Ratings_icons Amf Bay Shore Lanes is a hopeless bowling alley

Matt S. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,817

This place kinda sucks. My friends and I usually go bowling at Pinz in the valley, but decided to try AMF since it was close.
From the moment I walked in, I knew it was going to be bad. The place was so ghetto! Everything looked old and dirty. The tiles on the ceiling were discolored and some of them looked like they were falling off. There was a light-up sign for the womens bathroom which had a cracked case and the light kept flickering on and off. (Someone forgot to pay the electricity bill).

The only good thing about AMF was the unlimited bowling deal they had. The deal was $21 per person and you can play as many times as you want from 11PM-2AM. At first I thought it would be fun to play unlimited games, but after I saw the bowling shoes I changed my mind. The shoes smelled bad and I felt disgusted by putting my feet in them.
After taking a few minutes to decide whether we should stay or not, my friend and I came up with a plan to scum the bowling alley and make our own deal, 2-for-1.
We split the $21 price and got one pair of shoes and one wristband. Since I was wearing long sleeves, I gave the wristband to my friend and put the shoes on myself. After we set up the game and put our names into the computer, there was a security guard (who looked like he hated his job) going around to check that everyone was wearing a wristband and shoes. He was looking from far away and couldn't really see us, but kept glancing over every couple of minutes. My friend and I decided to take turns and switch the shoes each time. After a while the security guard went away and we just wore our own shoes and put the bowling shoes away.

We played about 4 games with our 2-for-1 deal and swore never to come back to AMF again!

Besides the unlimited bowling, everything about it sucked!

I recommend anyone who wants to go bowling to NOT go to AMF, and instead go to Lucky Strike Lanes in Hollywood or Downtown, or even Pinz in the valley.

Ratings_icons Fun, cheap place for a good night out

A A. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,989

Pico Bowl is a great place for group event with friends. It's open late and it's very casual and inexpensive (no fancy cocktails here). You definitely need to reserve lanes Friday and Saturday nights as it gets quite crowded and sometimes lanes are hard to come by.

PROS: Cheap and fun
CONS: Crowded on weekends

Ratings_icons Great place for kids parties

Stan G. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,920

This is a wonderful bowling alley with a fantastic area for kids to have birthday parties. First, you can bowl. Then, you can go to the party room for pizza, cake, and other goodies. Finally, you can go to the arcade machines and play the games. The kids just love it. For regular bowling time, it's fun, too. If you go other than on the weekends, it's not too crowded. They have a FREE parking lot right outside, too.
