This knitting place has been around for quite a while. It looks dowdy from the outside but carries very high quality yarn and ribbon. The staff have worked there forever and are expert teachers and helpers, and there's usually a group of women knitting at a communal table. It can be hard to get the attention of the staff because they're so chatty, but they're helpful once you get a hold of one.

They also offer finishing services, so they'll sew together the different pieces of a jacket or sweater, and make the necklines look nice. It's expensive but worth it after you've spent alot of time knitting something.

Pros: Selection and expert service

Cons: Expensive, open only half-days on Sunday

.

Good source for more obscure yarn, much from Europe (lots of Anny Blatt). This store skews older than Wildfiber and is smaller. However, the service is very friendly and they have lots of knitted garments showcased around the store. Rebecca magazine available here.

PROS: Friendly, interesting yarns
CONS: Small store, obscure brands of yarn

L'Atelier has a great selection of luxury yarns, knitting supplies, and knitting patterns. They carry Clover supplies, which are very good. If you buy yarn from them, you may receive help on your project until it is finished. All you have to do is bring your project to the store and pull up a chair at the worktable. The staff are all very knowledgeable and can make recommendations about any aspect of your project.

The yarn is expensive, but prices are average for that quality of yarn. The same goes for the supplies and patterns. You may need to park on the street, as the store only has two or three spaces assigned to them.

PROS: Free project help
CONS: Prices are average
