I have ate at El puertos taco shop many times. I have to say its delicious. Very good service family owned and reasonably priced. its a great place to satisfy your Mexican food craving. I would recommend their California burrito one of my favorites.

El puertos food is great

by carol g.

I have been eating at El Puerto taco shop since they opened in 1978.

Their food is reasonably priced and everything on the menu tastes great.

"Taco shop" is the first answer I get when I ask family members what they want if we don't cook at home.

Friends say they come to visit more often because they use visiting us as an excuse to order from the taco shop.

El Puerto has prepared food for many of our parties.

I often bring their food into work for potlucks and everyone there raves about it.

The hot sauce is especially flavorful, and just the right amount of spice.

El Puerto Taco Shop

I wasnt let down one bit. After having sampled most of the "fast" food Mexican Restaurants in the County as well as National City, over the years, which has a few really good "sleepers" which I wont mention here I see El Puerto as a stand out.

"Sit down" why bother ? If its excellent food one is seeking El Puerto has some of the best if not the best Mexican Food to go or stay, in our region, not just Spring Valley, where it is located. Others may not want to try to compete here.
It is obviously a tradition and neighborhood oriented with many regulars. It gets somewhat crowded around Lunch 7 days a week.

Those incredible little specials like Caldo de Pescado or Sietes Mares or you name it, are simply rare these days. If it wasnt for El Puerto well... They are always friendly and food arrives in a timely manner.
I hope the rest of San Diego doesnt show up all at once and force higher prices. It appears that they are doing a "roadhouse " business as they said in days of yore.

Love their food!

by Jessica P. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,489

El Puerto Taco Shop has been around for probably at least 15 years. Their prices are decent and the emplyees are really friendly.
Their rolled tacos are excellent!
If you want the real gaucamole, make sure to let them know that you want mexican gaucamole because otherwise you might get the fake stuff that is basically sour cream... which is pretty good on the rolled tacos.
