs. double frame) front doorway, and a host of new and replacement instructional tools. These are just the visible investments.

Setting aside the tangible 'facilities' that make up the school, I offer one father's view of the arguably more critical intangible part of Papillon.

My son, 5, graduating this year, started at age six months as did my 3 year old daughter. Both love the school, students, and teachers; and both have benefited from the strong-willed, loving, gifted, penta-lingual, dramatically dressed wonder-woman, Corine Kaddouz, who 'raises' the school's 70 kids a year with as much and more love and care than even we hoped for starting five short years ago.

Corine is more than a pre-school director. She is a teacher of parents, counselor to the newly fathering and mothering, shoulder for those who need it, and adviser for all who can use the tips learned during more than a decade of six age-rooms of children growing from infants to youngsters, all emotionally and intellectually prepared for any elementary school.

Went on a tour there and I was not impressed. I have been to several schools and this building was very old and not maintained. The outside area seemed unsafe to me because it was so cluttered it didn't seem like there was any room for the children. Also the bathroom floors are filthy and the children don't wear shoes at that school.
