This place is great as long as the parents of the kids, are paying attention to the kids. We live in the neighborhood and go there quite often. It is great, even when crowded with lots of kids except when the kids are out of control, then it is terrible for all of us. Last time I was there, the food was great (Shepherd's Pie), but the parents sitting and drinking while their kids played tag in the entire restaurant, ruined our meal. The manager had to step in and tell the kids to stop running around...while the parents did nothing.

PROS: Food, location, atmosphere
CONS: Kids out of control

In addition to absolutely amazing fish n' chips and onion rings, the Circus Pub has the best cheeseburgers in the East Bay. The atmosphere is friendly and casual and the food never disappoints. My wife and I go at least once a week.

PROS: Great food, friendly atmosphere
CONS: they're not open for lunch

This neighborhood pub is so much fun. Throw some darts over a pint of the many many great choices of beers and ales. The fish and chips are heavenly - crisp, perfectly batter-dipped with vinegar on the side and a big mound of cole slaw. Onion rings are also crispy and wonderful. Staff are friendly and helpful. Parking on the street is usually no problem (located in Colusa Circle).

I took a friend there last week for fish and chips. He wanted to go there again the following night! And still is raving about the pub and the great food and hard cider he ordered to go with his meal.

We should have more places like this in the bay area. Kensington Circus Pub serves beer, pub food, and has a corner devoted to toys and games for the kids. On any given night, you will find a full house filled with families. The adults are enjoying their food and drink, and the kiddies are enjoying their toys. It is a great concept. The food is not the greatest, but it's palatable. Beer can make almost anything taste good. They have a very good variety of beer, catering to the most discriminating tastes. My last experience here was not the best because a big kid was taking toys away from my toddler. My toddler couldn't understand it and I eventually had to play the ref. Then I find out the big kid's parents were sitting right in front of this action, gorging on their food and letting their brat act like a monster. As soon as I intevened, they acted like the doting parent's that they weren't. Anyway, besides this drama, Kensington Circus Pub is worth the trip.

Kensington Circus is a fun, very family friendly pub. On any given night, you can find kids from 1 to 102 in this pleasant convivial bar and restaurant. They even have a kids play area. The food is excellent, particularly the Shepard's Pie, which is spicy and flavorful. Their portions are large and the chips are very good, and their selection of beer and cider is great. There's sports on the telly and there's even a dartboard! A lovely, warm place for dinner!

Okay, wall or no wall, the Circus is still a marvelous gem of a pub, complete with a sardonic, balding scouser for a propietor. Authentic pub food, and some of the best draft beers in the Bay Area (be sure to try the Fuller's ESB). Live music, darts, and some brightly-colored plastic toys for the carpet monkeys (i.e. children). More of a family restaurant these days (rather than the dark and cozy bar it once was) but still one of the best options for expats and anglophiles alike. Cheers!
