I just returned from dinner and needed to write this out since my entire family was angry. We made a birthday reservation for four adults and two small children at 5:15 p.m. on a Saturday. You would think that there would be no problem having a nice booth ready to go when we arrived since it just opened. However, all of the nice window booths were filled with 2 or 3 people - not the six or eight that could fit there. When we arrived the hostess did not have our table ready or any table larger than a four top. There was only two reservations on the hostess' sheet when we arrived. They did have a window booth reserved for someone else coming "later". After speaking to the hostess about using that booth she could not let us sit there. The hostess proceeded to put together a table for us which took about five minutes which seemed odd since no one was eating in the rest of the restaurant yet. Finally, she brought us to our dinner table. RIGHT NEXT TO THE KITCHEN IN THE BACK CORNER. After telling her that this was not acceptable we asked to speak to the manager. We explained the situation and requested the other reserved window booth. The manager said no and that the booth was reserved for the family of a server at the restaurant. She was not even polite about it and did not seem to care about our reservation. Finally, when they were able to put together another table, the table was tilting from side to side and the location was in the access path from the kitchen near the bathrooms. Again, most of the other tables in the restaurant were empty still. We would have left right then but with two hungry small children it was not easy to pick up and leave. Not once did the manager come over to apologize or see how we were doing. Not once did the hostess ask if everything was acceptable despite seating people around us during our meal. They only seemed to care about getting the restaurant open and not about us at all. I have eaten at the Sammy's in the Gaslamp on numerous occasions and found the management to be much more attentive. I travel down to San Diego one or two nights every week and take out clients all the time. That is why I thought it would be a nice location for a family birthday dinner. However, the manager at the Carlsbad location acted in such a way that I will not go back again. It is too bad that they do not care about special occasions or take care of people who take the time to call ahead for a reservation. Needless to say we did not order desert for the birthday boy.

.

From the outside, it looks like a very nice place, and even the inside is decorated good. However, I felt that their pizza was not the greatest I have ever had..as a matter of fact, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to say it was a 3 or 4. I did not care for their sauce or types of pizza they had, and they only carry 1 size pizza. There are no larges, no mediums..all pretty much personal size. And they charge what any other pizza establishement would charge for an 18" pie. Very over priced..
