Juniper Tree

This store is beautiful, but very overpriced. You can do much better
if you are a soap maker at SFIC in Concord. Also many of the
products at Juniper Tree go rancid and have titanium dioxide.

I completely disagree with the first reviewer -- some of us do not want or need a 43 lb of soap supplies -- I don't go here for bulk soap supplies -- I go to try new things and never leave dissapointed. There collection is well edited and tasteful. The merchandise is lovely and the service is great. I've never had a negative experience here.

I am a recreational soaper and have dropped in at Juniper Tree on a few occasions to get cold process and melt & pour ingredients because I was in a hurry to get supplies. They are very high priced. You are much better off buying your supplies from other SF Bay Area suppliers or on-line.

Juniper Tree charges $3.75 per lb. or $99.00 per 43 lb tub for melt and pour base. You can order a 43 lb tub from SFIC Corporation in Concord, CA for only $50. (www.sficcorp.com) Juniper Tree charges about $4 a pound for coconut and palm oils. At Mission Peak Soap in Fremont (www.missionpeaksoap.com) you can get 50 pounds of 92 Coconut Oil for only $55.95. You can get fragrances and colors online from many suppliers (just google it) for at least half the price that Juniper Tree charges. And forget about mix-ins. The clays are a whopping $3-$4 per ounce! You can buy a whole pound for $5-$8 at www.herbalaccents.com.

If that isn't enough, the customer service needs improvement. One clerk there is downright rude.

I like this place personally for the good selection of beauty and bath products that they have in stock. Have good selection of body lotions and soaps and their prices are not unreasonably high. The most amazing thing about this palce is the sheer quality and quantity that these people have. Great customer service to help you pick the right stuff for yourself or a gift for someone.

So...I'm not the most girly of girls...but sometimes one just wants a soap that smells of tea-tree-oil or the like. Plus I like art supplies, they're like super fun to imagine doing things with. So I like the fact that this place isn't too far from home. Woot.

Juniper Tree specializes in homemade soaps, oils, lotions, and other such things that are so froofy and unnecessary your girlfriend will love them. A lot of their stuff is made to your specifications while you wait, so it's like really fresh soap or whatever. Other items come in very attractive packaging and boxes, so while you may essentially be spending $20 on a packet of bath salt, it will at least look like you dropped the cash. Candles and incense are affordably priced and come in a variety of masculine and feminine scents. Plus, the people are nice and will help you if say your last soap purchase was a 3-pack of Ivory.
