Junk from IKEA for over $ 1000

by hal s.

We purchased over $ 1000 of merchandise for office furniture. The assembly was so complicated and even after following direction, the screws went through the other side of the wood damaging the drawers. The materials were made so cheaply that the screws would not hold.I would never shop at IKEA, we spent 6 hours trying to assemble the junk and it is so cheaply made that I might as well throw it in the trash. Then when you complain they want you to return the merchandise, which will require me to spend another 6 hours dis assembling it and hauling it back to the store( I already have a back ache from hauling it home and carrying of their warehouse storage ( no help even offered at the store).Bottom line IKEA sold me a $1000.00 worth of junky furniture that did not work and I now have to spend another week end returning it.I will never shop at IKEA again

INADEQUATE Kitchen Installation Services

by John G.

I tried to buy Ikea kitchen cabinets, appliances and granite countertops worth $7,500 only to find that their "Ikea Certified Kitchen Installer" will NOT do any electrical work for any Ikea product such as hook up lighting, connecting to their own stoves, stove hood, garbage disposals, dishwasher, etc. They will NOT even install an Ikea sink or faucet! You're even asked to make all your own arrangements for a dumpster and have your own old cabinets hauled away - they won't touch them. Even the granite, corian and other countertops are done by another Ikea installer, not the kitchen guys, oh no. Not that the installer is not qualified, he's a CA licensed General Contractor and is therefor licenced to build a complete house, not just hang cabinets.I tried calling the Costa Mesa Ikea store manager but was refused access to him. I was told instead that I had to call Ikea Corporate Headquarters in Pennsylvania to complain about the lack of electrical and plumbing services.

Remember My first time

by Debbie T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,573

I remember the first time going here - now every time we are down south we visit just to look and if we have room to drive it back we do.

Nice place. Have a look.

This is it

by Brian T. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 278

This was my first experience to the IKEA store and I love it. So many one of a kind options to choose from.

Lots of people though, so go early and travel light.

Excellent staff as well.

compared to covina and burbank Ikea, this place is a shame

by alex d.

i always have gotten stellar service and help from ikea in covina and burbank, but when i had to make a return on a table (gallant series)that was too wide, this was how the conversation went as soon as I approached the CSR lady (she had short, layered dyed hair) at 8:40pm on November 2nd:

CSR: "what is that?"

me: "its a table i bought from you guys last night, i have the receipt right here. i need to return it and just get a smaller version"

CSR: "we're not going to accept that because your box is open and <walking around the table top> what is this? it's a scratch <pointing to a half inch scratch>, this is not the original condition in which Ikea has sold it to you."

let me take some time out to tell you that this table still had all its parts in its original box (unopened) and that the table top was opened to check. i do admit to OPENING the box just to check out the table but apparently this lady wouldnt have it so i asked to speak to the manager.

Manager: "what do you want?" (!)

me: "i was just trying to explain to your CSR that this tabletop was given to me this way and that the scratch already existed. you can see that none of the parts have been opened. the ikea s in burbank and covina, in my experience, have no problem taking this back because they will just sell it "as is" and dock me a 35% restocking fee. i have no problem with it, i just cant use this table anywhere unfortunately."

Manager: "look, maybe you get special treatment or you have friends who work there but each Ikea is independently owned and we do not take these back."

At this point, i was just extremely irritated at them and so was another lady who had to return an item that was damaged before she got it even though Ikea claimed that it was in perfect condition when it was sold.

I told the manager that they had just lost a customer for life and that I would find everyone i knew to not shop at this IKEA because of how rude they were. The manager stopped me as I was about say somethi

PROS: they take returns and exchanges if you bought it, and didn't touch it at al
CONS: They play hardball. Don't be fooled by "It's ok! Bring it back!"

Amazing

by Ruth L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,884

This store has the best design ideas. If you are in the market to remodel a room or just want to change the look of a room, come to Ikea. Their store is two floors of show rooms. They have rooms decorated in all the items they carry so you can actually see what certain things look like together before you buy. The stuff they sell comes in many colors usually, and their prices are resonable with the occasional steal.

Ikea

by Hetal P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,410

I personally love Ikea because there are so many things there to buy for my room. However, my parents do not like it because of its structure. They think that it is confusing. We got lost when we were inside that store. Other than that, I think the prices are decent and the items are wonderful.

The furtnirue is really good here at the ikea store. They have great prices, or what i think is good. But i think that what they need is more furniture that is easily assembled.

Great when on CLearance

by Sandy V. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,431

Ikea is a huge super store for home dcor. From my experience, when ever I plan to drop by Ikea, I always make a list of thing I may need for my house because every time I am there, sometime would get me off track and never get anything done. Ikea is much overpriced. Only their clearance items are cheap.

All your decorate need

by Tammy L. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,287

Ikea is a great place to shop for your house decorates. Ikea is so huge with plenty of parking. It is always packed with people shopping. The only down side is that their price is very expensive. I rather go to target to buy the decoration and save. But Ikea no doubt got more selection from all sorts.

Great Store, But expensive

by Jennifer L. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,349

During the last trip to OC, I drop by Ikea of Orange County in Costa Mesa to have a look around. The store can be seen from the freeways. There were allots of parking spaces; lucky they have it because there are allots of people there. I can basically find everything relate to home decoration. However, the thing I didnt like about Ikea was their price. It is very overprice compare to target a few street away.

Ikea

by Phil B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,784

Where else can you get great furniture and unique food for really cheap prices. The furniture, although inexpensive, is sturdy (and if something does happen, they stand behind the product and will replace it).

The restaurant is just awesome... the meatballs and the berries are just great. And for a cheap lunch/dinner it just cant be beat!

It's always fun at Ikea

by Julie T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,004

Even if I don't go there to buy furniture, I like to go to Ikea to get great decorating ideas and space saving ideas. Also, the food court is really affordable and tastes pretty good. I recommend the cinnamon buns downstairs after the cash register.

PROS: Fun ideas, Cheap Prices, Good Food
CONS: Crowded, especially on the weekends

Fantastic prices

by Vonessa L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,319

This and all IKEAS have the best prices! They have all the furnishings you could think of for great prices. They have EVERYTHING You need for the bedroom, living room, bathroom, kitchen, backyard... everything you need to furnish every room in the house. The prices are great. The only downside is that everything must be assembled by yourself. But it's very easy to do so. The furniture comes with tools and and all directions necessary. Return policy is great too!

top notch

this is a huge store with several levels of interesting furniture and home accesories. the furniture here is not typical-looking, which i like. if i want a bed, there are tons of different styles to choose from, and same goes for every other thing you can think of from chairs to couches to tables to shelves. their children's furniture is really cute too. the best thing about this place is the prices. aside from huge furniture such as beds (which are average priced) everything else is cheaper than you could ever imagine. oh yeah, they have a little cafe in the store too, and sell excellent chocolates.

Spacious Huge Ikea in Costa Mesa. The Ikea is swedish furniture stores with affordable price. The furniture store just for college students, I think. Since the price is unbeatable and the style of furniture is so stylish and fashionable and simple. If you need some furniture for your room, or apartment, stop by, you will definately like it.

Great Furniture

by HEIDI L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 10,049

The Ikea is an affordable furniture store in Costa Mesa, great for college students who don't need all the luxury in Furnitures but something that can be stylish and strong. This is the place to go for cheap tables and so on. Their products are very easy to put it together and really affordable compared to other furniture stores.

the organization of the place is great so it is easy to find what you are looking for by yourself.

Pretty Cool

by Jenae M. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,824

Ikea is a really fun place to browse in and get ideas for the home. Their thick catalog is also jam packed with pretty much everything they have available, and another way to get awesome ideas for decorating. The prices are really affordable, and you do have to put most things together on your own but it's totally user friendly. I think Ikea is great for students and people on a tight budget, but it's not the highest quality or elegant furniture out there. Still come check it out its really fun and hip, and you might find a great bargain for your home or for a gift.

This is a HUGE furniture located just off the 405 freeway North of the South Coas Plaza. You just can't believe the amount if inventory in the store, and so many colors of fabric types! When re-decorating my new home, IKEA supplied a sofa, end table and chair. I am so satisfied with the quality and appearance that I am now shopping for a bed frame. The look is fun and contemporary, the styles can be mixed and matched, and the price is absolutely right. The only downside is the real do-it-yourself theme of the store which is tough for motor morons like myself.
