This place has consistently great food, friendly service, and a comfortable and homey atmosphere. Everything is delicious and satisfying, and they have a great brunch and lunch menu: eggs, waffles, pancakes, burgers, sandwiches ... they have a wide selection. The French Toast is one of the best I've ever had, and their turkey burgers and milkshakes are also great. The Grill is always busy and bustling, and at peak times there is usually a wait. The West Portal neighborhood is cute, and you can find parking pretty easily on side streets.

Pros: consistently great food, service, menu

Cons: not open for dinner

The Village Grill is it's own version of "Cheers" of West Portal. The staff always welcomes every regular customer by name. The patrons are very friendly - there are many regulars who, at given days and times, you can practically set your watch to.

Their long running and stable history in West Portal makes them a gathering place where families, professionals, politicians and even celebrities at times, visit the establishment and do so with equal comfort.

The menu possesses a variety unlike any restaurant in its price range - it is a rare value in San Francisco for value priced eating establishments.

The decoration throughout the restaurant is unique in that it includes plates of all kinds hung on the walls. All of the plates are gifts from the customers through the years from the various places they have traveled.

In the past few months, I have seen The Village Grill really slip on its weekend breakfast. We used to have to wait an hour for a table on a typical Saturday morning, but now its in and out. I think that the West Portal Block just has more competition of food businesses than it used to. The food here is pretty much the same (good)and the service is good. I like the old fashioned diner theme. Is very cozy. I hope that things can pick up for them.

The Village Grill is great for lunch time dining. It's staff are very courteous and quick and the menu has lots to offer.

The meals are great, soup and sanwich selections are very filling. the corned beef hash is a winner too.

Their Irish breakfast at the weekends is very popular and good value.

Can get busy at the weekends but normally very easy to get a table.
