Do not go here for the all you can eat lunch buffet. The price was not bad at all but for the food that was offered, it was terrible. The service wasnt bad either but the food got my stomach very uncomfortable. :(

Do yourself a favor - SKIP THIS RESTAURANT.\n\nI decided to write a review after seeing that Shalimar was still listed on Restaurant-dot-com\n\n#1: SHALIMAR DOES NOT HONOR RESTAURANT-dot-COM CERTIFICATES (but what an advertising scheme it is).\n\nI was told by my waiter that the restaurant loses money on them and can't accept them any longer (this was last November).\n\n#2: THE WAITERS ARE RUDE. I've eaten at many Indian restaurants so don't tell me that this is the ""Indian way..."". \n\n#3: Dishes are inconsistent, take a long time to arrive (even when Shalimar is not busy).\n

Excellent buffet. Very romantic. Friendly, professional service. Lovely, clean atmosphere. Hidden gem at the end of Ventura.

Pros: Delicious / great buffet

If you love Indian food like me and my family you will enjoy Shalimar. The ambience is relaxed. Definitely not a upscale type of place but perfect for a random thursday dinner. Treat yourself don't cheat yourself. :)

Pros: The food has incredible flavor and good portions. The waiters gave quick and caring service

Cons: location

I've been eating (& cooking) Indian cuisine for 30 years on both coasts. This restaurant has delicious, authentic food with a depth & complexity of flavor that is only achieved with a good chef. Their tandoori chicken is outstanding. Good keema naan & paratha. Wouldn't get their buffet unless you're on a budget. Eat here: it's worth it. BTW, it's in a strip mall in a part of Ventura Blvd. that isn't very busy. Doesn't look like much on the outside, but table cloths, comfortable seating, reasonable service, moderate prices (& delectable food) make this worthwhile.

Pros: authentic, delicious food

Cons: strip mall location, buffet is just okay

I bet the first two reviews are totally fake or written by people who have no clue how\r\nindian food tastes like. If you love indian food and looking for a decent bite just avoid\r\nthis place. \r\n\r\nWe order tandoori platter and they mix the platter in some sort of curry and onion(a lot of them), and it tastes horrible. Bendi masala has more onions than bendi. We drove a lot to get there and it was terrible. The most horribe indian food I had so far in California.

Really good Indian food. Chicken Tikka Masala is amazing here, better than any other place I've tried. The daal they serve as a soup is also delicious. Vegetables are pretty good, but don't order the Alu Gobi as it is all potato and very little cauliflower. Only issue is they don't do takeout well - twice they've given us someone else's order and then asked us to drop the food off to exchange it. Big waste of time for us.

Pros: Chicken dishes!!

Cons: Sevice is spotty, Parking difficult

The chef trained in London and you can tell! Spicey heat at the level you ask for it, with flavours layered to make a the dishes a whole mouth experience. Lamb tikka appetizer is seriously tender with great taste. My favourites are chicken Dansak and Patia which are a welcome menu sighting.
