I'm a big REI fan -- they have high quality items and great service. This particular location has a great selection of women's clothing items -- both sports related as well as fashionable items you could wear daily. I've gotten several presents for friends and family at the store that were big hits. I also recently went in to find great ski socks for the family and the person working in the ski gear section was so helpful -- he asked a lot of pertinent questions before making a recommendation on the right brand and weight. The socks are amazing -- when we used them on the next ski trip, no one complained about cold, wet feet (that's a record!).

REI is a great place to get camping gear, hiking gear, bicycling supplies, backpacks, casual clothing and shoes. If you're still able to ski you can buy or rent your skis at REI. You can also rent camping supplies.

As a member of REI, you will receive 10% of your full price purchases from the previous year in the form of a rebate check in the mail in January.

REI offers trips and classes.

REI's staff are all active people who participate in sports.

Each time I have visited this store which was right down the street from where I worked, I received prompt, courteous, professional customer service. Some of the employees are extremely knowledgeable of the backroads of the bay area which are extensive indeed. It would be very difficult to walk around for any length of time without somebody asking you if you needed assistance. The biggest drawback shopping at REI are the prices. Many of the high ticket items from Patagonia, Columbia, Timberland, and others are very expensive. They try to offset this with REI's own brand of clothing and gear, but even then, the prices are still a bitter pill to swallow for poor students like me but the quality is usually good.

Although there selection of sporting goods is fine, I would not enter this San Carlos store again. The last time I was there, and waiting in the check out line, a 6 feet barge pole fell on my head. The pole was propped up without being held properly and all of a sudden it fell on my head from nowhere and knocked me off. Other than fellow customers, no one from the store came to my rescue. It was kind of a fellow customer to finally call a floor staff who just wrote an incident report and told me that someone would follwoup. No one ever did. I stayed with a big bump on my head for several days and went and got myself checked out with a doctor. I called back the store again and they did not have anyone to talk to me that day and told me that some one would be calling me again. As expected no one did. Now I have a child and having experienced their safety standards I would not go there ever again, especially with my child. be ware before you go there. There are so many other places to find sporting goods that I am fine not having to go there.
