A group of six joined me for what was one of the best dining experiences I have ever enjoyed.

From the scallop appetizer to the enormous "rib eye" steak everything was wonderful. They even prepared a special veggan dish for my girl friend who does not eat meat or fish. A wonderful experience and the place maybe the most beautiful rooms we have ever visited. WOW WOW. what a great place. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

This was our first experience at the Madison. Being part of the 94.7 Sunday Brunch was just an added bonus. From the Valet service, Seating Hostess, and Serving Staff we could give nothing but praise. We were celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary which was made even more special in the entire experience. Thank you all for a relaxing, professional though not stuffy Sunday brunch. The cost was well worth the entire brunching experience. The Madison is on our list to return for another brunch or possibly dining enjoyment.

Our dinner at The Madison was enjoyable in every regard. The food (we both had the Beef Wellington) was delicious, the service efficient and attentive and the ambience spectacular. Located in a former bank, the high decorated ceilings, chandeliers and wood paneling make for a magnificent setting. And their signature dessert, The Madison Piano, is not only almost too beautiful to eat, but too delicous not to!

Every year I take my family to this majestic restaurant. It has only gotten better on each visit. The Beef Wellington is delightful. The meat is tender and the crust is flakey, just perfect. Suprisingly the mac and cheese has turned out to be my favorite side dish. I really enjoy the salad with bleu cheese crumbles and apples with glazed walnuts. The manager remembers each of our names and treats us like royalty. The Madison has charm not found in the chain restaurants. The decor is classy with the high ceilings and beautiful chandeliers. I can't wait until our next visit

A True Dining Experience

I took my family and guests from New York to the Madison 3 weeks ago on a Friday evening Oct. 10, 2008 for my wife's 30th birthday. When we arrived we were in awe of the beauty of this gorgeous restaurant.

We ordered champagne and each of us ordered a different appetizer so we could all sample the menu, I must say I thought I was back in NY the food and presentations were so good. We then ordered our salads, I had a wonderful tomato with gorg. cheese it was fantastic.

The entree stole the show we had the porterhouse for two and the bone in ribeye for two, simply delicious.

The total dining experience was a 10 with only one small issue, it took about 20 min from our salads to the serving of the entrees but we truly enjoyed this jewel of a place.

I highly recommend this restaurant if you really are looking for a dining experience.

I wish I would have read these reviews before I decided to take my family here. I would have NEVER gone...only two good reviews (probably by the managers) and the rest right in line with what I experienced! Decor is beautiful, the wine list is amazing. HOWEVER, those two things cannot makeup for the horrible service and so-so food. All of our steaks were overcooked so i'd suggest to order accordingly and don't go starving to death because you'll wait a good 45 min for your appetizers to arrive. If you're going to go despite these reviews I would suggest making an online reservation to avoid the snotty girl who answers the phones!

The Madison is located in an old converted back. The ceilings are incredible, along with the wall decor (a great mural takes up the whole back wall). The atmosphere here can't be beat. When you walk in the door, it takes you back a second. It's just incredible. Also, the food is amazing. My husband had a steak and he said it melted in his mouth. I had the roasted chicken, and it was not only incredible, but the portion size was huge! The manager, Patrick, treated us like he's known us for years. On one particular visit, we were celebrating my in laws anniversary, and Patrick had a cake and candles brought out to the table. This is a pricey place, and we save it for special occasions.

When you walk into The Madison, a mainstay in the Downtown Long Beach restaurant scene for quite some time now, the first thing you'll do is look left, right, and then up. To your left is a man playing standards softly on a baby grand (Fridays at 7:30pm, by the way). To your right is the giant bar, in all wood. Finally above you, is perhaps the hallmark of the restaurant's décor. The high ceilings will leave you in awe, but those aren't the only things; three chandeliers hang elegantly from the three separate dining areas. The waiters are smartly dressed, and rightly so; judging from the décor, you shouldn't expect anything less. The service is professional, with the waiters taking the orders and attendants keeping your glass full at an acceptable and capricious rate. The first thing to note is that the seafood here is not recommended. I don't feel I need to provide a reason, but the reason you'd come here would be for the chops and steaks. We ordered, in order of appearance: Clam Chowder (soup of the day), Madison Special Mashed Potatoes, Steamed Seasonal Vegetables, Asparagus, Rib-Eye Steaks, and Crème Brûlée. To begin with the clam chowder, it could have been better. The briny taste of the clams was prevalent as ever, depending if you like that sort of thing. The texture was a tad gummy-thick. The friend who ordered it couldn't finish. The Madison Special Mashed Potatoes are a tad heavy. Proceed with caution. The ribeye is nothing short of excellent. The meat is brimming with flavor, and the red wine-feta sauce provided only interferes with the taste of a truly sublime steak. The crème was standard, served with a ladyfinger. Intriguing was the fresh-pressed coffee. What this does to the actual flavor I haven't the slightest, but it is pressed tableside, and the coffee, regardless of any questionable preparation, is excellent. A very good experience.

Pros: Food is excellent, Beautiful room, Service does its job

Cons: Watch out for parking; it's a bit tough in these parts. I'd opt for the $7 valet, much more convenient.

It is unfortunate that the service is so terrible at The Madison since the food is so good. The good food can't out-weigh the very snobbish, rude service received. We ordered drinks at our table and waited 40 minutes for them and then received our entrees an hour after ordering. During this time we were treated very poorly by the waiter. When complaining the management on our way out - he too was rude and didn't care about the complaint.
I would not recommend going to this restaurant and paying their prices for this treatment.

my husband and i dined here for our anniversary the restaurant is beautiful but not worth the high price. the "special table" given to us was right next to the area where waiters were getting flatware and napkins. the noise of silverware every 2 minutes put a damper on the evening. for the price i found the food bland. Also we were overcharged on the bill. my husband didnt want to make a big deal that evening since we were celebrating out anniversary but did call the restaurant. the person he spoke with was very unsympathetic to the fact that we were overcharged $10 on our bill....her excuse was that they just recently raised the prices on their menu and had forgotten to update all of the menus in the restaurant. what a disappointment the evening was.....especially for a special occasion.

For what presents itself as such a high-end restaurant, I found the food to be quite mediocre. Excellent and creative selections, yes, but excecution & presentation were lacking. Food not hot enough. However, my 2 guests proclaimed they loved it and that it was a "perfect choice" for dinner. What they REALLY thought I shall never know.

While appetizers are good - the foie gras and mussels being very good, the entrees are nothing special. Steak is flavorful but overcooked and the sole is too lemony and dry. The dessert is slightly more inventive but presentation is poor - ice cream was served melted. This could be due to the very slow service.

I went to The Madison for lunch...not sure if the less experienced wait staff works during the day. We were one of just two other tables dining in this huge place but the service was still slow and apathetic.
The food was ok. I had the corn-breaded lobster sandwich. Didn't taste the lobster as much as I did the thick corn breading around it. Way too fried and greasy...and this is coming from someone who loves anything fried and greasy. The tomato-basil soup, which came highly recommended, was acidic. The surroundings, however, are beautiful. The restaurant occupies what was once a HUGE bank. There is an elegant bar, and from what I understand, live music at night. A lovely backdrop for a business lunch, a romantic evening or just a cocktail with friends...if the service and quality of the food improved, I would be a big fan.

I took my wife's mother and father out to dinner one night at the Madison, and they are picky. They loved everything. The food was perfect, just as we ordered it. Bob the manager was always around. They don't have a wine list, they have a wine book with anything you could want. It is a elegant restaurat so dress well, then sit back and soak it in.
