Mmmmm, cinnamon buns!

by Nicole G. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,188

Speaking of house expenses, I recently had a faucet malfunction, so I figured it's about time to replace a couple of things around the house that has been irking me.

I bought a rug here yesterday and I do have my eye on a new sink that they have on sale at the clearance isle. The only problem is that it is on clearance, so hopefully it'll still be there when I come back.

I've upped my review to 3* by the way because of their excellent cinnamon buns. Mmmmm!

Wretched Customer Service

by Todd K.

I phoned to check on an item that I've been looking everywhere for. This store has shown the same number available for weeks, while all other stores in the state have been sold out. I asked if someone could just verify that the item was actually on the shelf before I shlepped all the way out there and they refused.

Computers aren't perfect, and true customer service means actually helping your customers from making unnecessary trips for items you don't actually have in stock.

Terrible customer service, quality and delivery!

by EILEEN D.

I spent over $4,500 at this store and they couldn't care less that $500+ worth of merchandise was delivered damaged! I asked for them to replace the items, but I had to bring these large items back myself, even though I paid over $200 for delivery! Since I hadn't gone through 18 boxes within 24 hours to check for damages, I was on my own! How in the world is someone going to get through 18 pieces of put-together-furniture with multiple pieces in 24 hours to see if there are any damaged parts? I had called within 48 hours, and they didn't care. The quality is poor, and customer service has a main call center somewhere in the mid-west who doesn't give a crap about their customers experience. I WOULD NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN. There are other alternatives which I should have considered. I thought the price was right, but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR - GARBAGE!

Poor Customer Serivce

by Janet H.

I drove 60 miles R/T to look at Kitchens and other items at the Emeryville store. I needed further dimensions, so I left the store with two lamps. One of the lamps was defective. When I called "Customer Service" I was treated like a "thief" when I explained I'd thrown away my receipt. I provided the exact date, check number and bank cancellation date and they said they would get back to me within 48 hours. 3 Days later someone left me a message to call the store in BURBANK! The customer service person in Emeryville, turned in the "case" (this is a $29.00 lamp) and didn't give the date of purchase or the store. I have NEVER had such terrible service from a store in this country in my life and I am 66 years old! They must pay these people nothing and give them absolutely NO TRAINING. They don't seem to realize how important customer service is to any sale. I won't go to IKEA again.

Can definitely spend

by Karen S. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,548

I can definitely get in trouble here. They have a lot of unique things here and they are reasonably priced. I even bought some bamboo plants from here and they're still alive. :)

Quality is more important than price

by Ciara-Jayne H. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 25

If you are looking for something that is different for your home, chances are you will find it at Ikea. From furniture for your whole house or office to a step stool to help your child reach the kitchen faucet they have it here. I have purchased a few items here at Ikea and although the price was very reasonable, I found the quality of the product was not as good. I expected to last a longer time than it did since the furniture I purchased was for my child. The drawers started to come apart after a few months and his bunkbead reinforcement on the top bunk broke after my son's friend slept on it. It was a good thing that it didn't fall on my son.

All day event

by sheetal b. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,041

I really love Ikea, its a great place to get some starter furniture. They have everything you need in one store. Everything from cabinets, to office furniture to bedroom furniture. The top floor has all types of funriture and the bottom floor is all accessories for the house. All of the furniture is displayed but not assembled. The good thing also is that the cafeteria is really good. It's filling and very very inexpensive. The parking is really easy since there is a garage. It's centrally located so it is very easy to get to. It is a good place to get some cheap stuff for really low prices.

Could spend all day

by Debbie T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,587

It's fun to wander and look around here. Don't bring the kids, they will distract you. Just wander around and think about the possibilities of what things would look like.

The stuff here is great, check it out.... Now that the palo alto store is up we go there most the time.

Friendly staff as well.

Nice place

by Brian T. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 282

Love IKEA and when this one opened we went a few times before the Palo Alto location opened.

Still a nice store, very big and excellent staff.

Food court was great too. The kids got hungry when we were up there and it helped to feed the little guys :)

Make sure you get there early so you beat most the crowds.

Can find some good things

by Justin B. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,138

You can find some good things here, but you can also find a lot of junky things too. This store is always packed. It can be really frustrating navigating through the store, getting around people. Then when you find what you want--you have to get through the checkout lines--which are a nightmare. I haven't found a good time to go to this place, it's always busy. If you have to return something here be prepared to take a number and wait, but at least there is seating while you are waiting.

PROS: Good prices
CONS: Crowded, Bad Parking, Slow returns

I love walking through their showcases beacuse you are able tosee eveything det up. This makes shopping so much easier beacuse you don't have to imagine everything from a box. the store is in a prime location with alot of parking. For all those people that want beautiful items at affordable prices, then visit IKEA. Its great

Graze Like Cattle Around Swedish Furniture

by Jay D. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,881

IKEA, for all its detractors, serves a real purpose. Cheap furniture that can fit in your coupe or sedan for transport and will last as long as you need it in this transitory existence we lead. I've been pretty happy with anything I've bought there, and they are pretty easy with returns if you're not. Also, though it may seem odd, the food in the upstairs cafeteria is really not sketchy. It's actually quite good.

amazing place to go

by Michael S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,102

All I have to say is that Ikea is a great place to go for all your household needs. Their prices are great if you're on a budget, and the selection is amazing. Plus, the food in their cafe is great and the view wonderful. Overall, great place to go, hang out, shop around, and have a fun time in addition to the other shopping thats around in that area.

Great stuff

by Gloria M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,096

This store has tons of nice furiture and great items. Be careful here because you can easily lose a child or yourself. With tons of stories and long aisles, you can spend hours here. Stuff I bought here are pretty good looking, but they break easily. The prices here are great, but if you're buying a bed frame or table, I suggest you spend a little more money so it wouldn't break on you.

Boring, Useful Furniture

by Ajna R. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,383

The Emeryville Ikea is all fun and games until you hit the checkout line. Like every other Ikea, it has exciting "rooms" set up with their boring but cute utilitarian style furniture, all with clearly marked price tags. Once out of the maze upstairs, however, the store begins to fall apart. The Marketplace section is a nightmare of crying babies, SUV sized shopping carts, and yuppies pawing discounted glassware. Once out of the Marketplace section, you still have to conted with the Warehouse section, where half of what you need is out of stock, and the Checkout Lines, where half of what you buy is mispriced by the unbelievably incompetant staff. If by some chance you have to return something you bought or need an item not on the shelves, be prepared to wait over an hour and possibly to come back another day.
Ikea has some great deals, but it is hard to tell if it is really worth the hassle.

PROS: inexpensive, great selection
CONS: sometimes poor quality, incompetant staff, items in stock vary widely

Good, But Crowded

by Megu W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,859

If you've been to an IKEA anywhere in the United States, then you'll know what's it's like to be in the Emeryville store. It's pretty much the same as the others, compared with the ones in So. Cal. and around the Bay Area. Maybe it's a little bigger, but nothing out of the ordinary... except... they have a pretty good parking solution. When they first built it out there was one huge lot, then they built a structure to accomodate more cars. I have always found parking at this IKEA.

PROS: cheap furnitue and lingonberry juice
CONS: lots of parking spaces

I love this place

by Jay D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,727

This place is great, it is so big, and they have so many products, literally everything you could want. Their products are very cheap too, and they focus mostly on modern furniture. There are some nifty products here, and you could spend your whole day here just going around and shopping.

They also serve food in case you get hungry, and the food too is good and cheap.

On the weekends, this place is packed, lots of college girls and just married couples come here to buy cheap furniture for their dorm or new house.

Scandinavian Furniture

by Alex B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,887

This is a huge store 274,000 SQ Ft of furniture and home furnishings. You can choose every aspect down to the draw handles and colour of the wood. They have alot of demo rooms set up so you can get some idea of what a room would look like full of the furniture. You have to assemble most of the furniture yourself when you get it home but it comes with everything you need and very clear instructions.

I love this place stop by their restaurant for the Chef Special Swedish meatbals and gravy - yummy

They added an extra parking structure which makes it alot easier to park than it used to be.

PROS: Cheap furniture and Swedish meatballs
CONS: The floor feels like there an earthquake
