My son is a kindergarten student and this is our first year at Country Montessori School. I was a little nervous at first enrolling him as I did not see ourselves as a " Montessori Family". We could not be happier with our experience. The directresses are so caring and loving yet still challenge my son. You can tell that everyone at the school is there because they LOVE what they do and is not "just a job" as I have experienced with my sons preschool. I love the small family like atmosphere and the open door policy. My son is thriving and loves going to school. He gets disappointed when I do not let him go to the after school child care program. He is currently reading chapter books, learning about nouns and verbs, and is getting ready to start multiplication. He is in KINDERGARTEN! My son struggles with fine motor skills and we used to go to Occupational Therapy. I felt like he was receiving more OT in his classroom through the activities he was doing than when we went to OT! His handwriting is now coming along nicely. I taught in public schools for 9 years and I can tell you that there is no comparison in the education received in public school compared to the one received at Country Montessori. I just registered my son for next year and we plan on staying there until he finishes the 5th grade.

Our son is in his 3rd year of the elementary program at CMS, and we believe beyond a doubt that he is getting an exceptional education. We have seen him blossom both academically and socially. We chose private over public school so our son would have the opportunity to advance academically at his speed and not be limited, for the low student-teacher ratio CMS provides, and for the feeling of a caring community of students, teachers, and parents. CMS has not disappointed us. In fact, we plan to stay through upper elementary which is something we had not intended to do originally.
The Elementary Program at CMS is a well-rounded and strives for academic excellence while also emphasizing educating the whole child- one that is socially responsible, an independent and confident learner, a good public-speaker, caring about fellow students, and respectful. CMS offers experiential learning in the indoor classroom, the outdoor classroom (their amazing garden), through their global classroom (their new Spanish Internet Pen Pal Program with their partner school in Honduras) and through awesome curriculum-enhancing field trips. After looking around at the cost and quality of other private schools, CMS - preschool and elementary- is a true gem!

My daughter was very unhappy to leave her old school but relocation made it necessary. The school answered all of my questions when I was touring, and I was impressed by the children all applying themselves to their work. Montessori in action is a thing to behold. The teachers always go the extra mile, communicate closely with the parents if there are any issues at all, there are many activities centered around the children. "Donuts with Dads" allowed my daughter to show me around her class and introduce me to all the materials. My daughter is now very happy and thriving. An improvement over her previous school, which we were also happy with.

Pros: dedicated school community

Cons: can't think of any

When we moved to San Diego, I toured every preschool in the surrounding areas. Some places boasted great equipment and grounds, but I was dissatisfied with the evidence of Montessori principles in action. CMS is a wonderful community where teachers know not only their own students, but all of the children. They are fully committed to Montessori in its pure form, and they do it well. The fact that it is run by a board of parents makes it BETTER, rather than worse. I don't understand the other reviewer's contention. The fact that decisions are not made by an owner (business person), or an administrator under pressure from an owner means that the children's best interests are always served. The board members have nothing to gain, except to protect their own children's education. This is another reason I was drawn to this school, and all of my hopes have been met.

Pros: committed and engaged teachers, true montessori approach

Cons: website is hard to read and not updated regularly enough

Our son was bored in the public school. When it was time to get ready, he dreaded getting up in the morning. It was always a fight. We did some research and decided to check out the Montessori school options. Once we set foot into the classrooms at CMS we were amazing at how all of the children were so happy and busy working. I think we were mostly shocked by the amount of work we actually saw the children doing.

We then made an appointment with the Administrator. She listened to our countless questions and assured us they had an open door policy. The staff contacts us with us with updates and welcomes us.

Our son has been there for three months. Now he can't wait to get to school in the morning. He loves all of his teachers. He even knows the people in the office. Everyone has made an effort to make him and our family feel welcome.

The reading program is out of this world. Our son is actually encouraged to read challenging books and have discussions. It is nice to be able to work as a team with the teachers in the school.

Parents are encouraged to get involved. My husband and I have gone in a couple of times to do crafts and other things in his class and the others as well.

We have already enrolled him again for next year. Thank you Country Montessori School.

After attending another Montessori school in the area and being concerned about some of the teachers etc. I thoroughly researched other options. Country Montessori School kept coming up positively from everyone I talked to. We have now attended the school for 3 years and I have one child in 1st grade and one in Primary. Many of the teachers and administrators have been there for 10+ years, some of them for 20. We love it and the curriculum. My kids are far more advanced than their Public School friends. The only bad reviews I know of are from a disgruntled parent that unfortunately had an isolated bad experience.

Absolutely the best Montessori school my children have ever attended! The teachers, staff and administration clearly care about the children, the families are involved, and everyone just works together to make sure the children receive the best education. Every day when I drop off my children, I see happy faces all around. The progress reports I receive from the teachers are proof positive that I made the right choice for my children (a kindergartner and 2nd grader). CMS IS THE BEST!

This is not going to be the place for everyone. Parents that only want a public school education simply go to public school.

Our daughter thrived in the primary program. She learned to read, do dynamic math and journaling quite early. Whenever we go the birthday parties, parents from other schools always comment about how much our daughter knows.

She looks forward to going to school. This is her first year in the lower elementary program. We love it here!

The school is very clear with their expectations in the beginning. Families learn quickly how much the staff loves working and caring for our children. Every year they have plenty of parent volunteers participate in community oriented events.

Most of the children transition to GATE programs or really expensive private schools. CMS offers more. Music, Spanish, computers, PE and so many other things are included with the small tuition.

We checked out all of the Montessori schools in the area before deciding on CMS. This school is NOT a daycare. If someone is looking for an indoor playground, they better go elsewhere.

My partner and I both work full time. If you want a loving, educational community where your child will thrive, CMS is the best.

I looked into this school with high hopes. Unfortunately, once I asked around in the general Montessori community in San Diego I was dismayed to learn of the school bad reputation. The school is in constant flux as far as administrators and what grades they offer in any given year. I was also told that the fact that it is 'parent' run makes it exceptionally dysfunctional. Parents with no educational background, and with children in preschool, are a great majority of the 'parent' run board. The 'award' was a fake business association token. It is laughable that they claim to be the best. If that is so, save your money and go public.

Visitors to the Country Montessori School are impressed with the self-discipline and independence of even the youngest child. Several alumni transition to high academic private school and excel. We are thrilled with the success of our three girls. Parents are happy to be directly involved with their child's success. It is a non-profit that has a loyal group of teachers. Alumni families are still involved as well. It just won another award two for their preschool and one for the elementary level. Not a surprise considering the academic success the children accomplish there. Thank goodness we found Country Montessori School.

These reviews were all written by the same person - who happens to work at the school. This school is run by a parent board. Their power supersedes that of the weak and inexperienced administrator. The school is a mess because of this combination of factors. Longtime teachers are afraid to leave because of the tough economy for Montessori schools that are struggling to survive due to dropping enrollment. They don't want to lose their jobs. The children, whose parents are on the Board, are not always very well behaved, and this puts a real strain on how these students are dealt with. My children attended this school for over five years, all of the families who started attending when we did, have left. We were the last one to stick it out. Give the school a thorough look before committing your child's time here.

I am not surprised to hear Country Montessori School of Poway has won another award. This is an amazing school. The directresses really care about the children and it shows. Our son has been a student there for a number of years. He loves the place so much that he does not want to come home! They an authentic environment that has been delivering academic excellence for 20 years! I am grateful we have been able to become part of the family at CMS! If you are looking for a fantastic school. Tour this one first! Visit the rest. You'll be back!

The school just won an award and I am not surprised. When we started looking, we went to all of the preschools in the area. This one was the one that made the best impression by far. While the other preschools seemed places to contain kids, at Country Montessori the kids were doing activities individually or in groups. For me it felt like the difference between babysitting and teaching. After our child finished preschool my wife and I decided to keep our son at Country Montessori for elementary as well. While Poway Unified Schools have very good reputation, we feel there is a significant difference in the attention to each child. His education is not just academic, but very well rounded. The school is a non profit: They put kids first and it shows.

I've had my kids in 3 different schools in Poway, and checked out many others. This is the best I've seen by far. It's been around for 20 years. The variety and quality of educational and fun programs for kids is really mind-boggling. The best part is that everything is totally focused on the safety, well-being, and educational/emotional advancement of the children. I highly recommend CMS to any parent looking for a very high-quality care environment for their children. This place is highly coveted and the limited open spots get snapped up very quickly.

Country Montessori School is an amazing place. I was surprised to see how much our daughters love the school so quickly. The staff is exceptional. The quality of the education surpasses what is offered elsewhere. We are fortunate we were able to find this school. It feels like it is the best kept secret in town. I highly recommend Country Montessori School.

Prior to the birth of our son, I spent several years teaching. Once it came time to choose I school, I discovered the best kept secret. Country Montessori School is wonderful. This school is located in the city of Poway. It is the only authentic Montessori School. The directresses are Montessori trained and adhere to the Montessori method. I am certain if Dr. Maria Montessori were alive today, she would recommend Country Montessori School as much as I do. If you are looking for a great non-denominational school to send your children, I suggest you visit CMS. They encourage parental involvement. The environment is warm and the children in the school reflect the best characteristics that families desire. CMS is the BEST MONTESSORI SCHOOL in POWAY. If you live in 4S Ranch, Santa Luz, Poway, Scripps, PQ, RB or any other surrounding area, check out this school. I love it!
