I used to go to this office back in 07, it was a mess back then. There was too many employees and nobody knew what was going on so i stopped going. I was referred to this place again by a friend that had a good experience. Wow, what a difference! The assistant told me that they are now under new management, and they have a new dentist working there that has a great reputation, his name is Laszlo Petruska. I saw dr Petruska and he is great! I was very nervous about having a root canal and he made me feel very comfortable. He also answered all of my questions and talked to me as he was doing the work to explain to me what he was doing. The staff is great and so are the assitants! they really cleaned up their act there!!!

I've had two different dentists in this office in Santa Barbara. Both the dentists and the dental assistants, as well as the office staff, have been awesome. Patient, kind, knowledgeable, listen to me, inform me, ask, recommend, and do

As a direct result of the work done by the supposed dentist that I saw at Gentle Dental in Santa Barbara, California, BOTH of my upper FRONT TEETH are NOW MISSING COMPLETELY AND FOREVER!!! Not Because of THAT DENTIST AT GENTLE DENTAL, I NOW need TWO FRONT IMPLANTS which will, by the way, cost around $10,000.00; additionally, the root canal that dentist did on me needs to be REDONE!!! CRIMINALS!!! YOU SHOULD GO TO PRISON!!!!!!!!!

I cannot remember the name of the dentist I saw here, but I had a few fillings done and they were terrible! The cement was too high and I had to go back to have it shaved down and the dentist said that it was "as good as he could get it." The assistant and he were both very unprofessional and I ended up going to a different dentist (Dr. Gregory Scarcello) and he was able to fix the botched job I received at Gentle Dental. If you can help it, do not go here.

So the reviews scared me away from coming to this office when I had an emergency. However due to the lack of many options becuase of my insurance and an incredible toothache, this was my last resort. Now I was a bit scared when i pulled up because the exterior of the building wasnt the nicest, however, I was pleasantly surprised when i walked in that it was not overcrowded and not dirty. I can honestly say the receptionist were polite, the girl who did my xray was VERY nice, and I was seen by a doctor who was helpful and helped me figure out my problem. I have been told by other dentist not to have work done here, however for an X-ray and diagnostic, they were fine. They did give me a pretty pricey quote for the work I need done but since it seems on par with what others would charge me, I think that I will find a better reviewed dentist to actually do the work. (Oh and I definetly do not consider myself a "low-end" kind of preson AT ALL" I am a student and covered under a parents plan) so nonetheless, It wasnt too bad for what I needed to do, Oh and they were able to get me in right away...maybe becasue no one goes there haha idk...

Went to this office because it was in-network for my insurance. Was charged for and forced to pay for a procedure that was never done, and my insurance company demanded the office refund the money to me. It refused to do so. Dentists under-reduced two teeth (as confirmed by three other dental offices) so that temporaries (which crumbled in my hand) fell off within hours, and permanent crowns were smaller and less stable than required. Dentist drilled a large hole through my bridgework so I have to have it replaced. The office refuses to give me my dental records, in violation of Health & Safety Code. Had to report them to the Dental Board and file a criminal complaint for fraud and battery.

Pros: None I can think of other than usually short wait to see dentist

Cons: "Cons": false charges, poor dental work

I previously went to Gentle Dental for an estimate on a crown replacement. A month had passed and I hadn't heard back from them and when I called, they said that my dentist no longer worked there and they would have to get back to me (which never happened). Shortly after, my crown broke while I was chewing gum. I called the office and said that I lost my crown and had to come in for a new crown. The receptionist was rude and impatient and exclaimed, "Dr. Shannon no longer works here. We have one dentist and she's booked!" I thanked her and said I would find another dentist and she sighed and said, "Fine, we'll take you." I took a work afternoon off and when I got there, she made me initial a paper that said I needed a re-cement. I asked her if the paper was right and reminded her that I needed a crown. I told her my crown was broken and she rolled her eyes at me and said, "I told you over the phone that our dentist was busy and won't have time for a dental work." This after I told her I needed a crown, I was willing to go somewhere else without a fuss, I took the afternoon off and they had my file showing that I needed a crown. This receptionist took it upon herself to put my appt. down as a re-cement job. I am a patient person but when the receptionist is making your dental decisions and has the unprofessionalism to roll her eyes at you, it's time to find a competent dentist office. I changed my entire family's dental provider after this because I don't wish this kind of experience for anyone. I do not recommend going to Gentle Dental in Santa Barbara.

Went there twice. They wanted the payment before they did any work. They had me sign legal forms each visit. And the work they did requires correction by another dentist.

I made an appt. to have a very expensive crown repaired which was only 3-4 yrs. old. They could not give any reason other than "it's porcelain over gold". I do not chew very much on that side because of a fragile bridge, so I know it did not fall apart from stress. They offered no compensation what so ever. Also, having read a report from the American Dental Assoc. dated 6/29/05 (www.ada.org) stating dental x-rays should be used sparingly, "dentists should order x-rays for paitents only if absolutely necessary for diagnosis", I specified I did not want/need x-rays. They refused to clean my teeth or repair my crown. Definately bad news.

Mission Dental used to be located on the floor above where I work (about 1 year ago). You could always hear kids crying, people yelling and screaming. They never even told their clients where their new location is because we still get patients asking us why they are not located in the same building. A co-worker actually went to Mission Dental and said it was dingy, unfriendly, unwelcoming, and filled with low-end people (those are her words, not mine). Who knows, maybe they've changed.
