I remember shopping at Domus, in Los Gatos, with my Mom when I was in my teens - it always seemed like a treat to stop in. And, as an adult, I have always considered this place my guilty pleasure. When I got my fiirst apartment, I bought my first set of dishes here and, subsequently, all my kitchen gadgets. Its been my go-to place when I need a "kitchen" fix. I cannot leave this place without buying something. I LOVE this store.

And, I love that an independent store has been able to go toe to toes with the big boys like Williams- Sonoma and Sur La Table and stay in business. That says a lot for the business acumen of the owner.

So, given what I just said, I hope that what I am about to say, will be taken as constructive, if the owner should read this.

This brings me to why I gave this store four stars - instead of five.

In todays economy, and high unemployment, I would expect that it would be realtively easy to find appropriate staffing. And, perhaps the lapse of judgment in hiring the individual that I encountered on my last trip - was a family obligation. I that is the case - I truly symphathize. We have all been there.

But be aware that all the good efforts that are put forth to show a business in the best possible light, can be lost when one of their staff conducts themselves unprofessionally. I have a history with this store - and I am not willing to write it off based upon one sour encounter. Other individuals may not be so generous. And in this economy, that could spell financial disaster.

The raven haired, chubby, short, poorly attired, bearded woman in her upper 30s that I encountered was arrogant, surly AND rude. The trifecta for poor customer service.

I interrupted her tirade with a customer/friend(?) while she vented how the owner is a "biyach" and how bored she was, to ask a question.

Yeah, I know, I should have known better. I was in a rush, and had already waited for what had seemed like an eternity for the conversation to cease - but it showed no signs of coming to a close - so I interrupted the tirade. The response brought to mind the "Wrath of God".

OMG. I meekly backed off, only to hear myself denigrated to her customer/friend(?). Yeah, she did not even wait for me to be out of earshot - as she launched into another tirade about MY rudeness, and the difficulties in dealing with the customers in general.

WOW!

First, if she has a problem with her boss - that is best not discussed in an open enrironment. And, from what I observed - she should be kissing the owners feet for hiring her in the first place.

Second, if she has a problem with the customers - why did she take the job?

So, please do not hesitate to shop here - its a great store. But if you find the "clerk/sales associate" I described bearing down on you - duck and cover, or head for the nearest exit.

Pros: Great selection at fair prices.

Cons: Needs work on customer service!

Domus is a bit of paradise for me because it has so much of what I like!
Gadgets, tools, even stuff for the kids.
I can easily spend hours in this store.

Which I did last time I was there.

My 6-year old son loves coming to this shop. There's a lot of things to see and touch. They sell a variety of toys that he just loves to play with. I like looking at their selection of Christmas ornaments during Christmas.

Domus is a great little store right in the heart of Los Gatos. It has a wide variety of kitchen items both practical and extravagant, but it's so much more than a kitchen store. It's also a fabulous source of gift ideas, stocking everything from candles and books to beautiful glass and seasonal items. They also have a large selection of cards and gift bags to present your gift in style. Usually I go in looking for a gift and I end up finding something wonderful for my own house as well! Definitely a fun place to shop!

Domus has such an array of merchandise, and stuff tucked in all sorts of nooks and crannies! I can spend hours in this store! From really nice cooking gear (serving pieces, linens, cookware & gadgets) to kiddie toys, there's so much to choose from at Domus. A lot of the merchandise is unusual, meaning you can't find it elsewhere and I like that. It's one of my must-see stops when I'm in Los Gatos.

I can't go into Domus without walking out with something great (that I can't live without). They have a large and unique selection of kitchen and decorative merchandise and a kids section that is fabulous (especially for stocking stuffers). I try to limit myself to shopping there for gifts for others so that I can justify the gifts I end up buying for myself.

Domus is a great place to purchase that hard to find cooking tool that you have been looking for. They have a huge selection of cookie cutters, aprons and cook books. If you can't find the product you are looking for at Domus, then it doesn't exist.

My wife and I spent hours in this store looking over all the very cool things they have for cooking. I never realized how many new gadgets they have for cooking.

Ton's of baking things too to help with that special cake.

Love it here.

Domus is located along downtown Los Gatos. Easy to find with parking nearby. This is a very large store. My first impression is that it is a kitchen store, but it also rounds out it's selection with linen, clocks, bath, toys, and stationary items. They stock many unique items I've never seen anywhere else. For the gourmet cook, this is the place to go to find the latest in gadgets. I always have fun perusing the items for unique gifts. The store is very nicely laid out and always in order.

This is one of my favorite stores, I cannot walk in downtown Los Gatos without going in to Domus. They sell a huge array of items (kitchen tools/clocks/books/children gifts/candles, etc.). The store is big and parking is a breeze - huge public parking lot behind the store. The staff are great, very friendly. If you need a gift for anyone you will be able to find it here - it's a fabulous store.
