I have taken my own children to CALM several times & I took my daycare kids there several times on a field trip as well. All of the kids love the experience & the staff is extremely friendly and very knowledgable. It is a wonderful place for people of all ages to enjoy the animals & it's very affordable, even for an entire family to go to.

I have been to CALM twice I believe. It's a great place to go for a little day trip. It's a little bit farther past Hart Park, so it's a little far but still worth the drive.

I haven't been there in a while but when I did the prices seemed pretty fair, and I think you can buy a family membership of some sort. They don't have quite as many animals as the LA Zoo or something bigger, but it's still a nice little place.

My little girls love the horse, and especially the lizard house for some odd reason (though they are afraid, I guess they are just fascinated...).

Anyway, great place for a day trip. Think they would be better off if they had a snack shop or a little deli or something.

PROS: great place to take the kids
CONS:

Seeing wildlife is not an everyday thing in this town. This museum is kind of like a small zoo. There are some neat animals here. Calm has good hours and good rates for the entire family. I like to sightsee and see the wildlife so this is always a great experience going to this museum.

CALM--California Living Museum--is a treasure just outside of Bakersfield. They feature all sorts of animals that would normally live in the wild but have been placed at Calm due to injuries or sickness. Instead of a normal zoo "cage" environment, the animals live in their natural habitat, so viewing the animals gives you a picture of how they really live. It's perfect for children of all ages--they especially love the reptiles. The staff is fabulous--very knowledgeable and great with kids. They do demonstrations with all sorts of animals and formal bird shows in their amphitheater on site. They even have a petting zoo for interacting with more common farm animals. Prices are extremely reasonable, and if you live in the area a year-long pass for your family is a modest investment that provides a whole year of visiting the animals!

Bakersfield does not have a big zoo like the bigger cities do. But this is a fun place for the entire family to go. You can spend a few hours here easily and there are coupons around to make admittance cheaper. There are cool animals here, and children always seem to have a blast going here.

This place is nowhere near the likes of a real zoo. I think its more of a place to take kids for a short amount of time. They dont really have a lot of animals to look at and once you have been there one time there really isnt anything left to see next time because it seems like nothing ever changes.

Calm is a fun place for children and can be enjoyed by adults as well. They have a lot of animals here, but it is nowhere as big as a zoo like the Los Angeles Zoo. It is small and easy enough to see everything there in a short amount of time. I would recommend coming here for an afternoon and just spending time looking at the animals, they have a nice selection.
