A co-worker said invited me to the Friday Night Flea Market in Monrovia and also to Jakes Coffee Shop. What a pathetic experience. I tried the chicken and a side of what should have been hot links. The chicken was under done and pink and the link was nothing more than a hot dog. The sauce was weak like ketchup and the corn was water logged. As you can see, I had a BAD experience here. It's nothing but a glorified coffee shop that pretends to do BBQ. Funny that I couldn't smell any smoke like you do at Claim Jumpers. Bad BBQ.

My favorite thing about Jake's Roadhouse is the way the resturant is decorated. Their walls are covered with street signs, paintings, and memorabilia. The most humorous signs are in the restrooms. We sat in the back of the restaurant which was really great. There was only a couple of tables that were occupied so we didnt hear all the people in the front. The food however, was average. It wasnt terrible but it wasnt amazing. The California Chicken Sandwich my cousin ordered was very good. She gave me a peice and I loved it. My order was ok. I ordered their BBQ Chicken Quesadilla with my choice of fries. It is also a bit pricey. My order was about $10. A good thing though, is that the portions are very large. Overall, the only reason I would want to go back is for the decorations on the wall and enviornment.

I travel from South Orange County 3 times a month for five years and I always ALWAYS go straight to Jakes. I have eaten there abou 50 times and NEVER been disappointed. My once a month Sunday breakfast costs about half of what it would cost in San Clemente. Great patio dining, great sevice and nice people.
This is not my favorite rib place (Rib Trader, 92672) but there is LOTS of really good food on the menu. Especially breakfast. JC

Jake's Roadhouse makes better food than I expected it to - the barbecue is nicely flavored and they have a good burger as well. The dining area is just way too small, and it's impossible to eat there on Friday night because of the Street Fair - there is usually an hour-long wait, at least. Overall, it's pretty tasty food, and I'd probably eat there again.

Pros: Tasty ribs and burgers, lots of good side dishes, good desserts

Cons: Parking can be tough on weekends; long waits on Friday; No alcohol allowed on the patio

This is really good food. I really recomend you all to try it. I went there with my good friends and we loved it.

I've eaten at this place a few times as well as bought items from their booth they set up for Monrovia Day in Old Town. Their food to me is nothing to die for, and always seems a bit pricey. Even so, they seem to get a lot of customers in every day for some reason. There is a bunch of memorabilia to look at inside the restaurant and the atmostphere isn't bad. The place is still too small just as it was before it moved. Their catering truck is bigger than the restaurant. The service has always seemed friendly and accomodating. Im not a big BBQ fan, but the burgers and sandwiches are just average fare. Overall this place gets an Average rating, because thats just about all it is.

I like this place. It may not be the best place in LA for ribs, but you can't beat the price. Their lunch special includes Spare Ribs (4 pieces) for $6.99 and Babyback Ribs (3 pieces) for $8.99 among other things. They come with corn bread and one side. Their burgers are decent too. I think it's great for lunch when you want meat and a reasonably priced lunch. Worth a visit, I say!

My husband loves this place, we usually have the burgers and the mushrooms in butter & garlic... YUMMY! The kids love it because you can throw peanut shells on the floors. The servers are always pleasant and quick to offer suggestions and check on you after your meal is delivered.

The chocolate cake is to die for and sooo big our family of five orders one for the whole table.

We enjoy a fabulous Mother's Day breakfast at this joint. You can't find to many places serving hotlink style bbq sausage with eggs!

PROS: Classic entrees with a twist, fast service, friendly, & yummy food!
CONS: Parking can be a problem especially on Friday nights!

This bbq is the best in the world. The ribs have so much meat with the best bbq sauce I've ever tasted. Its great for families. Especially since 90% of the employees are related themselves! Its got great service and delicious burgers. The Chef Salad is my favorite dinner. The walls are so unique! I've never seen a place with such style and quality. Anyone who doesn't like Jake's has something seriously wrong with them! Two Thumbs way up for this place.

PROS: You feel right at home.
CONS: You wish it never closed!

I love to eat out!!! I love to try new places in different areas. This time I decided to stay within my own area, and headed over to Jakes for some lunch. Well, I could of gotten better, faster service any where else. But I stuck it out and waited, I decided to give up and just asked for some water with dessert. I felt guilty holding up a table. I should of just walked out I was overcharged for dryness, flavorless. I highly recommend not to stop and venture here. Very dissapointing.

PROS: no waiting was seated after asking
CONS: bad service waited to long to be attended

I tried Jakes 3 times over the summer while attending the Friday nite Flea Market and was disappointed every time. I've found the place to be over priced, the ribs & tri tip to be extremely tough, almost like shoe leather and the quality of sanitation to be poor. It's also a coffee shop pretending to be a "roadhouse". For the money a better bet would be Frank & Joes Smokehouse around the corner on Colorado or Matt Denny's on Huntington Drive.

PROS: none
CONS: poor quality of food, over priced, dirty

Well, I am not sure I can add much more about this place that hasn't already been said, but here goes anyway. Small place that has some interesting plaques and nostalgia pieces, nothing out of the ordinary but something to look at while you wait for the food. The service for us was probably the best thing here, although they did have Guinness so that adds points for me. The food was really just ok and overpriced. The location is a tiny little place and somehow I think that its a regulars hang out. I didn't exactly hate it, but can't say we will ever plan to go back again. I will agree with 'localfoodie' that they really need to rework the kitchen...maybe then we will give it a try again.

I was just plain disappointed in my dinner at Jakes Roadhouse. It was more like a coffee shop or a small grill than a true roadhouse as I know them. The decor was contrived, the food was mediocre at best and the "bbq" tasted like it was microwaved.

Indifferent service and a truly forgetable dining experience prompted this posting. The ribs were tasteless, regretfully overcooked, under seasoned with a tepid sauce, the "spicy" Texas sausage was one of worst I've had and the cornbread was hard, greasy and inedible. We expected more and were left totally disatisfied. I'm sorry.

PROS: Monrovia's a nice quaint little burb
CONS: Disappointing food

Though the service was friendly that didn't make up for the extremely poor quality of food served. The 3 of us stopped in during the flea market on Friday nite and all thought the meal was horrible. Overcooked ribs, bland sauce and ice cold fries. The tri-tip (dry-tip) sandwich was extremely overcooked and dry. I ordered it med rare and it came out very well done. We may try breakfast someday but will never recommend this place for barbeque.

PROS: nice server
CONS: barbeque menu not good at all

The service is acceptable but the food leaves a lot to be desired. Seemed like a nice place to stop in for a cup of coffee and that was about it. They serve Seattle's Best which is quite good but the food is another story. I tried the Thermal Nuclear burger, ordered it medium rare and it came out well. Definately not hot either. My friend had the baby back ribs and said they were also over cooked. This family restaurant/coffee shop needs to re-work their kitchen.

Drove past Jakes Roadhouse many times before stopping in, i shouldn't have stopped. Probably the worst BBQ I've ever had. This place is nothing but a little coffee shop pretending to make BBQ. The ribs were tough and chewy, the chicken was bloody at the bone and the sauce was weak. My recommendation for excellent BBQ is Frank & Joes Smokehouse & the Claim Jumper, both in Monrovia. Avoid Jakes like the plague.

PROS: no waits here, seating immediately
CONS: tough & chewy ribs, weak sauce & boring sides

I was very disappointed in my experience. The service wasn't bad, a little uppity, but not too bad. The food was bland, the menu was blase and the whole experience was just coffee shop food. The ribs didn't have much of a smoke flavor, were tough and chewy, the chicken was undercooked and the sauce was tepid and boring. I've concluded that this isn't a "roadhouse" but a coffee shop trying to be cute. The mngt should visit the Roadhouse & Lucilles Smokehouse in Long Beach as well as the local Claim Jumper here in Monrovia to see what real bbq is all about.

The place looks pretty good. Has a nice country coffee shop feel to it. Tried the ribs and tri-tip. The ribs could have been more tender. Even with a tug the meat didn't easily come off the bones. The tri tip was over cooked. Ordered it medrare and it came out almost well. That happens sometimes. The let down was in the sauce. It tasted like a came out of a bottle, that processed taste. Bad stuff. I liked the design of the place. Seems like a one of a kind type place. A little better talent in the kitchen should put this place on track.

After 4 visits while we shop the farmers market we've concluded that the food is mediocre at best. Average barbeque at an above average price. I understand they do a decent breakfast, maybe we'll try it. We will take a pass when it comes to barbeque.

We gave them a second chance and still thought this was some of the worst barbeque we've had. No smoke flavor, at least not noticeable, the Texas sausage was definately not a hot link and the place really had no atmosphere to speak of. The salted peanuts were free and very good. Sorry but we can't recommend this place.

Relaxed fun atmosphere. Best BBQ sauce in the world!! Try the tri tip sandwich with fries and get a side of bbq sauce for dipping. Desserts are something special - I recommend the hot apple crisp and peach cobbler.

I am recommending Jake's for its breakfast, simply because I've never been there for lunch or dinner. However, I have been there for breakfast several times. Wow. Jake's has the most delicious pancakes you will EVER have, the lemon-raspberry pancakes. Made with real lemon and raspberries, these breakfast confections are absolutely devine. Also, the passionfruit iced tea is the best iced tea in the area. The staff is wonderfully kind and observant. Eating in the morning on the back patio is one of my favorite weekend treats; I highly recommend breakfast at Jake's.

In Monrovia, there's no place like Jake's. Go in, get a table inside or sit on the front or back patios. Go ahead, throw your peanut shells on the floor, let the kids throw em too! It's all good at Jake's. The back is great if you have kids, theywill gladly turn on the heat lamps for you if it's chilly and no one minds if your little ones can't stay seated. The staff is friendly and wonderful. The food is killer. My husband's favorite is the Spicy Texas Dog and I love the Mushroom Burger. There are mushrooms under the bun and all over the rest of your plate. You can't even get in there on Fridays and Sunday breakfast is like one big family eating together. They catered our son's first birthday party over a year ago and our friends and family STILL rave about how good the food was. Several of them come over just to go to Jake's and pick up the sausages (for the Spicy Texas) to cook and eat at home. See thier menu at http://www.sangabrielvalleymenus.com

Favorite place for breakfast. Not your tradional breakfast place - still has the peanuts on the floor and the smell of barbque. But when they bring the lemon pancakes with rasberry syrup - oh my God! Service is great, everyone is so nice and friendly and they can accommodate big parties out on the patio. A Father's Day tradition in our family.
