This store is across the street from our office but I know many who travel far to come here and they say its their favorite book store in LA. This is not a barnes and noble or borders. Its small, intimate, edited, and feels like a place of the past. Good art section and intl magazines. Written from my cell phone.

This place has everything as far as book stores go, and if they don't have they'll get it for you. Without all the mass consumer qualities of a Barnes and Noble. Really cool neighborhood feel, they have books you won't find anywhere else. Including a pretty cool selection of used books. They also have great readings from well-known authors. If you're looking for a cool neighborhood book store, this is it.

They get some great authors in there for book signings. Eclectic selection of material, worth a look.

I got off work early one day, so I decided to check out this little bookshop across the street, and I fell in love with the place. Other chain bookstores I have been to that have a rather sterile and commercial feel, but BookSoup still maintains a cozy, neighborhood book-store environment. When I walk into the store, I feel like I've just been engulfed in a sea of books as shelves of books are towering over me. Perusing through the shelves, I see that there are many recommendations and comments by the staff, which I think are pretty helpful.

Pros: events, good selection, fun to browse

Cons: hard to reach books, tight space

Incredible selection, super friendly and extremely knowledgeable staff. Not to mention the many, many in-store appearances by famous authors and celebrities. It's a bit pricey, but if that's the cost for the selection and service they provide - so be it. Highly highly .

A fixture on the Sunset Strip, this popular bookstore doesn't sacrifice personal attention amidst all that glitter. You can find everything here from art and literature to travel in this unpretentious indie store. The owner, Glen, is very choosy about his staff (he even includes essay questions on the job applications!) So you can rest assured that the staff is more than qualified to make recommendations or give you an opinion. (When looking for books also be sure to notice the attached note cards, which offer helpftul staff recommendations.) Also, you can find signed editions among the wide array of literary and popular fiction titles, showbiz trades and cult journals.

This is the place to go when you're in the mood to browse. They have a great selection of books, including stuff that is off the beaten path. If you're into the history of Los Angeles, check out the section on Los Angeles architecture. You could lose an hour there alone. Also, the staff recommendation cards say more than just the standard, "Love this book, read it." They give you insight into what specifically about the book make it likeable to that staff member so you can decide whether you think it is a book for you. Also, if there is something you are looking for that you don't see, ask and they shall order.

PROS: Great staff
CONS: Parking is not easy

Book Soup is wonderful! They always have the books I'm looking for and if they don't have a particular book in stock they'll promptly order it as quickly as possible. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They pack so much into that tiny store!! I love browsing the cartoon/comic section and never mind stepping over people sitting in the aisles looking through books. I've never had a problem finding parking even though their lot is so small, and the newstand connected to the shop is a definite plus, as is the central location. Keep Book Soup alive and shop there for all your books!! Especially the "arty" ones.

Book Soup is in the heart of West Hollywood - right on Sunset. It's a small store with very cool high shelves - go there for the author signingsand readings. Also, cute cafe right next store for reading/hanging.

Book Soup is a real book lover's place. Their shelves are stacked high and deep with much more than the usual NYTimes Best Seller List items. If you need Hollywood folklore, or strange fact books, cute cards, costume manuals, the creme de le creme of literary entertainment minutae, you're in business here.

There is something about books from floor to ceiling that I find alluring... and, on Sunset Blvd, this seems even more fetching. Imagine, Tom Cruise might be glancing at a title on the other side of the shelf ... or I might bump shoulders with Meg Ryan ... Okay. I'll stick to the stories that have been printed for my perusal!

This is the best bookstore if you are fed up with Borders and Barnes and Noble type stores. Small but unique selection of books found nowhere else. I love Art and Photography and Design sections. I have purchased books here that I didnt know existed and I have over 700 Art Books so finding something new is a treat. Open late so those nights that you are looking for something to do, take a ride, parking usually on street, and go and browse. I mentioned I was a Teacher and received a discount. Niceand informative staff.

This store is great they have a great staff they always have really cool people coming in for signings and guest apperences. The store has crappy parking but if you can get a spot its definitely a book store that you will want to stop by as you cruise down Sunset Blvd. You can feel free to just browse around and read books at your leisure. Book Soup is one of LA's best "literati" experiences. Lots of good books and a staff that's very knowledgable. Parking is a bit of a nightmare but once your there, you're also close to lots of great restaurants and shops so you can spend the afternoon reading and taking in the ambiance.

This place isn't real big but it isn't tiny either. They do have alot of books crammed in there though. I once went to a book signing and I was short a few dollars for the book and the lady from Book Soup offered to lend me the money to buy it. This shows that their employees will go out of their way to help their customers.

Very cool book store located where you're bound to encounter celebrities. I work nearby on the Sunset Strip and was watching Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell film Bewitched there last week. Lots of entertainment books as well as best sellers.

This is a good bookstore with a large selection of show-biz-related books and screenplays. You won't find this of selection of show-biz-related materials in your garden variety Borders or B&N. It's the OpAmp of show-biz. Nice location too. I used to like to grab a book or screen play there and walk over to the Red Rocks bar nearby for a beer.

This is a great bookstore, with eclectic titles and a helpful, knowledgeable staff. While obviously lacking the comprehensive selection of Borders and Barnes & Noble's, they nonetheless manage to stock a large quantity of interesting items. Not your typical Sunset business.
