Firefly Bistro

We frequent this place often, Thursday nights for tapa and sangria. Weekends for brunch. Thursady night has a great atmosphere with the farmers market and warm evenings. The food is varied and tasty. I wish the tapas were bigger but tapas are not meant to be huge anyhow. Can't fault the place, owner comes out on occasion to talk to his patron.

The food at Firefly is delicious. I went on a Thursday night during the Farmer's Market and shared appetizers and a pitcher of Sangria with a girlfriend, topped off with a decadent desert. We had a wonderful summer evening here and our waiter was really friendly and helpful. The ambiance and food was worth every penny!!!!

I walk by this restaurant everyday and always thought it looked really cute. We ate there with some friends last night and I was very disappointed. The food was ok, nothing spectacular and overpriced. What really ticked me off was that they charged us an automatic 20% gratuity for a party of 6. The service was nothing spectacular and did not warrant a 20% tip, but for some reason they did not leave this up to us. This automatic tipping is a method for waitresses to get away with not doing their job, but still receive their tip. We were forced into a $30 tip for average service. Possibly a group of 8 or 10 might warrant an automatic 18% tip, but NEVER a small party of 6. We didn't order appetizers, dessert or coffee. What was the 20% for?? If a waitress has two tables, one of 6 and one of 2, why would she give good service to the table of 6 if she/he is guaranteed a 20% tip from the table of 6? I do not recommend this restaurant unless you enjoy being forced into a tip when undeserved.

I was a waitress for years and find this practice to be unfair and goes against the point of tipping.

PROS: nice ambiance
CONS: Forced to tip 20% on parties of 6

I hesitate to write this review because I don't want too many more people to know about Firefly, but it's such a great little restaurant I want the owners to do well!

The menu is short, but inventive. Firefly offers fabulous new twists on old favorites (the classic grilled cheese sandwich, for example) while offering incredible new dishes that draw upon South and Central American or Asian ingredients and flavors.

The setting is lovely. If you go when the weather is nice, the only walls are the light strewn hedges that surround the building. It's like dining al fresco in your own yard with your own fabulous chef and staff under really hip lighting.

PROS: Great food and beverage options, reasonably priced, great space
CONS: Cold winter days are not the time to visit.

It's a very chic outdoor restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food is delicious and menu items change periodically. Some nights they feature special food.
I've inquired about their private parties before when I was hosting a friend's shower, and the owners will work with the client on the menu. They serve a delicious gazpaucho soup during the summer months.
