Loved the atmosphere, Loved the cuisine, Loved the service. If you appreciate good food then you will know that these are people who know their food! To the lady with the partner who wanted cheese on their seafood, maybe you should try a different restaurant where their are cooks, not chefs. They are bringing their Italian traditions with them and sharing their wonderful food with us, they know how to serve it and they certainly know the proper way in which to eat it. This restaurant is obviously too far up your ally. I loved it, listen to the waiters and learn about their fantastic Italian cuisine. I haven't had better!
Via Veneto - Thank you!!

Great atmosphere. If you're on a date, it's sure to impress. As a married couple, frankly, I thought we could have made a better choice. I hate to say it, but after a number of years, you just don't have to try so hard. The specials were fabulous, but my wife's langoustine plate was about $70. Ouch. Great wine list though, and the waiter was very knowledgeable so he helped me make a great choice for a bottle under $50.

I had dined here years ago, loved it, and had yet to return. It was easy to make a reservation, even at 8 PM on a Saturday night, which was fine with me. The lobster ravioli was our appetizer, and it was good. I ordered portabello ravioli and my date ordered the seafood pasta. All dishes were above average, but nothing mind-blowing. Here's the thing -- they literally didn't allow my date to have parmesan cheese on his meal! The waiter explained that the chef claims it would deny the flavor of the seafood, etc. etc. It didn't matter. My date wanted cheese and could they please bring it on the side? No was the answer again, and the waiter, a gregarious, heavy-accented fellow, now flustered, explained that other waiters have been fired for not adhering to that rule. My date and I found this amusing...the pasta was still good without the cheese, but still, he wanted cheese! Ah well, choose your battles.

Dessert -- good not great -- once again. They were nice enough to bring a second dessert when I realized that the creamy flan-like dessert was probably not pasteurized...and I am pregnant. So we got to taste the chocolate tart too. Then the bill came. They charged us for a bottle of water (we drank tap) and an extra glass of wine. Hmmm. They easily readjusted the bill while we waited. Then my date could not find his scarf. They sort of helped find it, and when they realized he wasn't leaving without it, they decided to give the hunt a little more effort. Someone had taken it to the back.

All in all, my date and I had a nice evening and an indulgent meal. And although the atmosphere and society are charming enough, we concluded that the evening was strange at best, and next time, we will try elsewhere for date night. Axe, anyone?

I am all for paying for a good meal. The wine started at $72. a bottle and went beyond $2000. That would be okay except the $100 bottle of wine is really $20 and not worth that kind of mark up.
There are a lot of specials that you have to try to understand as they rattle them off quickly in a heavy Italian accent that leaves you kinda stumped (I over heard the other table say the same thing we did: why don't they write them down).
Don't even think of asking for any kind of changes to the plates. I asked for a side of pasta with my fish. It was like I created a new item on the menu they gave me such a look. Then told me that's not going to happen. Seriously?
The apps are an average of $20. We left with 1 app and 2 entrees to a sum of $110. Fine, if the food was good. The warm seafood salad was fine and light. The Dover sole was over breaded and spongy, the risotto was undercooked and over salted.
not worth the attitude and prices to me.

No one know the rules except the manager that comes in at 5pm. Only one beer and wine only. No wine list to view on line. $40 corkage fee for the one bottle.

Consider myself an experienced diner with lots of Italian under my belt at places around the world.

Via Veneto is by far my favorite Italian in LA, as well as the West Coast as a whole.

Try the pumpkin ravioli, or the gnocchi. You can't go wrong though if you listen to your waiter.

I read some of the reviews from other people before writing this and don't know what to say. The service the day I went was perfect. We told our waiter to suggest four dishes, he did. We asked him to make a few changes within those dishes, he did. They were busy but I never felt like I had to wait or was ignored. I recommend this to anyone who has an appreciation for Italian food with a bit extra. This is hard to find in Ca.

The food is good. However the service is the worse I have ever experienced. The female waitress never poured the drinks into the glasses. The cutlery was dirty. The bread was still on the table while having dessert. Serving food with the wrong hand, almost hitting us with their elbow. That is not all, or not as bad. What was bad was that we ordered and the whole time we felt rushed to leave the restaurant in order to offer a second seating. We arrived at 8.30, and basically felt like swallowing the food down because two of the waiters were on top of us to see when we could leave. The check was dropped on our table while not even asking us if we wanted some desserts. We ordered dessert and the waitress dropped the check. On purpose, we did not put the CC and came by 5 times, until we had enough and it was more than uncomfortable. We still had drinks on the table and the two waiters were almost opening the door for us, it was almost that obvious that they wanted us to leave. TERRIBLE!!!!

Several days prior to my wedding anniversary I made a reservation and requested window seating. I had been assured by the restaurant they would try their very best to insure a window side table. On the day of my reservation the restaurant called confirming my reservation and the request for the coveted window table. My husband and I arrived at the restaurant at the same time as a single woman without a reservation. The host decided to seat a single woman without a reservation at the only window table left in the restaurant instead of us. When we reminded the host and the manager/owner of our reservation, window table request, and anniversary, the host retorted the restaurant was too busy to accommodate such a request. My husband and I had a wonderful romantic dinner at the Hotel Bel Air instead.

That's all you need to order; it's simply delicious! Whereas most places call seafood salad a salad with some seafood on it, here they give you an abundance of seafood: clams, calamari, lagostines, prawns, scallops and white fish ( I'm getting hungry just writing about it) and they put in some arugula and a few tomatoes. The sauce is light and to-die-for.

As an entree I ate the dungeness crab and watercress salad in the shell and it was also amazing. The flavours here are light, tasty and fresh. I've never had such great food and I've eaten in many "high end" restaurants.

The dessert was also amazing. I asked for the Tiramisu ( my fave) but sadly they were out and our server was kind enough to bring me a sampling plate: panna cotta, and three different pies- all amazing. Panna cotta is my new favourite dessert!

It's unfortunate that there are so many bad reviews concerning the service and the manager, however our server ( the only female server) was fantastic and since we were with a regular, the manager paid (nice) attention to our table but I can believe what others have written.

The food is absolutely, hands down, amazing and I have to recommend people check it out because I haven't had a meal this great in LA.

And just remember two words: SEAFOOD SALAD!

We had a bad experience once before but because of the recent "hype" we decided to try it again. Never again! The staff (including owner/host) have a terrible 'tude. They are not interested in you unless you are a celeb, regular or pretty young things (without male companionship). They are so concerned with turning their tables that my wife and I were literally accosted a minute after we sat down by the waitress wanting to recite a list a specials. She seemed shocked when we politely told her we just sat down and wanted a moment to look at the menu, order some wine and then hear the specials. The busboy also seemed insulted by our choice of tap water after he offered only bottled water (sparkling or flat). We were almost sitting in the lap of two other tables for 2 on either side of us. When my wife asked if she could subsitute a different pasta with one of their sauces she was told "we don't make any changes or subsitutions to the menu"...and when we asked to order our appetizer first and then order our main course we were told "we have a small kitchen I can only place a total order"...not customer-friendly at all. They were totally focused in moving us along; even with our battling to pace our meal and wine, etc. we were still out in an hour! As a side note, the host/owner paid particular attention to the table next to us with 2 attractive women (and they weren't regular's) providing them with a sampling of the ravioli specials. I'm sure that wasn't the only "special" he wanted to provide. For such a supposed fine restaurant, can you say "cheesy"?Never again!Hint:if you want great Italian and similar ambiance, but classic, attentive service seek out Ago (West Hollywood), Osteria Latini (Brentwood) or Piccolo Paradiso (Bev Hills)-much better food without the 'tude!

I make an annual trip out to LA and Via Veneto is my #1 choice for dinner, EVERY night!
Best food anywhere, cool, hip vibe, friendly wait staff and I even got to meet the "rock star" owner on one of my visits. My favorite dish is the crab salad in a shell....it's to die for!! Some of these bad reviews makes me wonder as it certainly doesn't reflect my many experiences at this great restaurant. I also checked out their new place "Hidden" which is right across the street and that vemue is beyond description!! The "Two Romans and a Rock Star" are a great team.

without a doubt, the BEST italian food experience in L.A.
As an italian /american who's lived in italy, i know what i'm talking about.
Get the spaghetti botarga with razor clams. There's nothing that even comes close, anywhere.

I'm shocked at the negative reviews! I've been there 4 times and each time it is better than the last. We were even turned away with reservations last Friday because my husband was in shorts and I'd STILL recommend this place. I'm going back on May 30th and bringing friends!

The waiters can be hard to understand, but I've actually felt embarrassed by how much time they spent with us going over the menu. Our last time we tipped 50% because we were so impressed with the service.

The asparagus ravioli is the best thing I've ever eaten.

My experience was like being served by sleazy used car salesman with fake italian accents. It was so hammed up that my boyfriend and I both couldn't understand the specials of the evening only that we felt roped into ordering at least one. We had the same experience with the wine. Every wine by the glass they were supposedly "out of". We were then pointed in the direction of the 1/2 bottles for over $100. When i tried to order a 1/2 bottle for around $40 again they were "out of" the bottle. It got so uncomfortable we almost skipped the wine. It seemed every bottle under $100 they didn't have. Before we had even finished our meal, (which was so-so and not worth the price) the waiter dropped the bill, only to discover he had charged us a different price for the wine we had ordered. Now, normally i wouldn't make a big deal over $9, but the fact that our waiter had been so shady when trying to order the bottle, i decided to bring it up. He told us that it was the "special reserve" and that he told us before opening. I have never experienced this type of sleazy service in a restaurant. The manager Marco then came to the table and told us that he will not be adjusting the price to what the menu lists it at and very rudely told us that our waiter said he informed us and if we don't agree we can take it out of his tip. THIS WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD A A RESTAURANT. YOU COULDN'T PAY US TO RETURN TO THIS PLACE.

This was the worst experience I've ever had dining. Well, not dining really. We went on Friday night with 8:00 reservations, waited until 8:30 without even being spoken to, and then when we were asked to wait outside in the cold, we decided to leave. The manager or owner (never understood who he was) used expliatives and told us never to come back. It was absolutely horrible. I've been in the restaurant industry and customer service industry for 10 years. The worst service I've ever ever ever had anywhere. I would go to Olive Garden for Italian before ever even stepping foot in their restaurant again

Let me start first by saying I 100% agree with scr17. I have been driving up to LA from OC for the past three years to dine at Via Veneto. Yes, the food IS that good. I've taken so many of my friends there and most of them have become fixtures of this restaurant. I've spoken to Marco, the so-called manager quite a few times. To make a long story short, I ended up making a reservation for me and two of my close friends, one of who is lactose intolerant. This friend asked for no dairy in the sauce. She wanted straight marinara sauce, they made her 2 dishes of pasta, both had dairy which could have sent her to the hospital. Instead of asking if she wanted soup, salad, or something else. The manager, Marco was looking at our table, giving us evil looks and sent a waiter over to tell us basically to pay the check and get out and that they needed our table! I'm not kidding you folks, this is exactly what the waiter said and keep in mind he was told to say this by the MANAGER! I will NEVER go back to this restaurant, not even if you paid me! And as for ALL my referrals; they won't be back either!

I have been to Via Veneto when it had just opened and remember it being such a nice night, which is why I decided to take my parents there last night for their 46th anniversary. As I waited for my parents to arrive I sat at the table already embarrassed by the noise factor. The place comes off as a beautiful romantic restaurant but is louder than Laker game. We had trouble understanding the nice Italian waiter and had to guess what we were ordering on the specials. If you plan on dining here, see if you can bring your own bottle of wine because the prices are outrageous! Service was slow. The food was good. The overall experience was bad because of the obnoxious shouting at each table. It is not worth what you are paying at all.

Pros: good pasta

Cons: crowded, you are not able to have a conversation!

Great Italian food with real Italian waiters. We took clients here. The place is very small and well decorated. You feel like you're getting personalized attention. Very extensive wine list. I had a caprese salad but I asked for the Burrata cheese, SO GOOD. Then I had the halibut for dinner. Even the olive oil and bread to begin with was amazing. My boss had paparadelle pasta with quail, and it was also amazing. Good all around, especially if someone else is paying :)

Oh, there's also a good upstairs area that you can rent out for large parties.

The Good-The food was very good, exceptional in some cases. Our server was wonderful, great personality, a passion for food and a wonderful Italian accent that added to his charm.

The Bad-Good luck trying to have any conversation. It is IMPOSSIBLE to hear inside.

The Ugly-At the end of our meal we ordered a $130 bottle of wine at the sommelier's urging to go with our dessert. As we were finishing the bottle I started to notice the owner loudly conversing with the maitr d' and looking very irritated as he appeared to be glancing at our table. At this point, it was just about 9 PM, not an excessive stay by any means given our 7:15 reservation. 5 minutes later the same thing happened, this time the two literally cursing in English and Italian while stairing at our table. At this point it dawned on me that they were angry we were not leaving (our bill was paid a few minutes earlier), but we still had wine remaining. Then, the maitr d' literally came over to our table complaining that we were taking too long. I was blown away! We spent $350 on dinner for 3, were there for less than 2 hours and STILL had wine remaining that they happily sold to us at the end of the meal and they were not only trying to rush us out, they were cursing at us! The. Of course, when confronted the owner denied doing so and blamed the maitr d' which just made the whole experience even more disgusting. Funny thing is, apparently this happens all the time. The third member of our party referenced similar experiences on multiple visits-service ultimately stopping because the owner wanted to flip a table faster.

Having worked in the food and restaurant biz, I have an appreciation for the fact it is a business and time is money. But it remains a service industry and Via Veneto seems to miss this point. Unfortunately, the problem is at the top. My take: If an owner places such little value in his patrons, he doesn't deserve your business. I know he won't be getting any more of mine...

You know when you walk in the door, you're getting the real deal. This place isn't going to coddle you, or make sure your every whim is catered to - it's all about a treu Italian food experience.

We (wife and I) cook 5 nights a week. We've eaten all over the world. This is consistently one of the best nights out for a feast that we've experienced, anywhere. We've been in small groups, and larger groups. Never has one person in our outings been underwhelmed by a dish. And we all are enjoying it so much that we feel compelled to share. No point in describing finer points of particular dishes - just go. But make sure someone tries the Rosemary Grilled Ribeye. And the homemade pastas change all the time and are outstanding - delicate sauces with layered flavors and interesting meats, like quail and rabbit. The printed menu is pointless. Listen for the specials, which consistently repeat favorite dishes.

How could some people come away angry? They must have gone in expecting The Olive Garden. Here's the reality:
- it is small, and crowded. similar to bustling cafes and restaurants in Italy.. go figure!
- it is loud, and sometimes hard to understand the waiters through their accents, like Italy... go figure!
- the staff has a smart, sharp sense of humor and they play off the mood of your table. give them attitude and they give it back... go figure!

If you think you're more important than the table next to you, you're in the wrong place. If you think waiting 15-20 for your table to clear out, yet complain that you feel rushed out when it's your turn to get up, you're in the wrong place.

Learn to use the people who put up a 1 star for this place. I now seek out the other places they don't like! Seriously.

Pros: fantastic food, playful authentic staff

Cons: small, crowded, loud, watch the wine upsells

After waiting 15 minutes to be seated along with 2 friends, we came only for dessert and wine and told that to the waiter. We ordered our (very expensive for 3 college students) desserts and wine to only be asked to leave 5 minutes later because our order was too small and they did not want to waste their time on customers who did not meet their requirements, but were told that the $6 water was "on the house". That was a little embarassing in itself, but we decided it wasn't worth it anyway and got up to leave. Upon leaving, we were chased out by another waiter who decided it was his mission to yell at us in the middle of the streets of Santa Monica and demanded payment for the water we had barely touched. He called us "rude" and asked us who would be paying for it. Overall, embarassing and awkward to be treated like that by strangers. Even when I do have money someday, I would never never ever spend it there. After reading all the other negative reviews, I am just a little glad we weren't being singled out. It was irritating to be treated like that by anyone, no one ever deserves that...EVER. Maybe their food is good, I wouldn't know and will never know. Going to a restaurant is an experience where people expect to be treated somewhat decently. They are not running a good business: I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!!

Where do i start?! The waitress approached us and told us the specials. She gave us on average 3 - 4 specials for each course. My husband and i kept glancing at eachother wondering if it would ever end. The waitress had a beautiful Italian accent, but she was saying the specials so very fast that her words ran into eachother and we couldn't understand a word she said! They have squeezed in as many tables in that small space as possible, and as a result, everytime someone at the table behind you needs to get up, you have to move your chair because you are literally back to back. Also, everytime the wait staff passed by, my chair was kicked and my purse would fall to the ground. After sitting for quite sometime, someone kindly brought us some bread and olives, no sooner had they delivered it, they picked it up from the table because i guess our food was coming out shortly. We were shocked! The waitress didn't even ask us if we were still working on it. (We figured we would just ask for more when the food came out - boy were we wrong). When they brought out my husbands porcini risotto and my lobster dish i asked for more bread and some parmesan for his dish. We had to repeat this request to 3 different people until someone finally brought us some cold bread-by this time we'd had the food for 15 min. The busboy did not bring the parmesan with him, saying that they do not serve cheese with seafood. Okay.....well porcini is a mushroom, not seafood! He continued to question our request. At this point, my husband had only a few more bites of risotto left, so i told the guy to just forget about it! No one once came by to ask us how our meal was. I couldn't wait to get out of there! My husband and I know the rule of "no cheese with seafood", but we couldn't help but think, what if someone really wanted cheese with their fish, would they be refused? They ARE in fact paying for the meal. We do not recommend this place to anyone!

3) With that said, we all decided to order from the menu as we were certainly not going to ask him to repeat the specials with pricing?. Although we all ordered different entrees (all of which were described as having different sauces) when the dishes arrived to the table they completely lacked eye appeal and each entree was smothered in a thick red sauce which was very salty. Ordering veal with a wild mushroom sauce, you would think it would be a mushroom sauce, not a red sauce with 2 porcini slices. By the way, the veal was a very small portion and did not taste any better then veal you can get C & O Trattoria.

4) When one of us asked for freshly grated Parmesan cheese, the waiter rudely said ?NO we don?t serve parmesan with seafood?, turned and walked away without any regret. When I am paying $28 for a pasta entree that did not seem representative of the menu description, and I ask for something that is not off the wall, I expect to be accommodated to my request.

5) We must have made a huge mistake when we asked for more fresh warm bread. When the bread was brought to our table, about 3 minutes later the same man came back to our table and without asking if we were finished, reached for our bread plates and the bottle of olive oil on the table and all were unceremoniously whisked away. We all sat there with our mouths agape.

I wish Zagat was dining with us as they would take away their rating just as quickly as the waiter took away the bread!!!

I have been to many of the top rated resaurants in LA and this is BY FAR my favorite. I have eaten here upward of 15 times and every experience has been memorable (in the best way)...sometimes I eat in and sometimes take out. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic, the best date place in LA. Sure its on the smaller side but that is part of its charm,,,its intimate. The food is far superior to any other italian in the city and better than any I have had in the country. The only people I have been with are huge food critics and this place makes these other restaurants look mediocre. Georgios used to be my favorite and I still eat at Madeo every few weeks but ever since I started coming to this place I cant get enough. It might be expensive but you definitly get what you pay for. I even suggest going back to anyone who had a bad experience. By the way, get the pumpkin ravioli!

I went on a date last saturday night here and I had a great time. I was very lucky because I did not have a reservation and walked in at 8:10pm and was seated right away whereas the party behind us would have to come back in 2 hours for a table to open up. I had 2 glasses of wine, an appetizer, a pasta for my entree and tiramisu for dessert and left the restaurant not full. The portion was very small for the price but it was really tasty. I'd recommend it if you have the money to spend, you'd just have to order more. The service wasn't as bad as many of the reviews I've seen here but I can see how it can be that way. Or maybe I was just drooling over my date and didn't pay much attention to the service and/or everything else. I would go back again when I get paid!

I was excited to try Via Veneto as I had heard some good things about it. Unfortunately, my dining experience fell woefully shy of my expectations. The seating area is cramped and the chairs were uncomfortable. The food was average and overpriced and the service was excruciatingly slow. I could not wait to get out of there. After listening to the waiter list what seemed like an eternity of specials, I decided to order off the menu to which he replied, "Why get something you can get at any Italian restaurant in the city?". I took his advice and spent $32 on the most average lobster risotto. And to boot they don't even use real lobster - it's lagostino, basically a cross between a prawn and a lobster. At the end of the day I ended up spending $165 on the most average meal ever - and my lower back is still sore from those chairs. There are so many better Italian choices on the Westside, forget this place.

Visited Via Veneto on a Sat. night at 7:30. We were seated with no problem after making a reservation just a few hourse eariler. My wife, my friend and I really liked the decor and lighting of the place and were excited to try the food.
We asked for tap water--the waiter brought us a $6.00 bottle of water. I asked for wines by the glass (from the menu; we were told they have none) and he brought us a $30.00 half bottle of what he called the house red!

The pasta from the ridicously long specials menu was $30.00 and was just OK. Trust me I lived in Italy for over a year and know good Italian food----this place is way too overpriced for what you get and the wait staff REALLY upsells everyrthing in slick and dishonest way. I would definatly not go back to this place....

I went here with my girlfriend last weekend- BIG mistake! I wish I'd read the reviews here beforehand. We both regretted the experience. I'm not one to write reviews normally, but this was so bad that I had to do it. We were seated in a very cramped space and immediately rushed to order. The food was at best OK, but certainly nothing special. But what made the experience so horrible was the fact that throughout our meal the waiter and buss boy continuously rushed us and finally asked us to leave so they could give the table to someone else. I'd never come across such rude staff in a restaurant before, and I had never had such an experience anywhere else. When I came and read the other reviews here, I realized that we weren't the only ones that this has happened to and this is their normal practice. Between a fast food place and this restaurant, I'd take fast food!

Went here last week with a few friends. I have no idea what the other reviewers who gave this place a good review were thinking. The food and especially wines are way over-priced (they should have it listed as $$$$ here rather than $$$). And I can say that the food is very underwhelming and nothing special. The service is absolutely terrible- they brought us the wrong entrees- and we were rushed through our meal and the waiter was trying to get us out of the restaurant as fast as possible to seat another party. Definitely not worth the time or money- there are so many better Italian restaurants in L.A. with much better food, service, and atmosphere.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! I went to Via Veneto with a couple of friends last Saturday night- I can say without a doubt, this was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had in L.A. I had made reservations earlier that day and specifically requested one of the tables by the window, and was promised that we would have one. When we arrived, they told us that they never make any such promises. The only available table was a very tight spot in the middle of the restaurant which we accepted. We were rushed to order our food, and when the food arrived, they got the order wrong and tried to pretend it was our fault. Throughout the entire dinner, before we were done with anything, the buss boys tried to remove the plates from the table in while we were still eating!!! Finally, after an awful dining experience, while we were drinking coffee, the waiter asked us to leave as there were other people waiting for our table. We had been there for only an hour and had just spent $300 on three people!!! On top of this, the food was not that good (I lived in Italy for many years and know good Italian cooking).

My friends and I met up to taste Via Veneto and our group grew from 5 to 6. The space is small, but the manager told us to wait a little bit and he would have a table ready. The table before us was taking their time, so the manager gave us free glasses of champagne for our troubles! We were sat and I was immediately pleased with the service and the overall presentation of the restaurant. Just about everyone was Italian on staff and all very knowledgeable. I ordered the pumpkin ravioli with sage butter sauce (one of my favorite dishes) and was of course wowed, but then I tried my friend?s rabbit ravioli and was even more impressed by Via Veneto! We enjoyed our meals and dessert with coffee. Then we realized, as some of the staff members sat down to enjoy their own meals, we were holding them up, so we hurried up and got out to finish up our evening. On other occasions, this behavior would bother me, but tonight I was so pleased with the entire experience, I didn?t care! I can't wait to go back!

Pros: Rabbit Ravioli, Pumpkin Ravioli, Staff, Atmosphere

Cons: Space

Let me start off with my motto: "Will travel for food." If I hear of a great restarurant, I will make an effort to go, regardless of where it is. A couple of friends of mine and I finally had dinner plans after our schedules had been conflicting for several months. None of us had been to this restaurant but I heard the food was amazing. I told my friends I made the reservation. One of my friends told me later that night that she had read reviews on here and was concerned. I convinced them to go and we all admitted that all of the reviews were meritless! We had 8:30 reservations but we were early, they sat us at the window table at 8:15. Our waiter was so friendly and knowledgeable. He recommended a fabulous wine and was patient even when we asked him to repeat the 21 specials of the day. The service was above anything I had ever received in Los Angeles. The dessert topped off the perfect evening. We had been at the restaurant for close to 3 hours. We did not feel rushed, or hurried. They kept checking on us to make sure that we were comfortable, the food was to our liking and that we were generally having a good time. And as an additional surprise, they offered us a dessert wine - compliments of Via Veneto. I have been missing NYC's restaurants since I moved here over 2 years ago but I have finally found a place that makes me feel like I am home.

Pros: Fantastic food, amazing service

Cons: Cannot think of any

We arrived at 6:10 for a 6:30 res., first ones in the restuarant, seated at a tiny table. We asked if we could move to one of the 2 tables in the window(the only decent tables in the place) we were told they were already reserved. We ordered sparkling water and started in on the wine list. Looking at wines in the $50-$60 range the waiter immediately suggested 2 whites $90 and $95! Rude #1, next we went to order a starter and were told we needed to order our entire meal at the same time, rude #2. We were then rapidly read the 21 evening specials, totally ridiculous for both the customer and waitstaff. We settled on veal ravioli and pasta fagiole soup to start, and entrees of spaghetti with shaved tuna and we succumbed to the waiters insistence that we try the steak fiorrentino(t-bone). The starters were above average, the pasta was an interesting creation but overpriced at $30. When my fiance asked for some parmesan, the busser briskly told him "we don't serve cheese on that" and turned away, Rude #3. The steak was terrible, a huge t-bone slathered in olive oil and rosemary, ordered medim rare, served medium, dry, no flavor. We told our server, he said I don't understand it is the best! We were then blessed by the presence of one of the owners I believe who continued to argue that there was nothing wrong, he said the chef poked it with his finger and it was fine. He did not want to take it off our bill, but I refused to pay for something I was unsatisfied with. We were going to order another entree instead but were treated so demeaningly that we decided to call it a night. In addition to bottle of white we purchased we had brought a very limited pinot noir we had saved for a special dinner. I don't mind paying corkage, but $25 was ridiculous. The food is hugely overpriced, service is rushed and tables are uncomfortable. I've been in the restaurant business for 20 years, this is one of the worst experiences I've had. No second chances here!!

Pros: none

Cons: too many too mention

I was very hesitant to go here after reading reviews of the service, but it was someone else's choice, and I ended up being very pleasantly surprised. Maybe others wrote bad reviews to deter others from going, so they can have this place to themselves? Anyway, my friend and I had a reservation for 8:30pm Saturday, were seated immediately, and never felt rushed. We were there probably two hours and had a bottle of water, bottle of wine ($65), two starters, two 'specials' entrees, and a great tiramisu. The grand total before tip, including the wine, was $200 - as expected I think for that kind of upscale place, fantastic food, romantic setting, and the nicest Italian waiter and busboys. Everything was timed perfectly and absolutely delicious. This is now one of my favorite restaurants in LA.

Pros: Food, Service, Romantic

Cons: Can get loud, and some tables are placed a bit too close to one another

I'd like to start on a positive note, the food was perfect!! The service from the wait staff was iimpeccable. There were four of us in my party, two married couples in our 30's. We were very well dressed, and by the time our meal was finished we had ordered two bottles of wine, four full entrees and two desserts.
And now, the negative side of our experience. Before we could finish our main course, the owner repeatedly rushed by our table and barked out commands to move us along so that new customers could sit at our table. He even tapped on our table to signal us and the staff that our time was up in his mind and that his restaurant was losing money by not getting a new party in our seats. Yes, I understand, business is business, but c'mon. At one point he stood over our table and while expressing his frustration, waved his arms at a waiter nearly hitting one of us with his cell phone! The restaurant is very very small and cramped and there is a constant parade of yelling pushy people brushing against you and your table. As we all stood up to leave after about an hour total. The owner was looming over our table and I put my arm on his shoulder and said, "Wow, you really want this table, huh?" He responded, "Oh Yes, you have no idea how much I want this table to be empty." I replied, "Well it's empty now and we'll never come back." We left a very hearty tip and it is a shame for the servers and other staff that their boss has no respect for his customers and their comfort. Happier customers means bigger tips.

This is my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. I have been multiple times and have always had a wonderful experience. It is a great place to go with someone special or your family. Everyone I recommend Via Veneto to has said it is one of the best meals they have ever had. I highly recommend the burrata and proscuitto to start and the spinach ravioli for your meal. Every bite is delicious.

Hands down, the worst service I've ever witnessed in any part of the world. True Italians would be ashamed. The manager is a brute that yells at his patrons, the waiters are perpetually confused, and the food, albiet good, is not worth the grief. What a shame.

I've eaten there many times over the years. There's good and then there's really BAD. Food is good. Wait staff is very knowledgeable. Here is the problem. The guys who seat you are awful. Very surly. Very impatient. Three times now (and we are super nice when we go there to try to avoid the attitude) we go and either get yelled at to go stand outside by the hosts or told we'll just have to wait standing as our reservation turns from being 10 minutes wait to easily a half hour. Its not relaxed going into it. We had to walk out last night when a friend in our party got mad at the host for being told like a child to "go now outside and wait". Its just not cool. We went across to Schatzi. Don't love their food like Via Veneto but we really enjoyed our night there instead. Don't know what to say but maybe if enough people get on them for their bad host attitude it might change.

The food is good - I have to give this place props for that. Especially the cheese filled ravioli and the tiramisu. However the tables are too close to each other, the waiters are always trying to rush you and the lighting is a littel too dark. It's dark to the point where it hurts your eyes. I also think that this place - as trendy as it is might be a little overpriced. Portion were reasonable but not massive and the bill was!

I've frequented this restaurant for the last 6 years, and while I can empathize with a few of the negatives , this is hands-down my favorite dining destination in LA. Candlelit, great energy,(think SOHO or SF), and authentic delicious cuisine. Seafood salad tastes fresh , crisp and makes you think you are on the med., also the best Venison in LA. Period. More budget minded? The penne arrabiata (spicy pasta) is the best I've had in LA as well. Wine list is extensive , if more geared to the $80-$100 range, for more modest selections try the California wines or ask for a nice wine BTG. Best seating is in the window or against the wall. Service can be the best or inattentive, want a sure thing- ask for Paulo to serve you, a true professional. The special list goes on forever- hint- order the specials! Worried about the crowd?, Try early or late and make a reservation. My suggestion is late, the staff winds down has a bite to eat and doesn't rush your experience. I've eaten at every top restaurant in LA, I always choose Via Veneto #1.

the food was good, the waiters were nice but the owner was a pain. he hovered over our table hurrying us to finish, even though we ordered wine and spent a decent amount of money on the food. so the more money you spend here, the better you are treated. not what i would say makes a great restaurant.
