Great Camera Repair Shop  5 Star Rating - World class

Now with the throwaway economy....it is truly difficult to find a technician who can repair fine electronic camera equipment. I found the tech here!!!

Apollo Camera can fix just about any electronic camera and has done so for me on two occassions.

Fine work, priced fair, highly recommended by this Alameda California resident.

Worst Camera Repair Shop in the Bay Area  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

Literally the worse experience I have ever had with a store of any kind. It as been three months since I came in and they have not even ordered the replacement part for my lense yet.

I came to the shop at the suggestion of a friend 3 months ago with a broken lense. They said the estimated repair to the existing parts would be $90, unless the entire motor needed to be replaced. They told me they'd call back in a week. 2 weeks later I came back to the shop and the man said that he needed to order the part as the initial repair did not work. I said ok (not sure why they never called and told me this, I had to call and leave a message and then come in after not receiving a reply after several days). Another 2 weeks later I called in to see what the story was, and no one picked up. I know for a fact that they have my phone number, as the last time I made it in there I made sure it was correct and he assured me he would call when it was ready. I first took the lense in early October, and I went back in today (Mid-January) and they have NOT EVEN ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT PART YET. To make matters worse, he said he'll need another week to put it back together so I can take my business elsewhere.

in response to previous rating  5 Star Rating - World class

this person gave Apollo Camera in Oakland a bad review simply because he/she (why do I think it is a he?) likes to flame, but is entirely off base. Clearly the East Bay, weekend traffic, which is always very bad, is this person's real woe, and not the fact that he found the place closed (perhaps he should have called before getting in his car, hm?). Thank goodness we have this place that does such high rate work, and has such great knowledge of instruments that practically no one will touch anymore simply for economic reasons. Anyone who knows what they are talking about when it comes to photography knows that this place is a high-rate, rare, and precious for those who still choose to use film cameras (I have a digital camera that doesn't come close to producing the kind of images that film can). I wanted to put my two cents in because Apollo Camera doesn't begin to deserve the kind of review that this loser has submitted, so hopefully my words will counteract his ignorant rant. If you go to citysearch.com, you will find *only* great reviews for this place that does stellar repair work, and is really a rare, and greatly needed now that all the other film camera retailers have closed their doors.

Good reputation, but ...  2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

Apollo Camera Repair came recommended to me by friends, and was listed on a couple of other sites with glowing reviews.

I went there on a Saturday, and found out they weren't open - period, despite being listed by City Search as being open on Saturdays - you heard it here first, folks. Man does that get me pissed. I drove all the way across town, got stuck in a traffic jam while some City of Oakland crew was painting a crosswalk - and when I got there they were - CLOSED -

Their "new" hours are M-F: 9:30 AM - 6PM.

The place did not look like a big operation from the outside. In fact it looked like some defunct place from the 1950's, not the kind of place you want to check out while walking down the street.

As if that werent enough to dissuade me, I tried calling them during business hours the following monday.I asked them if they fixed Sony video-cameras - and the answer was "no." They just dont do video cameras.

While I would not dis-recommend them for standard camera repairs, I cant recommend them either. Their reputation is they are fast and less expensive than their competition. I wish that I could give them the stellar review and that my camera was fixed!!!

I do recommend calling them to describe the problem. If you dont get an answer - they arent open.
