This Chinese restaurant, Hunan Home's Restaurant can hold upto 80 people in their banquet room. Serving appetizers, soups, fowl and beef entrees, this restaurant also serves seafood dishes. Guests get a choice of different kinds of fried rice, ranging from chicken fried rice to shrimp fried rice and a selection of chow mein dishes.
I don't know what others say about this restaurant, but i know that the food is just great and i get huge portions for my price. I'm to this restaurant and every time i'm in Chinatown, i have to grab some lunch at Hunan Home Restaurant. The food is apetizing and just incredible, and i can always count on a good time eating here. I highly recoomend everyone try this place out because i know Hunan style and this place is great.
Pros: great food, affordable prices, good ambience

Hunan Home is a great place to sit back and enjoy traditional Hunan food. The prices are reasonable. The restaurant has great customer service and wonderful food. I would recommand this place for families to enjoy dinner together.
Pros: Reasonable price, Good parking, Great for families

Hunan Home is basically a slightly above average Hunan styled Chinese restaurant located in Chinatown taking advantage of the hype that surrounds it. How the place ever got the hype is the mystery to me.
The food is good, but definitely not much better than your favorite Hunan styled Chinese restaurant back home. Portions are not particularly large and prices are not cheap. I honestly didn't see the reason for the hype.
Cons: , small portions

We have dining at Hunan Homes for the past 11 years. We feel like family around them. We are very picky eaters and found thier entrees to be the best. Thier service is excellent (Thier Mama with a big smile), food is superb (especially Sizzling Bean curd) is superb, cleanliness is really wonderful(condiment bottles not stcky). They do not talk over your food. All in all this is our favorite restaturant

WOW!! I never have such tasty food in my life, what a nice restaurant, they provid the best service to all the customer there, we feel like having dinner at home with our family!! I love you HUNAN HOME'S RESTAURANT.
Pros: Inexpensive, good location, good for party

Hunan Home's was recommended by my hotel and was exactly what I was looking for. I was seated promptly. The wait staff was attentive and helped explain dishes and made recommendations. The food was very good. I had the prawns in black bean sauce and the spring rolls. Both came out very quickly. Good selection of food especially Hunan Style. Atmosphere kind of plain, but clean. You can't go wrong at Hunan Home's. Good for single, couples and small groups. Tea included, rice extra. Not expensive. Major Credit Cards accepted.
Pros: Good Service, Good Food, Good value

I have been searching for a solid, high quality chinese restaurant in China Town - and this is it. I have had a variety of menu items and each thing has been consistently great. The meat and seafood are fresh and of good quality (unlike many restaurants in China Town). The spices and flavors are unique in that they are not masked by heavy bland sauces. The servers are attentive and friendly and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a high quality experience in China Town.
Pros: consistent quality, tasty food, extensive menu

We go to Hunan Home's at least once a month, sometimes once a week! Love the food--no grease; great flavors. Love the fish tank (check out the baby longhorn cowfish!). Love the kitschy Chinese ambience, complete with tinkly Chinese muazk. Don't change a thing! This is the place we take Midwestern family members to make them understand Chinese food isn't all about frozen wontons and microwaved potstickers served in an all U Can Eat Buffet...and the place we go when we have a large group of friends and want to eat good but cheap.
Pros: Great food, Quick service, The Fish Tank!!

Hunan Homes is One of the very BEST Chinese Restaurants in the City and the Bay Area. Zagot's rating for this WONDERFUL Chinese Restaurant is that the Food is Very Delicious and the Service is Very Friendly; which can be rare for a Chinese Restaurant in general. James and his Staff are Friendly; Gracious and most Helpful. The Best Dishes are the Seafood Dishes. The CRAB DISHES are FABULOUS!!:} as well as the Smoked Hunan Pork and the Honey Glazed Walnut Prawns and the TOFU with the Special Sauce. This is a Must when visiting our Fair City.
Pros: ALL AROUND GREAT!, REASONABLE PRICES, FREE PARKING
Cons: REMODEL BATHROOMS

My husband bought me there and I liked it. I recommended to my friends for a lunch group meeting. Everybody liked it and I felt so proud. The price is inexpensive. We couldn't believe our bill at the first time. Now it's a place we meet often for lunch. Their lunch special is really a good deal.
Pros: Good Taste, Good Price

I logged on to Citysearch to find a Chinese restaurant. I read some reviews of Hunan Home and thought I would give it a shot... thank you for the recommendation! It was delicious! Usually when I order spicy Chinese food, it's greasy because of the hot oil they use... this was perfect! I highly recommend giving this a shot. Portions were perfect and food was great! Although the decor needs a little help... it's good eats!
Pros: not greasy, $30 average for 2
Cons: casual

First of all I'm Chinese and I need not to look at any reviews as pointers to restaurants. Many of the places that have garnered good reviews are actually crap. My family has been dining out here at Hunan's Home for over 15 years. The service has always been courteous and quick. This place has one of the best pot stickers (6 per order) and hot&sour soup served in town. For main entrees, try *Sizzling Prawns with Special Hunan Sauce* in a sizzling platter; *Hunan Twice-Cooked Pork with Cabbage*; *Whole Chicken with Ginger and Green Onions*. Those who don't savor spicy food should like *Sizzling Rice Soup*. The restaurant does make dishes less spicy or not spicy at all.
Pros: Food, Service
Cons: Always packed

I've had lunch here twice in the past 2 weeks. Hard to find a better value in SF. Great spicy food, Mongolian Beef and Hunan Chicken. Fast seating, prompt sevice, a full water glass. Lunch for 2 with tax and tip $12 - can't beat that.
Pros: great food, inexpensive, fast service

This place rocks! Awesome service, none of the typical big city attitude, waitstaff all worked together to make everything go smothly, very very friendly, cozy atmosphere. We showed up late and even at the end of the night the place was spotless. Food was OUTSTANDING and was the least expensive meal we had in the city over a three day weekend!
Pros: Fast Service, Friendly, Great Value

Hunan Home's is a wonderful place to get great chinese food and excellent service with a smile. If you are a repeat customer, the staff will remember you and treat you accordingly. My boyfriend and I have become regulars and always ask the waiters what they recommend. We've never been disappointed!!
Pros: Inexpensive, friendly, authentic
Posted 01/14/03
Alright, not spectacular. Some of the food was good, some kind of bland. The service was okay. I took a large group there and was overcharged for some of the food.
Posted 01/09/03
The staff are always friendly and pleasant. The restaurant is clean with nice linen table cloths and napkins. And the prices are reasonable.

We have been going here for fifteen years and the food never varies and is top quality. This is the first place we head when we visit The City. The surroundings are very nice and service friendly. We once lived in The City and everyone we took there thought it was great!
Pros: Inexpensive, Consistant

Hunan Home is the best Hunan Style chinese food among those in the Bayarea. They have the delicious Hot & Sour Soup, Walnut prawns & very special Tea smoked duck. The price is very reasonable & if you stop by chinatown next time, don't miss out Hunan Home. It's been highly recommended by myself & other friends.
Pros: Delicious Food, Excellent Service, Reasonable price

my first date was at that resturant it was so good. i had a wonderful time. gambler took me there and we both loved the place and all the waitress were great.

Went on a Saturday night at 7:20p. We ordered 6 dishes, including a yummy whole braised cod, and we were outta there by 8:00p. All the food came up in about 10 minutes and still tasted fresh. The orange peel chicken was excellent! Will be back!
Posted 11/04/02
There are no chickens hanging in the windows, but this is authentic Chinese food and very tasty! The service was prompt and efficient. We'll definitely go back.
Posted 10/15/02
My husband and I go here frequently, mostly for take-out but when we do dine, the service is always wonderful and the food very good. The hot and sour soup is the best I've tasted.
Posted 10/12/02
Have been dining at this restaurant for over 10 years -- good place to bring out of town guests, particularly those not accustomed to Chinese food. Service is always good and prices are reasonable. Cuisine is fairly authentic and very good. Try the eggplant with spicy garlic sauce or any of the seafood dishes.
Pros: good service, inexpensive, garage nearby
Cons: noisy at peak times
Posted 10/11/02
When I first got to SF, I wanted a good Chinese restaurant to go to. EVERYONE recommended this place. The food's not bad, but not exceptional either. Average at best. Too much hoopla about this place.
Pros: Good Service, Inexpensive
Cons: Average Food, Weak Tea, Shabby Decor

We recently visited San Francisco for the first time and wanted authentic Chinese food. We went to the Hunan Home Restaurant, and it was great! The food was wonderful and the service was awesome! I would recomend it to anyone looking for good, authentic Chinese food in San Francisco

this place has great chinese food (huge menu), friendly and attentive waitstaff, and great value. hunan home is the best place to bring your 12 best friends, have good food, drink lots of beer, have a blast and not leave feeling hungry or with an empty wallet.
Pros: value, waitstaff, no wait
Posted 09/20/02
I found the food to be very good. I didn't care for the lack of parking. I was forced to look for a parking space for about 1/2 hour. But it was worth it. I found it hard to talk to my friend in the restaurant. With the high ceilings sounds traveled effortlessly. BUT I would go back at the drop of a hat
Pros: great food!, Inepensive, nice folks
Cons: bad for parking, noisy

I had lunch with visiting relatives at Hunan Home and was pleasantly surprised. It's good food on Formica tabletops. My relatives don't eat pork or shellfish, so we limited our choices to a deep-fried bean curd appetizer and three styles of chicken. The bean curd was a little bland (the crust didn't absorb the dipping sauce) but the chicken dishes were excellent. The service was fast and friendly.
Pros: fast, good value, tasty
Cons: small
Posted 09/11/02
The dining room is clean and cosy, food is very tasty and service is remarkably professional and attentive. I would recommend Hunan Home's to all my friends anytime because I think it's simply the best Chinese restaurant I have ever been to in bay area.

This is a gread restaurant, their staff are most helpful and attentive, food are delicious, I'd recommended this restaurant to my friend and co-workers, have fun and enjoy a fine hunan cuisine.

Hunan Homes Restuarant has truly one of the most spectacular service and extremely delicious food. Their host and waiters have great manners and serves me and my family well with polite orders and gives great suggestions. They make you feel at home with their warm welcomes and the host James is truly an outstanding host with his funny jokes. Hunan Home is the best out of the best; no other can compete.
Pros: good service, feels welcome, great food
Posted 08/30/02
We came here based on the rave reviews. Boy what a mistake! Service and atmosphere were good, but I'd trade them in any day for great food. We tried (can't remember exact names) spicy eggplant, spicy garlic chicken, beef w/ Chinese broccoli, mixed meat chow mein, and wor wonton soup. The entrees seemed re-heated, not cooked-to-order, and compromised to appeal to the Panda Express crowd. $9.75 wonton soup wasn't worth it. With so many great Asian restaurants in the Bay Area and LA County, this falls way short.
Pros: Friendly & cheerful, Reasonable price
Cons: Mediocre food

I live a few block from Chintowna and have tried most of the restaraunts there and Hunan Homes is definately number one or two. Great service, decent prices, fresh food...you can't go wrong!

My favorite Chinese in the City! I love Hunan Home! I highly recommend ANY of the sizzling dishes, Orange Peel Chicken too. I have to say, I have never had a bad meal here!
Posted 08/15/02
What a fun place to enjoy an wide menu of fresh seafood and poultry seven days a week. Bored of the North Beach ? Head south on Kearney and walk over to Hunan Home. The menu is consistent and I highly reccomend the Wor Wonton Soup. I try and make an attempt everytime I bring my friends to SF.

Consistently Excellent quality, and quantity. Just like China! Great service and well priced.
Pros: Great staff, consistently good, clean!
Cons: No parking

I'll bet I've sent 100s' of people traveling from Florida to San Francisco to Hunan Home Restaurant. All of them said it was the "Real Deal" and thanked me. Just too far(3500miles)from Florida. Wish they would relocate!!!!
Pros: soups, sauces, employees
Cons: none

I had lunch at Hunan Home yesterday for the first time, and it was a fantastic experience. Owner, James, was welcoming and cheery, obviously taking pride in his popular establishment. The walnut prawns were the best I've had, the chicken and asparagus in black bean sauce lean and tasty. This Chinatown favorite is truly a treat. I cannot wait to go back with friends!
Pros: reasonable prices, food quality

Hunan Home's Restaurant has the best Chinese in SF. My husband and I enjoy it so much that we dine there at least 3 timesa month. The food, service and experience are superb. Can't go wrong with this one! Among our favs on the menu: Hot and Sour Soup, Mushu, Hunan Chicken, Fried prawns with walnuts, sizzling beef hot plate, snow pea leaves (seasonal).
Posted 08/06/02
This was my first time at this restaurant, but my group had a wonderful time. The food was excellent, as well as the rice wine, and we had great service. I'd recommend it to anyone, and will try the Los Altos location soon!
Posted 08/02/02
Hunan Home has the best hot and sour soup I've had anywhere! It is consistently better than any other restaurant around.
I find that the lunch dishes at Hunan Home are much more flavorful than other restaurants too. It's not the spiciest around, but definitely the most flavorful.
Pros: Great Flavor, Good prices, Great service
Cons: Sometimes full

Lunch at noon in San Francisco can be a challange.
This place will fit you in. Good, authentic eating with the locals - what more can i say.
Ok ok $5 for lunch---
Try it.
Pros: great food, no MSG, Open at Nooon
Cons: basic room, basic basement

We highly recommend this restaurant. The food was excellent and plentiful. The server was cheerful, humorous and entertaining. We will come back any time we're in the area.

This is a restaurant where I eat several times a week and never tire of either the food or the service. They are consistently speedy at lunch, understanding most people are on short lunch hours. At dinner, the service is still prompt, but less rushed, and the atmosphere is "nicer" (cloth napkins and such). Either way, the food is extremely good and the prices quite reasonable.
Posted 07/31/02
As a caterer and chef I can honestly say that this is one of my all time favorite restaurants. The owners greet you like long last family everytime you come in, giving you the highest degree of friendly personal attention, even if it has been months since you have been in. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, every different is different and unique. Not sure what to order, ask for James or one of his family, tell them what you like and how hungry you are, and let them do the ordering for you. You will have one of the best meals of your life.
Pros: great service, personable staff, wonderful food
Cons: none

One of my middle school friends who have moved to L.A. in 1984 would actually fly to S.F. to meet me at Hunan Home for one meal and fly back on the same afternoon. How crazy is that??? He is planning another day trip in August....and guess where we are going to meet at
Posted 07/30/02
The food is great and a great value. The service is one of the best things about the place. It's perfect for large parties. I like it, yes I do.
Posted 07/30/02
This is the best resturant so far in my life. Never have those service and food can find in other resturant in China Town. Every time when I visit San Francisco, that is the first place I have to visited.
