I have been to 100s of comic and sports card shops across this country. Bases, Cards, and Comics is as good a shop as they come. This store has been in business & I've been one of their faithful clients for 21 yrs. From the day they opened, which at that time, this area had eight other Comic & Pro-Sports Cards shops. They had stiff competiton when the nation was going through a time when investors were buying up anything they could, & placing a premium on them. These were the investors who drove the market thru the roof, while Card companies competed producing up to 78 different MLB sets alone. Because of the generous, helpful and kind staff this store, has been the one & only store of the previously mentioned 8 local stores, to remain open, and thrive while the other stores were going bankrupt. Now how does this happen. It's due to many circumstances. One Bases caters to their customers, & talks to kids on their own level, & doesn't belittle anyone, like many other card shops would do. Bases has never over priced any of their product, which is one of the biggest reasons the other 7 stores no longer are in business. Those stores, priced themselves out of the market, with a lesser inventory of product, & a less than kind attitude towards their customers. It is because of the relationship the Staff at Bases has with their customer fan base, & fair prices, with a superior inventory of anything your looking for, that Bases survived the investor specualtive entrance into our Hobby, thinking they were creating a new market for sports cards. Of which anyone over the age of 30 should know this, older persons certainly know what I am talking about.
Another very nice feature I will never forget about Bases, was when they had the legendary Michael Turner in their shop to autograph items for his fans. That was one of the most important days of my life, to hang out with and talk to Turner until I had nothing left to say. Turner even pulled a pencil drawing he was still working on which was a centerfold he was drawing at the time for Wizard Magazine. I was stunned with the common man mentality & no arrogance at all with Turner. He took me in, showed me special drawings of his, that no one had even seen yet, and talked as long as I could hang with him. These are just some of the many things that make Bases, Cards and Comics your one stop shopping store for the Sports Card or Non Sports Card collector, as well as Comic book treasures galore, and even a bid board, which often has my favorite 50s era MLB cards for a very decent price or bid. I have been going to this store weekly for 21 yrs. Now, take this comment & compare it to the couple of kiddies comments who haven't matured enough to even leave a fair reply on this store. Which is here to stay, they overcame their oppostion in every regard, and survived Bush's recession, both Bush's that is. Kudos to my very favorite Comic Book & Card store. If I had to move out of this state into another one I would still do mail order business with Bases, before I would even frequent any local store, that is how highly I regard the owners & staff at Bases, WORLD CLASS. Ah, I love the smell of fresh comic book paper & fresh baseball cards. Their prices like I said are very reasonable. Why anyone would say otherwise, would be from a immature kid not knowing how much these collectibles & such other stock costs each store owner. Take & buy one book, which is published monthly called Previews. Here you will see exactly how much each store has to pay for the items they sell to the public. On top of that the amount each store makes from their sales is not much compared to other commerce of other types. You don't see 100% or 1000% mark ups like you would in a car parts store, or a grocery store. No, Bases is competive & very fair with their prices. I have been doing business with the Mgr. James since 1986, when he had his first small shop outside of town. If you cannot trust or put your full faith in James, then their is no one on the face of earth you could trust. James is a commodity as the Manager of Bases, and has become a good friend over 25 years. To this I say Hats Off to Bases, and KUDOS for doing such a great business & providing us, the public with a place, to go to weekly to fulfill our dreams which began in our childhood. I still get the same rush I got as a kid, when I open a new pack of cards, or a set, or my 40 plus comics I collect monthly full of great stories. This IS the Golden Era for comic book enthusiasts, and will again be for MLB card collectors. Thank YOu Bases for your many years of wonderful service. I don't know what I would of done without you guys,.

Decent store for general comic book purchases, but not enough manga for me. I do understand the main stream sellers, but there are a lot of us out there who want manga. And why not have a website? What's with that?

Although Bases Cards & Comics is a little difficult to find they are planning on moving near the 14 freeway and Ave. M. They plan on constructing a 5000 square foot mega store. It's hard to imagine more products than they already carry, they have a huge selection of comics and cards. The prices are fair and the service is outstanding. Every Wednesday is new comic day and they bag and board all the new arrivals. I highly recommend Bases, it's the best shop that I've ever been to.

Bases Cards and Comics is to expensive and is overrated. Although Bases does have a great collection of Cards and Comics, the prices are way to much and there location sucks. I have visited Bases many times only because they are Basicly the only shop out here and whenever another card shop is opened and accessible without driving 15 minutes i will definitely stop attending the store. I mean don't get me wrong the store has a great selection, but the prices are way too much and it is disappointing because they have real potential to become a great card shop. In all if this store would lower prices and have better deals on buying items, it would a great store, but until then I won't recommend this establishment.
