we got certified here several years ago and our instructor was top notch. luckily we did not have to go to monterey to do the open water because we did it on vacation, but the classroom and pool work were good. our experiences in the store, however, have not been the greatest. we've purchased equipment over the last several years that we have not been happy with because the sales staff is somewhat unknowledgable. they need more equipment training to sell...

I signed my girlfriend up for a class at Bamboo Reef. The people at the shop turned out to be so rude that I almost couldn't believe it was real-- they pressured her to go out on her certification dives in poor weather, ridiculed her for being scared and rescheduling, made her cry and even called her a liar. We ended up bailing out all together and going to do the instruction at another store. I couldn't possibly recommend Bamboo Reef.

CONS: I think the review itself says pretty much everything.
