It is wonderful that students have a 4 year school in this area, but there are many young people that can't attend because of lack of degree choices. I just read the flyer for the college and the school suggests Freshman attend community college and transfer into the school as a Junior. I can understand that colleges fill quickly, but the flyer handed out at one of the local high schools makes it sound like Freshman should find a different school to attend.

I am a current student at CSUCI in the credential program. I was a bit apprehensive about attending such a new university at first, but it's great! The campus is beautiful (it's located where Camarillo State Hospital used to be, which is odd, but interesting) and the professors are wonderful. All of the teachers that I have had are extremely well qualified and have had extensive experience in the fields that they teach. Best of all, CSUCI is in the Cal State system, which means that it's affordable.

The only problem is that because CSUCI is still a new school it is missing several important programs. There is still no Masters in Education (which is what I am eventually aiming for), engineering degrees, or even any language classes other than Spanish. I know that this will probably change in the next few years, however.

Overall, this is a wonderful university, as long as they offer the major that you're interested in.

PROS: Great professors, friendly students, small classes
CONS: New school--doesn't offer everything

I drove out to CSUCI to get fingerprinted at the station and the woman in charge had a real attitude problem. Next time I will be sure to use a closer service - it will be undoubtedly nicer too.
