When I decided to pursue nursing as a career I was going through a list of accredited nursing schools in California. I narrowed down to a couple & finally decided I wanted to join the Pacific college. I can??t say how happy I am about my decision. Pacific college is the best. The staff here is fantastic. They truly care about your progress & their teaching methods are really great. I recommend Pacific college to all my friends who want to do nursing.

I'm a current student. Before choosing to go to this school, I was very fearful from all of the negative reviews about this college being a scam, how they take your money, the instructors aren't qualified, and you are "locked in".

I wanted to give honest insight to the school at this point in time (as of March 2011). I don't know how the school was last year or in years past, but I can say that this school is legitimate and the administration and staff are completely competant. The director of the school is an honest and educated man who has nothing but good hopes for the students of this school.

Good things about this school: Free personalized tutoring anytime you need it. The lady who tutors the students will honestly come to you anywhere- at a coffee shop, the library, etc. The computer lab is there for you to use every day with excellent quality computers. The school is small, but I like it. It's intimate, you get to know the front desk staff and the counselers and all of the instructors. School is clean and semi-remodeled.

There is also a new program that they are implementing that helps the students prepare for the NCLEX. It is an excellent tool for us students. My instructor is very well educated and has been with the school for about 10 years. The other instructors have been there for 5+ years as well as a lot of the staff. I honestly feel like I am getting a good education. I'm being challenged. There is a lot of homework and a test about every week, but it's good preparation.

As for the negative things, there really aren't that many I've encountered yet. I really had my guard up in the beginning. I wanted to know details about if I failed a term, what would happen to me, if I wanted to drop out, if I would get any money back, etc. I was really skeptical because of all the reviews.

I received financial aid from this school and the tuition and fees were all told to me in the beginning. The program is $28,500. I received about $3,000 in grants. I pay about $130/month. You have 5 days into the program to decide if you want to drop out and if you do, you will receive all of your money back.

If you drop out into the first term, it just depends on how many hours you've already been into the term and they deduct that amount. Obviously you're going to owe them some money back for already going to class for X amount of days. And if you drop in the 2nd or 3rd term obviously you will owe more because you've already been in the program for a while.

It's nothing shady and it's nothing dishonest. You want answers? Ask until you find out what you want to know. That's what I did. I didn't want to get myself into a program that would rip me off or lied to me.

And it's not true about some of these reviews that say once they take your money, they will treat avoid your calls and not help you. Honestly I don't know who was writing those and I feel bad they had a horrible experience with that, but the admissions couselors are real people like me and you. They have kids and spouses to go home to at night. They are going to do the best they can to give you the info you need. They are not dishonest. I still visit my admissions counsler every day and just say hello as I leave class. She looks out for me makes sure I'm doing good in the class.

My instructor is top notch. He told us from the very beginning that he's going to do everything in his power to make sure each of us understand everything and that we graduate. And so far he hasn't let us down. Every test we have, he prepares us fully for and always asks us minutes before if we still have questions.

For all the reviews saying the you basically have to teach yourself because they don't cover all the info in the class, that's not exactly true. Sure, there's a lot of info that all can't be covered in class, but we are getting good lecture every day.

Hope this provides some good info for a future student. All I can say is the reviews in the past are in the past and this is as present and as truthful as it gets right now (as of March 2011).

RUN FOR YOU LIFE!!! OMG!
The good reviews are written by the staff. This school's administration is comprised of professional liars. They treat the students like dirt. They do nothing they say they will do. When you sign up, you are doomed! The education sucks, they hold you and make you take tests of their own not required by the state board. This is to hold you back and make you pay more money. They say this is to help you pass state board, it is a big lie. They will not let you graduate or take boards, they make you repeat terms if you don't pass. They need a class action lawsuit filed against them by past and present students. Everyone there is so stressed out unnecessarily due to constant lies that is told to them. They do not have adequate facilities for you to go to for clinical. The acute hospitals will have nothing to do with this school. They lost all their contracts, so they have you a dirty, nasty convalescent homes for 75% of your time there. You are in the worst convalescent homes for 2-3 terms of your 4 terms. They work you like pure slaves in these facilities. They constantly loose you records and you have to make-up days and times you were not absent. Everything is a hold up to keep you from state boards. It is an act of God to get through this school. The clinical instructors are dangerous, omg! They have no care for the students it is all about you working like cattle for the facility with bare minimal breaks I beg of you, do not put yourself through this! There is not one student that is happy with their decision to attend this school, they will put a class any and everywhere they can to get the money. They have people meeting at unethical places just to get the money, they know what! They start off with 35 students in a class and end up with 5 at the end. They will say it is because it is the student, no one will put themselves through this torture for almost a year if they didn't want to do this. They never take responsibility for their actions, they are horrible. After you sign up, they dodge your calls, and talk to you like a dog. They know you are locked in, its horrific! Please spread the word about this school, they need to be shut down. I tried to call other schools and ask to transfer or test out of the terms so I don't have to repeat the term I finished, they said, oh no, not Pacific College, we have heard about them. That is sad!

Dont forget the program is intensive! Simply because you need to cover the material in less time compared to a community college. So it is a bit stressing but at the same time I know I am not being cheated out of being exposed to all the skills I need to develop before I get a job. 4 out of 5 stars just because I wish they had wi-fi at campus(more technology). But I learned alot and passed my board exam. :)

Honestly, this school is no good! there's no education here, just a way to lose your money. There's no instructors who are stable or stay for very long. There are no clinical placements, the teachers are constantly rotating. The admin is really awful. I am now licensed but not happy about my experience there. i do not recommend it. Nobody I know felt good about the quality- it's like a nursing mill- as many students as they can stuff into a classroom, the better more money for them. It was a joke. Stay away... Look elsewhere, better yet, look at RN programs instead. Unorganized.

This college is a scam. they have the most under-qualified teachers and the staff treat the students like dogs. I managed to barley graduate however out of the 30 some kids that started the class with me only 7 graduated. mid semester we ended up having to absorb 20 or so students from another class because their teacher was fired for falsifying documents. The tests they give are riddled with mistakes so even if you answer the question right you can get marked down for it and they don't give you credit when you catch the mistake.

EVERYONE WILL TREAT YOU REALLY NICE BEFORE YOU PAY THEM BUT ONCE THEY GET YOUR MONEY THEY WILL TREAT YOU LIKE ANIMALS. I PROMISE.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: THE LVN COURSE DOES NOT COUNT FOR CREDIT ANYWHERE. IF YOU WANT TO ADVANCE TO RN YOUR GOING TO HAVE A HELL OF A TIME FINDING A BRIDGE PROGRAM THAT DOEST HAVE A TWO OR THREE YEAR WAIT LIST. YOUR BEST BET IS TO GO STRAIGHT TO RN AT A COMMUNITY COLLEGE. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID. THEY TREAT THE ALUMNI EVEN WORSE THAN STUDENTS. IF YOU THINK THEY ARE GOING TO HELP YOU FIND A BRIDGE PROGRAM OR A JOB WHEN YOU GRADUATE, YOU ARE IN FOR A RUDE SURPRISE. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THIER STUDENTS OR ALUMNI!

I graduated from Pacific College in Costa Mesa in 2007. My training there totally prepared me for the State Board exam. I passed the first time that I took it! I am a single mother and knew that it was going to be hard, but I received a lot of help from the instructors and from the tutoring that I received. They truly cared about my education. I was referred to that college and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Pros: small class size, large percentage of graduates passed Boards, have been in business a long time.....very stable, great staff!!!!!!!

I am a graduate of Pacific College in Costa Mesa and am very happy with my training. I am waiting to take my State Board exam and I know I will succeed. They have very good teachers and a very good State Board review. I feel very confident! I am a Filipino and am glad that I went to this college.

I give Pacific College thumbs up for not only providing me an excellent education in which I was able to get straight into the RN program shortly after getting my license due to "college" learning and hard work. Sure the school is not perfect are you??? While enduring not only myself but fellow class mates and instructor,an over whelming bunch of crap to put it nicely from not all but most of the "filipino" students the entire 12 months.

My advice to all. DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL! save yourself.
Those in control of the school's finances have new classes starting constantly while dropping current students for illegitimate reasons after they get grant/loan $$$. It is VERY well known throughout the filipina community (LARGE NURSING COMMUNITY) to avoid this school at all costs or end up regretting your decision. If you are a student, TRANSFER asap.
Run, don't walk!!

Pacific College is a great Vocational College. They arent well known or well adversities like other college, but they offer great program like any other college. I got my vocation nursing from here and it fast and easy. There are no such things as a waiting list or line here. I would recommend everyone to drop by and check it out.
