5 Stars: Amazing (by Meghan R.)

I walked in and thought I was in heaven. I own tons of design books and they had such a variety, I easily spent the afternoon there. If I could, I would go every week. The vast amount of art, architecture, design oriented books is just mind boggling. They also have a nice selection of cards and sketchbooks. The staff is very friendly. If going, make sure you don't have anything else to do for the day. You will need the time.

5 Stars: Incomparable resource for art & architecture books (by Kate H.)

This one of a dying breed, a REAL book seller with a specialization in art, architecture, photography and art biography. This store moved from the 3rd street Promenade a few years ago into ritzier digs on Wilshire Blvd. about three blocks from the ocean palisades. I know of no other store that can compete with their variety, quality or service.

PROS: Everything in print on art & architecture
CONS: Not a discount book seller..but that's the reason they're great

5 Stars: Long time fixture--Santa Monica bookstore (by D.B. R.)

This is not your "get a coffee and hang around the shelves and read" type bookstore. Hennessey and Ingalis has speciality art books (both new and lightly used) and also has hard to find collector books covering art and architecture. Come with a list of your needs and you will leave with all of them. If they don't have them on the shelves, they can find them. Prices are reasonable, but you won't find steals. The books are always in super condition, most like new. The store is not open in the evening or on Sundays. Parking can be tough. It is best to park in the city lots (if you can find a space). Be sure to bring money for the meters since all parking sports will charge when the store is open. Highest Recommendations!
