Wanted to bring to your notice our experience with KC Pohl and Pella Windows at MorenaBlvd, San Diego in August 2006

We contacted KC Pohl of Pella per our Construction company's recommendation to replace the existing windows. We were quite happy with the estimate he provided to us. We, however, wanted some changes made to the configuration (double-hung instead of single-hung, colonial grid instead of plain), and we requested the changes and the corresponding estimate from KC. He came back with a response (a contract) that included the double-hung change but did not include the colonial grid (sent Aug. 21'06). Upon reviewing the contract, we requested the grids to be included as well. He then subsequently called me on the phone to confirm our requirements and give me the estimate. We agreed on it, and he then subsequently sent me a credit card authorization and a contract to sign (Aug. 30 '06). My notes from that phone conversation show the price quote ($3300+) and the configuration (double-hung and with colonial grid, etc.).

Here is where things become interesting. As I had reviewed the earlier contract (sent on Aug. 21) and requested the grid to be added, and then subsequently agreed with KC in phone conversation about the pricing and changes, etc., I looked at the new contract to make sure that the grid was included and the pricing was correct. I signed the contract and the cc authorization and placed the order. Unfortunately, it was my mistake that I did not review the contract as carefully as I should have. It was only after the windows were delivered (6 weeks later) that I realized that the windows were Single-Hung configuration. I then went back to review the contract (sent on Aug. 30). For reasons unknown to me, this new contract had been changed to "Single-Hung" windows from the earlier "Double-Hung" windows specification. To our recollection, at no point after requesting the change for Double-Hung windows, did we reconsider it or request it to be changed to Single-hung configuration.

At this point, I called KC to find out why this had happened. KC, essentially referred me to the contract and refused any other discussion or consideration stating that he cannot remember things from 6 weeks ago, and the contract is what he will go by. While I accept my mistake in not reviewing the final contract, and the fact that KC did deliver windows according to that contract, I was quite disappointed by this apparent "bait-and-switch" (whether done knowingly or unknowingly) and more importantly, KC's refusal of any knowledge of our requirement of Double-Hung windows and any further willingness to make things right (short of us ordering new windows altogether, which he said he will provide at their cost, and no credit given for the Single-Hung windows).

I accept our fault in this matter, and have resigned to installing the Single-Hung windows that were delivered, but we still wanted you to be aware of what happened. Perhaps it will be useful for your future interactions with KC/Pella.

More than 10 years ago I remodeled my home and had installed Pella sliding doors in quite a few rooms of my house. I used the doors daily and have never had any problems with them. My contractor that installed them at the time, did not know how to correctly install the Pella screens that came with the doors so for years the screens worked, but didn't lock. When looking through my receipt drawer, I found my original receipt for Pella and called them to come out and correct the screens. I was given an immediate appointment and an employee drove down from LA to fix the problem.
The employee finished everything within a half hour time frame. I'm very pleased with the company and with my Pella doors. Highly recommended!
