1 Stars: Example: great place for good bread (by maevictoria)

This place needs to be updated. They even give you old towels for a napkin. The food used to be good but now it's horrible. The dancers there look old with skin hanging off them. After the owner died I see that this place is ready to be axed for how can it stay in business? The bread was old and the meat tasted like cafeteria food. There's the same down the block that's cheaper and nice looking dancers called Moon of Tunis.

1 Stars: Food is whatever, but service is terrible. (by Nixie7337)

We went to this restaurant because my friends teacher was belly dancing there that night. The menu is set and ran about $35 per person. The eggplant salad to start was really good, but when I asked him for a fork or a spoon to eat it with he told me that I was supposed to eat it with my hands, because that was the tradition. Even though all of the tables around us had silverware. He ended up bringing me a spoon, but with attitude. After this incident, he was rude for the rest of the evening, and when he brought the bill, I asked him for change for my $100 bill, and he told me he didn't have change. I was so disgusted at this point, that I couldn't wait to leave. We were 4 girls all together, so we paid with cash, and the balance on 1 girls credit card, he took the bill and asked us if we would be tipping him using this cash or if we were going to put it on the card. He was so rude it was unbelievable. This place looked like it was right out of some village, and they gave you freaking beach towels as napkins, and they keep the bread in a sombrero like basket that EVERYONE in the restaurant puts their hands on to take their own bread. I could go on, and on, but all I can say is that there are a MILLION other restaurants in Los Angeles, that are soooooo much better than this place. I will never go there again.

2 Stars: Food- Not So Good (by alissabeth)

We went here for New Years and although we had a great time in the company of our close friends, the food was bland and overcooked in general. Even the bread wasn't good. It would have been nice for someone to tell me when I made the reservation that it would be a price fixed meal. We would have preferred to order from a menu and have more choice. I would skip this place if you are looking for good Moroccan food. We also did not love the ambiance-- it was a bit bright for dinner.

5 Stars: Belly dancing fun! (by Debbie R.)

This is an awesome place! It's morrocan. You sit on pillows at low tables and they bring you your courses one at a time. Food is DELICIOUS!!! It's really fun when the belly dancers come by and make you dance with them.

2 Stars: Too many courses of very rich food. (by Maltesers)

I loved the interior and the whole look of the place but I have been here twice now with a large group and did not enjoy the experience either time.
There are too many courses and the food is incredibly rich. Some of the dishes are supposed to be eaten with your hands but it doesn't really work in large groups with sloppy sauces! Our group was put in a very dark corner with no lamps or candles and we could not hear the music. I felt that I was paying for lots of food that I did not really want as it is a set dinner.

4 Stars: Very Fun Restaurant -- Great Experience (by Joan K.)

this is fun and different -- sit on pillows in an indian palace -- with belly dancers!! - They pour the yummy mint tea from high about the table! There is basically a preset dinner experience -- I thought everything was really good and it was fun to try all the different dishes -- you eat with your hands! Great place for a birthday --

4 Stars: Perfect For an Arabian Nights Experience minus the horses (by Mytie25)

The decor was gorgeous. The belly dancers were cool. Feel free to join in if you like. The food was very disappointing. I found it to be bland and very watered down. I felt like I wanted to add salt and pepper to most of the dishes that were served. The wait staff was attentive and the service was excellent. You're paying for the experience.

1 Stars: we were disappointed! too expensive and you feel glutenously full. (by badooya)

me and my boyfriend went on a friday evening and had a good time. but the belly dancer was not pretty at all, she was my mother's age or older. they automatically served everyone a 7 course meal!!! can you imagine. well we were very relaxed but by the 4th course we were full and had to pay a $110 bill for the both of us. we also had one alcoholic beverage each. i don't recommend it because it's not all that it seemed to be. not worth the money you will end up spending. left overs aren't good either. ;(

3 Stars: GOT ROBBED!!! (by beachbm)

BE WARE!!! We paid our 400 dollar bill and were wait for the valet to bring our car when the waiter and manager came out and accused us of not paying. We explained to him that if we had not paid the bill than we would have run away, not stayed there for 15 minutes while they refused to even look for the cash or talk to other waiters. The owner then called the police even though all 6 of us stayed there. The manager told our dates in explatives that we were criminals. THE EXPERIENCE is not WORTH THIS RUDE ATMOSPHERE...!!!!

Simply put: someone on the staff is a criminal and the owner did not even consider the possiblity!!

5 Stars: talk about stepping into a different world!!! (by n8kedgirldancing)

OMG!!! I took my boyfriend of five years here fro his birthday. It was awesome. As soon as we walked in we were like "where are we"... the decor is awesome and fun. There are no tables, chairs, or silverware here-- instead there are low couches that line the rooms full will pillows you can relax on while you await one of the seven courses that is coming your way. Everyone from the host to the waiters are wearing traditional clothing and you really get transported to Morroco while you are here-- like I said SEVEN courses and boy are they tasty... and to top it all of live belly dancing!!!!!! For two plan on around 100.00 including drinks... very reasonable for all the food you get (they are happy to give you a box for all the lef overs). The only thing I felt like I was missing was my hookah!

5 Stars: Impressive Decor, Romantic, Excellent Food (by gpine23)

Dar Maghreb is an excellent date spot if you really want to WOW your spouse/girlfriend/boyfriend. The decor is extremely intricate, it makes you feel like in a morrocan castle once you enter the restaurant. The food is great and the portion is generous, and not to forget it's a 7 course meal. I think $37/person is quite reasonable considering the quality and the amount of food you're getting. Just remember to come with an empty stomach. You don't want to miss a single course, especially not the B'Stilla, which is just excellent and you can't just find it in any Morrocan restaurant (The dish is difficult to make).

3 Stars: Eh...not that impressive (by devilishxangel)

The decor of the restaurant is wonderful. The food was okay. The service was sub-par. The prices are high. The belly dancer dances around to all the tables summoning you to put dollars in her outfit. Fun but I had that feeling like she won't walk away unless you give her money. Overall, the restaurant was eh.

1 Stars: Some of the RUDEST service I've ever received! (by billshockley)

My boyfriend and I were having a romantic dinner when a DJ set up right behind his chair and began playing loud dance music for the birthday group next to us. They all started clapping, screaming and dancing. It was SOOOO loud that I couldn't believe we were expected to continue to eat a meal, much less have conversation. We complained and were reseated, although it was still loud, and then the maitre d' came over and said that our new table was reserved and moved us back to our original table. Needless to say, the romantic dinner was basically ruined, and we asked for the check with two courses left to go. They still charged us the full amount, and when I told the hostess it was too loud, she said, "Well, it's Saturday night." Well, last I checked, this was supposed to be a restaurant, not a dance club. I COULD NOT BELIEVE that they not only refused to remedy the situation (most restaurants would have apologized and given a discount), but were so rude about it!!!

5 Stars: Feed each other bite by bite (by courtneycarmel)

My boyfriend took me here for Valentine's Day because the decor reminded him of the time we spent together in Southern Spain. The place is gorgeous, and makes you feel like you are somewhere other than LA. The service was fantastic. But nothing gets better than the food! The chicken and raisin filo appetizer, the honey lamb, the roasted quail...I could go on and on. Every new dish they brought was better than that last. The place is so romantic, and you can feed your date with your fingers! Excellent, delicious...

The decor is beautiful, the service is brillant especially for the novice, the food is to die for, I'd starve myself all day merely to enjoy the seven course feast. The entertainment is exceptionally fun and the total cost makes you come back for more. A must for groups, first dates and the couple looking for a romatic adventure.

3 Stars: Fun for a special occassion, good food, watch the pricey wine list (by Robert G.)

I have to agree with almost everything Gavin said in his review. The food is really very good. Its a bit messy at time, but that adds to the experience.

The actual price for the food isnt too bad, around $40 a head. The wacky pricing comes when you order wine. They have a very nice wine list, but everything is marked up almost double what you would find anwhere else. Might be better to stick to the beer, which is less expensive and goes better with the food anyway.

Get one of the private rooms if you are having a birthday party or other special event. Its a really fun experience to do with friends. But probably not something you would do too oftern

PROS: Good food, really fun for special events and big groups
CONS: VERY expensive wine list, food can be too messy

dar ma ha reb is how you pronounce it. Beautiful place. Unique and very tasty food. Family of 5, costs about $250. I felt like i was in the Middle East eating in luxury. Don't worry about making a mess. Just enjoy yourself. Reccomend to everyone. Belly Dancer is soo brave! My family was one of only 2 groups there, and the belly dancer still came out. YOu get your money's worth there. IT is sooo worth it. Once in a lifetime thing. Just do it.

3 Stars: Expensive! moroccan food (by Gavin W.)

This is an upscale Moroccan restaurant. On food alone, this place deserves 4-5 stars, but the price per person is outrageous! To spend around 60 per person to eat with your hands just seems to be a bit much. I realize this is how you're supposed to eat the food, and it's delicious food, but it just seems like you're working hard to get very little. Half the food ends up on the table. When they pour the tea, they do it from high up, which may look cool, but the tea goes everywhere. I don't get it.
They also serve fresh fruit at the end--but it's unpeeled! Why am I paying so much to peel my own fruit! As a result, the fruit largely goes untouched, except for the grapes.
The belly dancers are fun the first time, and if you have a large group of people--but if they come around a second time, it's a bit much. The mint tea is excellent, and so was the food, but this screams out a one-time-deal.

PROS: food
CONS: the price! ouch!

5 Stars: Delicious, Fun and Sexy (by jon5cts)

How do you beat a fabulous 15th century decor and great tasting food? A beautiful belly dancer, of course! Well, the dancer at least adds to the experience in a restaurant that should not be missed! Every dish is more exciting than the last and culminates with delicious mint tea, fruit and pastry. The service is good, but the key is to relax and enjoy the experience. Great for a large group or party.

We took my little brother here for his 16th birthday and it was absolutely PERFECT. The food was amazing - ah, loved eating with the hands, and you get a 7 course meal!
