I'm a big fan of Pluto's since it's great food and a great value. The best thing about it for me is that it's kid friendly and my kids love eating there.

Everything in thie restaurant is served cafeteria style. There are no waiters! You grab a meal ticket and order your food, the card gets punched out and totalled at the register. Had the turkey/gravy, onion rings and a root beer for $7. Everything was decent. Decor is casual, with some wood tables, stools and a tv for dining entertainment. I liked the place. It's a good deal for the money.

PROS: Fresh food, nice atmosphere
CONS: none

This restaurant offers American home-style cooking, all served a la carte in cafeteria fashion. The menu features fresh, gourmet food, from built-to-order salads, fresh soups and custom-made sandwiches, such as the Grilled Portabello Mushroom sandwich, to grilled herb chicken, herb-roasted Sonoma turkey, marinated steak, grilled seasonal vegetables, and garlic "smashed" potatoes (my personal favorite, but then I never met a complex carbohydrate I didn't like). The restaurant also offers kid-friendly choices. The prices are reasonable and there is plenty of seating.

PROS: Good food, large portions, reasonable prices.
CONS: Cafeteria-style service may not be for everyone.

Pluto's is a great little restuarant for either luch or dinner.

Lunch, the salads are great, so many choices for your farmers green salad, and such large portions.

The sandwiches are lovely, always very creative and unique, has provided me with many versions to recreate.

Dinner, the carved turkey, steak and chicken along with the numerous numebr of sides, allow you to have an extremely healthy and filling dinner for a very reasonable cost.

The staff are great and the atmosphere is always bustling, great place for kids.

Plutos has two locations in SF, one on Irving and another on Chestnut in the Marina. Very informal, where you order your food up front and bring it back to your table. I like this place for their great salads, where you can choose the toppings and they toss it for you on the spot. They're such an excellent deal, with a huge portion for under $6. They also have nice bread and great garlic fries.

This is a fabulous restaurant that is cafeteria style but has GREAT food. They offer several affordable dining options including a wonderful salad bar, freshly cooked chicken/steak/turkey and wonderful sides of veggies and fruits etc. This is mostly for the yuppie crowd looking for good food on-the-go after work or going to the gym on weeknights. It's a staple. And CHEAP for what you get!

PROS: Good prices, Great tasting food, lots of choices
CONS: loud, bad acoustics

If you haven't been to Pluto's and you are a lover of big bowls of salad and simply cooked protein, you must go! They have locations in the Inner Sunset, the Marina, and in Palo Alto. (There may be other locations - not sure.) You can order from a grill station where they have tri-tip freshly grilled (yum!), fresh roast turkey (double yum), chicken, sausages, and their crazy sandwiches of the week. You also can get a gigantic bowl of salad with seven different toppings. You choose from a variety of fruits (strawberries, apples, oranges, etc.) or veggies or yummy extras such as candied walnuts, croutons, or parmesan cheese. My only complaint is that these restaurants can be really LOUD. The Irving Street one has poor acoustics and sometimes a little bit of a weird smell. But for an amazing $6 salad with protein on top, I'm not complaining (well not much anyway).
