Good Food

by Thad S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,801

I go here all the time. I love the outdoor patio and with the heaters set up the outdoor dining experience is always comfortable. The service could be a little better but overall it's pretty good. The Southwest Spring Rolls are to die for and the the soy burger with goat cheese is gross as hell! Breakfast items are great as well as the waffle fries.

OK

by Katherine M. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 314

Food is pretty good. However, inside seating is limited so most seating is outside on the patio. Home allows pets and smoking on the patio. So sometimes it is a nasty environment with slobbering dogs, leaves falling off the trees into your food and cigarette smoke waifing over from the next table. So good food, potential for a cool dining atmosphere but is often ruined by the other guests.

homey comfort food

by Leslie B. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,753

The front coutyard garden with its tree-shaded canopy and gurgling fountain welcomes you as you come "Home" for brunch, lunch, lunch or dinner. I have only been during the day, but I've always been extremely satisfied. Predictable American fare menu but they do what they do well. The weekend woman who manages the tables is efficient and wonderful And the atmosphere can't beat -- the best dappled sunlight in SoCal!

Great brunch spot in Los Feliz

by Andrew S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 741

I just came from my second visit to Home and I've got to say it has become one of my favorite brunch spots - along with Fred 62 - in the Los Feliz area. The food is uniformly good - my wife had a great Turkey burger and I had a great salad. One of my friend's had a great Cobb salad and the coffee was really good. The hostess, who I think must be the owner too, was extremely nice. Perhaps the best feature is the dining patio. It's got a European gone Americana fell. It's very festive and relaxing. My daughter particularly liked the fountain in the middle with all of the toy dinosaurs.

PROS: great patio, good food, friendly atmosphere
CONS: can get crowded, a few too many razor cel phones were on display

Best Service in town!

by creativeali

I just got home from dinner at Home, and it by far had the best service ever. I ordered some pizza, and the waitress thought I said I wanted peppers, not pepperoni, and when they brought it out, and I told them that I don't eat peppers, they were more than happy to accommodate and fix the problem. They brought me out a piping hot fresh pizza within minutes and comp-ed the pizza for me. Everyone that worked there was really friendly, and they refilled our glasses constantly. At the end of the meal, I accidentally left my togo box at the table, and one of the servers chased me down and gave it to me, a block and a half away from the restaurant. I will definitely come back here! =)

Pros: Incredible service, great food, great ambiance

Cons: Smoking outside

Go with the original

by txwno

This restaurant is known for good food at good prices. It's also known for long lines. A lot of us were excited when they opened a second location on Fletcher and Riverside. Trust me, it's better to wait on the hot sidewalk. It's amazing that the same concept and menu can be so different. The problem is the service. I've been in there twice and it is unreal that so many employees cannot take care of a few tables. One thing you see at the original location is a manager walking around. No such luck at the new spot. Maybe that's why there is no direction.

Pros: Good food and service at original location

Cons: You can't duplicate sometimes. New spot is bad.

HORRIBLE Customer Service, Food was Average

by greennanny

We ordered two salads, chocolate cake and lemonade for delivery the other night. The initial phone order was met with a rushed and an unpleasant voice and two returning phone calls by the staff. The second call was regarding our order, somehow they misplaced our order and the third phone call was asking for our credit card info again. We were told our food was on the way. Great. However, an hour and a half later we were still waiting for our two salads. When they finally showed up we were so excited about the bag of food that we failed to notice we never received our lemonade. Yet another phone call was made and we were told the delivery driver forgot and would turn around. About 20 minutes later ANOTHER phone call was made to inform us the delivery driver was too busy to bring our lemonade so next time we come in to the restaurant we can have two free lemonades... WTF?!? They charged our credit card, took nearly 2 hours and 5 phone calls to deliver two vegetarian salads and piece of chocolate cake 2 miles from their restaurant and refused to credit our card the $6 for the lemonade? Never again.

Pros: It's right down the street from Alcove and Mustard Seed so you can support those restaurants instead

Cons: HORRIBLE SERVICE, Average Food, did I mention HORRIBLE SERVICE?

Good food, run away if they are busy

by FilmguyJon

Went to Home a few weeks ago on a Sunday evening. I ordered the almond chicken salad sandwich on a crescent roll. It took forever to get my food and the waiter had to go back into the kitchen and resubmit the order. When the food did arrive it was fantastic and I would order it again. Because of the delay the waiter was nice enough to comp my meal and even tossed in a free dessert. I would recommend Home, just avoid it when they are really busy.

Pros: Great food, very cool patio.

Cons: The wait for your food if they are busy.

wait staff needs to pick up the pace!!

by nicnic33

I went to Home for the first tine last night with my boyfriend and our 2 friends. Upon arrival I was very pleased - I had never heard of it and didn't know what to expect. It reminds me of the restaurant at the pirates of the caribbean in Disneyland. We were Seated almost immediately. But that's as far as the good service went. Although our waiter was friendly, we waited at least 10 minutes before we even had our drink order taken. By that time we had all decided what we wanted. After about 5 minutes we started to wonder where the drinks were. When we got the attention of our waiter, it still took a few more minutes to get a soda and a simple mixed drink to our table. When the food arrived there were 3 dishes placed on our table - and there were four people in our party. The waiter didn't even acknowledge that my boyfriend's meal was missing. He just ordered a sausage omlett. The waiter never came around to ask how everything was so we got the attention of the hostess and let her know we were missing some food. 15 minutes later, a pasta dish arrived. Obviously not what we expected. it took another 15 minutes for his actual dish to come out. They didn't even put the peppers on the side like he asked.

I got the caramelized apple salad with chicken which i enjoyed, and i tasted my friend's ravioli. Now THAT was incredible. I would come back only for that reason. All in all it was a frustrating experience. I'll give it one more chance eventually, but if i get the same service again they'll be losing a few customers.

Pros: ravioli is to die for, great ambiance

Cons: service was terrible

Comfort Food

by bunny323

The food is delicious, but should be served with a heart monitor! Yummy comfort food.... so don't plan on counting calories here. Also, most of the restaurant is outside. Which on a warm summer day is nice, but at any other time can be somewhat annoying.

Pros: Yummy food

Cons: Outside

Great place, great ambience, and terrific food. Its a worthwhile visit in the summers when its warmer to be seated in their outdoor patio area and watch the cars go by. Lovely and cozy restaurant with great service.

I love home!

by nicolaj

I've been going to home for over 5 years now and it's one of my favorite lunch spots in LA. The patio is absolutely wonderful. I always seem to get the same things every time, either the veggie wrap or the breakfast burrito, every time. I go there to relax knowing that on the weekends there may be a wait, for everything. But the staff is always smiling and friendly. I love to take out of town guests here! Thanks Home!

Wonderful Menu, Breathtaking Ambiance

by eclecticcollector

Mmmm.. Just thinking about this wonderful, comfort food place makes me want to snuggle up next to someone I love. This place has it all: Unpretentious atmosphere? check. Varied food choices that make deciding on just one thing harder each time you glance at the menu? Check. Scrumptious and delightfully good food that makes you forget about your day? Check and check. A luscious green plant laden exterior and a comfortably decorated interior, this place is the total package and more.

The only thing that I have a slight con about is the reservation policy. After making reservations for my birthday party two days prior for 14 people, I assumed that they would be ready for us once the time had arrived. I even called the restaurant to confirm earlier in the day of the party. However, once I arrived at Home no one seemed to know about the reservation. Fortunately, this was rectified and our party was seated. They went out of their way to move tables and chairs for our up most comfort.

That is why this place deserves the ranking that I gave it. Good food. Good service. Seeing a problem and fixing it for the comfort of everyone involved. That is the service level that a good restaurant offers when it cares about the customer. And this is what Home offered me.

Go there and experience it for yourself.

Pros: Food and decor

Cons: Street parking in Los Feliz

Fun place, big menu

by whitemeatnugs

I went to Home with my parents, and two friends. We all got completely different things from the menu, and as far as I remember, it was all pretty dang good! The price seemed pretty reasonable, and I liked that you could get fries or salad with your meal. The portions were fairly large. I took some home for lunch the next day, while my friend "T" managed to eat all of hers. Even big appetites will get filled. They have a full bar, and their patio looks awesome! I came during the winter though, so we sat inside. I plan on going again now that it's starting to warm up. It looks like a great place to relax. Just like Home. Ahhh, I get it! :)

Pros: big menu, patio

Cons: parking

HOME....sweet home...

by lovechow

Bohemian and tasty Los Feliz find... and my new favorite place to eat breakfast. The sizeable hungry crowd waiting outside drew our attention to Home initially.; however, despite said crowd, the wait was bearable and once inside, quite worth it. The outside seating area is bustling, charming and cozy.. heated by lamps in the winter enabling outdoor seating in most weather. Although much of the menu is sinful comfort food at first glance, there are many healthful choices mixed in. One of the better egg white (and custom tailored) omelettes I have had lately. While the service wasn't necessarily the quickest I have experienced, it was most importantly attentive and friendly and overall, appropriate in light of the number of people dining.

If the delicious treats don't lure you by themselves...definitely visit for the ambience unfound in most other hollywood area restaurants.

Pros: unique ambience and great menu

Cons: parking can be a bit tough to find on a weekend morning...

Good wholsome food in a great atmosphere!

by mkek

This is such a southern cali. spot. THe dining room is outdoors with tree's surround you. Feels like you are eating in someone's backyard or in a tree house. We ordered the almond tuna sanwich which came with crisp cut fries and I had the blue cheese burger. The tuna sandwich had a tremendous amount of flavor and the burger was adequete. THe prices are reasonable and service was good. I did feel bad for the people sitting next to us. They waited probably 20 minutes to order.

Favorite Restaurant in the Neighborhood

by chachartis

This place is a hidden gem. No joke. How I could have lived in L.A. and not been here sooner?? Great lunch, great breakfast, great dinner. The servers are chill and friendly and even suggested a couple of other places we might like in L.A. if we liked Home. How cool is that! I gotta get there when it rains-- if it's raining they offer some deal like buy one get one free for entree or half off the second one or something cool. Thanks Home Staff!

Pros: Service, Food, Patio

Cons: can't think of any

Lives up to its title - with a touch more style

by alisonkramer

I LOVE this place. Good portions of comfort food at reasonable prices without the gritty feel of a crowded diner. Set against a tastefully landscaped brick patio, the novel-like menu leaves nothing to be desired. I recommend the chicken curry wraps (which can be made into a salad), the fun assortment of burgers and grilled sandwiches, or the pizzas. It somehow feels less pretentious than some of its neighbors - maybe because it really truly feels like "Home."

Pros: Food, Patio Dining, Prices

Cons: Sometimes a wait, no bar.

The place to take people you actually like.

The menu is for everyone, from omlets and salads to burgers and pizza. Yes, the service is slow. Take the extra time to enjoy the garden setting, not to mention your friends' company. Both the servers and regulars are nice, smiley people. Try being one of them.

Pros: The food and the trees.

Cons: Not the place to go if you're in a hurry.

Idyllic brunch spot

by roboxtravaganza

The first thing about Home is that it is beautiful. The front garden is lovely (check out the secret tables perched above the main area. The booths are private and the wait staff and the hostess (who I believe owns it) are accomodating and warm. The food is good too- I recommend the Healthy Egg White Omelette, the Turkey Reuben, and any veggie sandwich, breakfast burrito or salad. The waffle fries are tempting but always leave you with a stomach ache (I've compared notes with my dining companions)- I always order them anyway. The turkey burger isn't worth it. Incredible shakes and a good tea selection compliment the meal. But NOTHING compares to the atmosphere...it's a Los Feliz gem!

Pros: ATMOSPHERE, food, great staff

Cons: a little pricey

Home isnt where the service is...

by jwallace28

Lethargic staff + smokers + below average food = Home

We sat down next to the active Koi pond. 10 mins later someone asked us what we wanted to drink. 10 mins after that the drinks arrived. Next we ordered our food and began the wait. still waiting....wait wait wait. after 20 or so the food was brought out. normally 20 mins isnt that bad but it was for a veggie wrap and a cold steak sandwich. needless to say our drinks were finished by that time. all we wanted to do was leave at this point so we got the check and i put my card in the folder and once again the wait began....After hearing alot of hype about this place i must say the service was a joke and if it wasnt for the Koi pond we would have "left Home" a long time ago.

Pros: Vanilla cappucino, Koi pond

Cons: service, smokers

Sit and Relax! It will be a while, but worth it.

by sapphire27

I've been coming to Home for years now. Almost every weekend. Comfortable place to sit outdoors & have a decent meal. Good food w/ large menu--recently new choices added. They've recently done some changes to decor, & it looks better than ever.

This is place you have to love it for its eccentricity & quirks. The service can be slow or ultra fast. The food is great, but rarely find an added or a missing ingredient in their dish (fixed quickly.) The atmosphere keeps me coming back; the people & place is unique & relaxing.

Small children love hanging around the fountain and observing the fish & plastic dinosaurs.

Groups: Friend had her bridal shower here. Nice. We were in a pretty backroom (not in the garden) w/ plenty of room. They also have another room w/ comfy chairs that has an old den/library feel--good for drinks/cocktails.

Pros: Dog friendly, Fountain, Garden

Cons: Crowded for Brunch

WORST SERVICE!

by ratchle

The service at this place is atrocious! I've been here more than a couple of times and have had BAD service everytime. -at first I thought it was a fluke but then realized that they have no standards when it comes to service. I watched the cooks, wait staff and manager all hangout in front of the restaurant smoking and chatting it up during sunday brunch while people all around me sat waiting waiting for 45 minutes for a bill! for checks, food, etc.... my food was delivered cold and I'll never go back. ....who cares if there's a garden. This was honestly my worst dining experience in LA.

You Can't Go Wrong

by tychovski

I've eaten here many times, I bring friends and family here, I have never been dissapointed. The parking is abysmal, and the food is expensive - but worth every penny. The waitstaff are very friendly, the food is presented well and the servings are plentiful. I have dined there for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the menu provides enough healthy variety for any situation or diner. Eating outdoors in California is a wonderful experience, and Home provides for this. An enclosed courtyard seats many people, with the plants, birds, fish, fountain and music providing the perfect backdrop for any meal, any patron.

Pros: Ambiance, Outdoor

Cons: Parking, Crowded

by sweetpeasugar

I liked the atmosphere, but I was rather put off by our waitress. When we ordered, she gave us strange looks as if to ask, "You're ordering THAT?!" Then, she brought us the wrong fries and screwed up one of our meals. The food was so-so. I don't understand what everyone's raving about.

Marooned at Home

by boopsushi

The courtyard is a great place to sit and relax but even that wears thin as you grow faint from hunger and dehydration. When you are finally noticed and served you eat the food quickly and hungrily which is better - you don't have time to notice how truly mediocre the food really is.

Pros: Outside Dining, Relaxed

Cons: SLOW Service

Home...delivered to your home!

by leighniles_citysearch

Not to be cliché, but Home really does feel like home. You feel like you're in someone's backyard on the patio. Everything I've tried here is tasty; and between me and my boyfriend, we've tried about everything. My favorite is the ahi tuna sandwich and those thick fries that come with it. There's nothing better on a Sunday afternoon (when you don't feel like getting off the couch) than to call up Home and have them deliver the goods to you.

The food was great and plentiful. We had planned on desert but we were so full from our meal that we decided to come back another day.
