I would like to take a moment to apologize to all the people who have given me 1 star reviews. It was never my intention to hurt you, or harm you or make you feel badly. I have no doubt that there have been altercations between me and some clients that have caused some pain or disharmony. I'm sure everyone can agree that we have all had arguments and disagreements with people in our lives. Often, the hurt goes both ways.
Please Note; I sold the studio in August 2010, and some teachers went to open up their own studio up the street, so the posts you see around that time are likely manipulative attempts to pull more clientele to their "new" studio, and try to prevent new clients from attending our studio (their closest competitor). That's just what malicious people do.
It's not easy being a Director of dance studios for over 25 years, organizing so many different types of people and personalities. I wish that people would see things from my point of view. For example; it was said I am greedy. If I was so, then why didn't I have the highest tuition rates in town, even though we were consistently winning at competitions. Why would I have not raised my prices to be close to the other studios? Why was my "unlimited tuition" one of the lowest in the state? Why did I only get a $10 profit from my costumes when most other studios were taking a $50+ profit from their costumes. If I was so greedy, then why did my teachers only have to pay me $10 per hour for space rent, while other studios were charging $30+ per hour for space rent? That doesn't sound like a greedy person to me. I also helped out my financially struggling parents by allowing them to work at my studio & at my husbands business, in order to help them pay for their tuition. Most studio director wouldn't have done that for them. I let people get months behind paying me, without kicking them out of classes, as some other studios would have likely done.I constantly smiled and said hello to everyone on a daily basis, even though I was struggling in my own personal life with divorce and death and illness. I gave to animal and children's charities, even when I was struggling financially from the loan I had to pay on purchasing the studio. I threw parties constantly at the studio for the kids (on my own dime), to keep things fun and exciting for the children and the parents. Picnics in the park, birthday parties, team spirit parties, baby showers, pizza parties, pool parties, etc. I always worked 80 hours a week to keep the studio running smoothly and meeting my deadlines and doing above-n-beyond things that many studios owners wouldn't care to do. I know I carefully hired excellent teachers, whom I know did a great job, as I expected excellence from my staff. I had many instructors from ages 18 to age 65 and everything between. (so that is another lie posted by a cyber review). I also know from 40 years of dance experience, age does not make a better teacher, nor does a college degree. Some of the worst teachers, whom I had to let go, had college degrees in dance. Some of my very best teachers were in their early 20's. I am quite sure after hiring hundreds of instructors in my lifetime, I would have a plethora in knowledge about this process. There have been instructors at my studio which I personally didn't get along with, but I kept them on staff because I knew that some of the parents and kids loved them, and I wanted to keep those parents and kids happy. So, I put my feelings last for their sake. (It's funny that one review that talks a bout a teacher running out of class yelling outside that her students "didn't care about her", was ACTUALLY a teacher whom the original owners hired, and was not my choice hire. How ironic.) Not to mention, we had a large enough staff, that if any parent was unhappy with any instructor, there were plenty of other instructor they could have chosen and simply moved classes. I think that if my instructors were "no good", we wouldn't be doing so well at dance competitions all these years. It pains me to see how these cyber bullies are debasing my teachers, whom put their hearts and souls into their craft and into these kids. That makes me more sad than anything! I also always encouraged parents to tell me if they had any issues or problems. I always had signs posted all over the studio stating this, and I had spent countless hours with parents during my off hours, happily speaking with them about the concerns that they had. Yet, none of this gets mentioned and nobody in the cyber world know about these things, because nobody sees the good and wants to post about it.
*** If they know it or not, I loved ALL my students, I miss them dearly, and I appreciate each and every one of them, I think about them all the time, and I wish the best for all of them! Even the people who maliciously posted bad stuff about me.

I love going to dance class. The teachers can do dance moves very well, so you get the idea of how to preform it. The students are very kind, especially on the competition team. The competition team parents are not mean, but rather

The owner Laura is a horrible person and makes any time spent here unbearable! My children and I will never be back!

Sanchez- Thank you for the list of nearby studios. My girls now will be trying out Hart Academy Dance, The Dance Spot, and Imperial Dance.

It truly saddens me to see how the studio has evolved over they years from "new ownership and management." The Dance Depot (originally created and owned by Krista and Kara Deitz who sold the studio to spend more time with their families) was a family oriented studio that put the overall welfare and happiness of the children first! This is NO LONGER the case.

Laura Monk is now the owner and to be honest has made this studio a nightmare! All anyone has to do is talk to other parents their or read the reviews to realize this is not a positive environment for children. Honestly, the only positive review is from the owner herself! I used to dance competitively for other local dance studios (Just Plain Dancin "JPD" and The Dance Spot--both of which are wonderful, and reputible award winning studios) so I am not in ANY way opposed to the discipline, commitment and hard-working characteristics taught by this art. However, the only characteristics shown by Laura Monk are greed and anger. She is completely unprofessional! You do not have to have a communications degree to know how to treat people, especially paying customers! I was mortified to she how she belittled and talked down to numerous parents, including the children! FYI-- She used to own another local studio called Hart Academy of Dance in La Habra, Ca. where she conducted and ran this studio in the same fashion. Over the years, she lost a number of students and the respect of students/parents, so she sold the studio to its current owner, Diana Holman.

The Dance Depot now claims to be under "new management and staff," unfortunately, they fail to mention it is now run by teenagers!!! 4 out of the 6 staff members/directors have recenty graduated high school and simply put- competing for your dance studio or a few years of your high school dance team in NO WAY qualifies you to choreograph routines; instruct the students about their bodies and how to take care of it ex. how to stretch out the necessary muscles or the prevention of injuries; proper technique; or to work with/ direct young children in general! Again, all of the above (employing children to work with children) shows the owner's disregard for thestudent's welfare, success and the tuition the parents pay for as "expert instruction."

I will list a few other recreational and competitive dance studios in the area where this no concern from former and future parents/ students about the moral of the studio. Good Luck with your decision and I hope you find yourself happy at your new dance studio!

The Dance Spot- Fullerton, Ca.
Hart Academy of Dance- La Habra, Ca.
Team Millenia-La Habra, Ca.
Dellos Dance Studio-Walnut, Ca.
Orange County Perf. Arts Academy- Anaheim Hills, Ca.
Orange County Perf. Arts- Yorba Linda, Ca.
Arthur Murray Dance Studios, Orange Ca.
Elevations Dance Studio- Long Beach, Ca.
West Coast School of the Arts- Costa Mesa, Ca.
Jimmie DeFore Dance Studio- Costa Mesa, Ca.
Focus Dance Center- Irvine, Ca.
Cutting Edge Dance Center- Phillips Ranch, Ca.

These are just a few of the local studios that I am very familiar with. If you would like some more information or a list of more studios in the placentia area e-mail me!

Hi. I am the owner of The Dance Depot. I would like to clarify that I have never put any of my own posts on these websites until now. I honestly don??t have the time to be doing such a thing. All the positive comments are from current students or teachers of mine. I am much too busy running a business and working to provide high quality dance instruction and put on many dance production shows, events and parties for these great children whom I work for. I have successfully been doing so for over 25 years now. It is every so often a dance studio owner will encounter disgruntled former clients who in one way or another didn??t get things their way, and they feel it is necessary to cowardly go on the internet to slander other human beings. They don??t have moral integrity to say these things face to face, as that would reveal their identity. The names given here never went to my studio, so they are false. It is likely that this small handful of people have been asked to leave the studio for valid reasons. So, they feel it??s mature to say nasty things on the internet to get even, so to speak. From the way they place their words, you can see why a studio owner might want these types of people to no longer be in their dance studio. As mean as they can show themselves here in their own wording, mimics the same attitude we had to deal with while they were dancing at our studio. I prefer to keep sane and positive people at my dance studio. Therefore, I am happy to see them gone. We all know that one bad apple (parent) can ruin the whole barrel (affect other parents). I pray that people like this learn one day that this is immature behavior and only shows their true character to the entire world. I wonder if they go to church and what their religion would say about what they are doing. It saddens me to see this low form of humanity and I hope they seek help for their anger. We only want positive people in our environment at work, and these people obviously are not that type. For those who love dance and love other people, keep on dancing!!
COME SEE OUR SHOW ON AUG. 8th at the La Mirada Civic Theater!!! Call studio for ticket information!

Right now i am a student at the dance depot.
It's a great studio!!It's fun & has really good dancers. But,Laura Monk, isnt the best, though She's super nice to your face,She's not the nicest over email. She dosent think about others but herself. She takes EVEYTHING the wrong way. She's very kind to the children,But not to the parents. My Mom & Dad have been wanting me to go to a different studio for a while now,But i always refuse to leave. She dosent know what others think about her.She dosent understand the fact that she is ruining the chance for me to stay there at the studio by having an horrible attitude towards my parents.I always tell my parents that if i leave,I'm not gonna dance anywhere else.Which means i'll quit. They know how much i love dancing,& they won't just make me leave just cause of her.I try to keep the negatives about laura away from my mom,To make Laura not look bad,&all the other dancers do the same. They don't leave because we all love eachother & have grown up to be like sisters(:We try to ignore her as much as possible.

There is nothing special about this studio. Please understand. This owner is horrible!! All the rumors are true!!! When you own a buisness you should have professional courtesy and keep your comments to a minimum. Trust me she goes on forever. Really really nasty...... That is why I pulled my daughter out last year!!! Now I am at a studio that I love!! Why did I not do this years ago??? I am writing this now because I am happy at my new studio and I do not want other people to get stuck there.

Im not sure when a dance studio became a babysitting service? I have been a dancer for 13 years and also a teacher and now a mother of 3. I have put my children in dance at other studios and never thouhgt that I would get babysitting. PLEASE!!! Get real! if you are thinking that you are going to get babysitting out of dance class then do us all the favor and dont put your child in dance it just shows that you arent very serious or dedicated!! I would walk out of class if the students werent giving me the time of day either. The only review you should be writing is an apology for being so SNOTTY!!!!

This studio has been taken over by a woman who has no business sense or even the personality to deal with children and parents. The teachers are unhappy, (those who haven't found new jobs), the teachers Monk has hired are not worth the tuition. One teacher "walked out" of class on a group of 11 year olds because she said "they didn't care about me". Bottom line, don't waste your money here. This is not a good place for children.

Being at this place left such a bad impression for me to ever try another studio but there was hope at the end of the tunnel, I found another place that would treat my children with respect and never leave them unattended. The teachers here are always late and the owner is so concerned about herself that she forgets that her first priority is the children and not herself.
