I won a cruise for two through an apartment complex I lived in, Central Coast Travel was the agent. Yes I had to mail a registration fee in the beginning, I believe it was around $29. But I was specific in telling the agent I wanted a cruise that fell in the guidelines of the agreement where you only pay $198 pp. We got a 5 day cruise on Carnival from Long Beach which was fine. We used as our honeymoon. Not a super luxury ship but we had fun. More like an first time cruiser ship. Still paid less than if had booked ourselves. I think the key with the package, is stay within the terms and you wont feel slighted. Because yes if you so much as add a day to the cruise, the prices jack up to more than if you had booked yourself. All in all I had a pleasant experience.

The company's policies suck! Who charges $200 per person in taxes while Carnival.com charges $68 per person. Add the registeration fees, registered mail (trip to post office), bankers checks and non availability of seats which translates into a forced upgrade and you have a pretty stupid deal.

RECIEPENTS AND EVEN COMPANIES BUYING FROM THEM BEWARE!!!! We received this certificate from our landlord who told us this was for a "completely free cruise for two, just pay taxes." After reading through everything on the certificate and researching though it really isn't. After looking at the Carnival website a cruise for two is only $378 and taxes are $120 (during fall). Which is a total of $498 for two people. Same 4 night cruise, same standard interior stateroom. Upgrades and "gifts" aren't listed on your certificate so you aren't guaranteed to get it like the company claims in an above reply. So minus the $39 registration fee and the $198 "port tax" PER PERSON (two people totals $396, which is $276 MORE then what Carnival charges for their ACTUAL port taxes of $120 for TWO). So $39+$396= $435 total for using the FREE CRUISE CERTIFICATE. Booking with Carnival only costs $498!!! So to take your FREE cruise you're going to end up paying AT LEAST the price an actual cruise and that's if they don't make you pay a fake surcharge like the lady above. If they make you pay a fake "fuel surcharge" you can end up paying MORE than an actual cruise!!! The lady above says they made her pay $300 dollars for "fuel surcharge." Which would make the FREE cruise total $735!!! Which is $237 MORE than Carnival. The company replied and confirmed it was for "fuel surcharges." But I called Carnival & they said they don't charge separate surcharges for fuel!!! If you go to Carnival and type in "surcharge" it shows they raised their TICKET prices TWO dollars for it for the season (so it's included in the ticket price). ANYBODY can insert a fake letterhead of a brand name company in a letter. AND to make it even worse my landlord paid $200 dollars for the certificate! So recipients AND companies are getting ripped off!!!! So companies are paying $200 for a fake free cruise then the recipient pays AT LEAST the cost of the cruise with the fake "port taxes." Also if you try it out they make it hard to back out later!!! Central Coast Travel charges $35 PER person for canceling no matter how early you cancel PERIOD. Then between 90-119 days before your cruise they charge $100 PER person & 90 days before the cruise you lose ALL the money you paid ($435, or more if you paid fake surcharges). If you book with Carnival, as long as you cancel before 61 days before there is NO CHARGE!!!! COMPANIES you're getting ripped off and if you receive one of these "certificates" don't take it, ask for a different reward and warn the company also!!!!! We almost sent ours in. I'm so glad we researched it first. Also all of these 5 out of 5 reviews note that anybody can sign up and make a fake review. Including a company!!! All of this information you can find on the back of the certificate and at Carnival's website. We thought standard cruises are still very expensive but really they aren't anymore and Central Coast Travel is taking advantage of that, scamming companies AND the people receiving the certificates.

Wonderful experience with Central Coast Travel. I have booked 4 (group) cruises through them and have had no problems at all. In fact, I think Linda worked very hard in getting us moved to another cruise when our cruise was cancelled due to the swine-flu outbreak in Mexico back in May. I will be booking another cruise through them within the next few months.

Please advise on why Central Coast Travel is not registered with the CA Attorney General's Office. We visited the AG office at http://www.ag.ca.gov/travel/
We tried to verify by company name, address, and the previous company name we did not receive any results through any of the searches that we tried.
For those that are thinking about redeeming a travel certificate for this company should not waste your money on such a scam Using a credit card gives you a leg to stand on when making large purchases. As I am sure you have already read in there brochure they do not accept credit cards only cashier's checks and money orders hence no tracking ability.

Business Response:

CCT IS registered with the CA Attorney General's Office We do not know who David O is, but Central Coast Travel is indeed registered with the office of the attorney general as a licensed seller of travel (SOT #2092999-40), a member of Cruise Line International Association and participates in the Restitution Fund. We also do not know where David O. get's his information from as we certainly accept personal checks and call in guests credit cards to cruise lines almost daily.

I wanted to email you and thank you for a delightful vacation! We had a wonderful time on the Carnival Victory. My husband and I wish to thank you for the bottle of champagne and the delicious tray of chocolate covered strawberries and petit fours that awaited us in our balcony cabin when we boarded the ship. What a thoughtful gesture from your company. Rest assured that we will contact you first when we plan our next cruise.

My husband and I booked a cruise using Central Coast Travel. We heard from some friends of ours that they booked their cruise using Central Coast Travel, and they were very satisfied with the service and upgrades they received. The personnel that we spoke with were very helpful, friendly and professional. We booked a Western Caribbean Cruise out of Port Canaveral, on Carnival Cruise Lines, and received a better price than we would have if we would have booked directly with the cruise line. We were upgraded several decks on the ship, and was treated with a bottle of wine in our state room when we arrived on the ship. We had a great experience, and we would recommend this company to anyone wanting to go on a cruise, we will book our next cruise with them again.

We were taken in by the scam when we saw the sign at our bank in the spring of 2008. If we agreed to borrow $5000 for at least 1 year via a home equity loan we would get our certificate and all we had to pay were the taxes and fees. We were skeptical and had the lady at our branch look over paperwork with us. She read the marketing sheet, called the marketing department, and pointed out that it clearly said ??FREE CRUISE CERTIFICATE for TWO? plus taxes and fees. Reassured, we signed up for the loan and waited for our official Cruise Certificate to arrive at the bank. A few weeks after our loan was approved, the certificate arrived at the bank where we had to sign for it (helping to convince victims that it is valuable). Next you have to send Central Coast Travel a $35 non refundable registration fee (payable with check or money order only) to redeem the certificate and see the list of available dates your certificate can be used. After it is too late to cancel the check, the victim will receive a list of cruises and dates. At the bottom of this page it states that the cruise line ??Rates start from $899.00-$1049.00 per person? on the next page it says that you must send $200 (payable by check or money order only) as a deposit to Central Central Coast Travel to reserve your cruise once you decide which one. At this point the victim sends $200 and waits for the documents to arrive, believing that they are getting a cruise worth at least $899-$1049 per person. Approximately 6 weeks later a bill arrives on a Carnival Cruise letterhead for $301 due by 10/8/08 (exactly 90 days before departure) and is payable by check or money order only. If you want to back out at this point you forfeit the $105 of the $235 you have already sent, and no guarantee that you will recover the $130 because you paid by check. Confident that our bank would not let us get ripped off, we sent in the $301 check at the end of September and waited to get our pass for the cruise. On 10/21/08 we had not received anything so we called Central Coast Travel and they said we had to go online and print out our own pass.
During the next month we planned our trip and came across some interesting tips in Frommer??s guide to Cruises under ??beware of scams? where it states ??always use your credit card to pay your cruise it gives you more protection in the event the agency or cruise line fails? and ??if a payment was actually made to the agency, it??s a big red flag that something is wrong? at this point our stomachs sank. We went online to Carnival.com and found out that we were scammed. The regular rate (not on sale or discounted) for our $536 ??FREE CRUISE? was $199 per person for a total of $518.64 for two including all taxes, fees, and fuel surcharges. We called carnival to cancel because according to their policy they would refund our money. Had we booked this cruise with Carnival, or a reputable agent, you get 100% of your money back including deposit if you cancel up to 61 days before, 60-30 days you get everything except your $100 per person deposit. Florence at Carnival said that we had to cancel through Central Coast Travel because they had us booked under a group rate. We called Central Coast Travel and they sent us a cancellation form to sign which states less than 90 days the fee is ?? All monies paid? I called back Carnival and spoke with Lenny Fernandez who said ??I??ve never heard of any agent doing that? and confirmed that carnival would send our refund to Central Coast Travel if we cancelled. He agreed it was best to do a ??NO SHOW? and not let these scam artists get more money that is rightfully ours.

Business Response:

What a shame. Taxes & fees are clearly stated in the terms that Ms. Blandino signed. Nowhere on any paperwork from (CCT) does ??free? appear; this information must have been given by another company. This certificate was sold by AIM ?? a company we fulfill cruises for, but are in no other way affiliated with. Brochure rates are available from any cruise line; however, Mr. Blandino only paid $198 pp, $15 document fee and a fuel surcharge paid directly to the cruise line, totaling $250 pp for a 4 night cruise, saving approximately $1300 off the published brochure rates. Additionally, if they had cruised, they would have received complimentary from CCT: $120 ship credit, an upgrade from 4A to 4E, saving approximately $150 & champagne & chocolates. There were other guests on this same cruise who booked with CCT and were appreciative of all the gifts and savings from CCT. CCT always sends cruise tickets by priority mail in a complimentary document holder unless the guest requests to do e-docs. The Bandinos never signed & returned the cancellation form sent by CCT and were in full cancellation penalty. CCT has documentation on all items addressed and felt it was necessary to respond to false allegations
.

Was given a free voucher for 2 people but ended up being more than the actual cost. They never responded to the fake charges and is the worst company to do business with.

I was sent a offer for a free cruise and before I knew it the cost was much greater than booking with the cruise line direct. They refuse to give a detailed bill and hung up on both me and the cruise line when we tried to resolve the illegal overcharge.

Huge Savings There was no overcharge as Mr. Baird??s credit card was called in directly to Carnival on a three-way call. Carnival confirmed to him that he was saving almost $ 800.00 by booking with CCT.
