I see the two bad reviews below and I had to write to counter them. Guitar Center, which is just a few doors down from Jim, recommends him very highly and sends their clients to him. They would never do so if he were not a high quality and dependable serviceman.

He has a crowded store full of backlogged work, yes. He's a little slow, yes. However, he admits that he's busy up front and warns you that you shouldn't be in a hurry. He quoted 4 weeks for my amp repair and I think it actually took 5 or 6, but it was back to mint condition and very affordable considering his expertise and experience.

If you can be patient I recommend him. I also recommend giving him a phone call now and then to gently push your repair towards the top of his list. :-) It's not nearly as bad as those other reviews make it out to be.

My experience was completely different than the last review. I have taken several pieces of equiptment to jim at music works. He always took way too long and he currently has an anp of mine that he has had for going on 3 yes 3 years. Very Very Very Very pooooor customer service.Even after several complaints to jim, after which every time he swore he was working on it or he would have it to me soon, he failed to live up to his word. Im pretty sure he was lying to me every time. Seriously the guy may do ok work on the stuff he wants to work on, but if you ever want your equiptment back, DONT TAKE IT TO MUSICWORKS IN LAWNDALE. Thanx Jim. You've really gotta get your S#!T together dude. And get my amp back to me. MORE THAN 3 F'n years Dude What the F.

I found out about this place through the Guitar Center, which happens to be next door. Music Works is a small shop tucked away in a little parking lot. It may not look like much, but don't let the appearance fool you. I took in my electric guitar because the frets on it I thought were corroding. It has a maple neck, so I wanted it to be cleaned professionally since I've never done it before. When I took it in, one of the guys looked it over, he was very friendly and knowledgeable. He explained to me that it was just oxidation and he quoted me a price for it. I asked him then if it's something I could do easily, and without hesitation he told me exactly how I could do this at home. He also added that it is very easy to do, it's just a matter of whether or not you want to put the time in to do it. So I thought it over and told him that I would do it myself. I felt bad so I had them address another problem on my guitar that I could not fix by myself. I had them fix my strap plug because it was stripped and was spinning around. When I got it back, the plug was completely secure and it felt like there was nothing ever wrong with it. I highly recommend these guys for the quality repair they did on my guitar as well as the way they sort of turned away my business because they knew I could do it just as easily for a few dollars. Since then I have recommended their business to everyone I know.

PROS: honest, quality work, independently owned
CONS: none

Don't let the appearance of the shop fool you. They don't focus on presentation like the Guitar Center down the street, they just fix your instrument quickly, inexpensively, and with great care.
