I like the fusion trademark that they have in this place. I went here the first time last weekend with some friends and I am looking forward to going back.

Great flavor fusion. There are a lot of dishes that I really wanted to try. There are some good desserts as well. I have to go back for more to experience the whole thing.

This place is cheap and they have really good carnitas. They used to have birria, but I have been told they don't anymore. It's a good place to eat, but the parking is sometimes difficult to find.

My friend and I were famished after an early morning walk on the beach, and an hour of shopping @ Ikea. We wanted something quick, but not fast food quick, so she recommended Taco Mesa. She warned me that not to be put off by the fact that it was a converted Taco Bell, and assured me that the food was good and flavorful.

We ordered two tacos each - two each of carne asada, and carnitas pibil (roasted pork in red sauce) - for just over $8. The tacos are served in the small, palm-sized corn tacos (two per taco) and virtually stuffed with meat, diced onions and cilantro. They were filling without being too heavy, and went along nicely with the cold Bohemia we picked up at a nearby store.

The place was a bit crowded, but we were in and out relatively quickly, and were served by gracious employees who were pleasant in spite of the crowds. Definitely recommended.

Pros: Billed as fresh and healthy and delivers on that promise

Cons: A little small, not much ambience, but OK

I don't like burritos with rice and beans so I love their blackened chicken burrito. Another plus is their avocado salsa which is great with chips or all over anything you order. They are usually crowded so seating can be hard to find but be patient and a spot usually opens up. It's mostly outdoor seating so go on a nice day.

No frills, gourmet style mexican fusion. The food is decent/good so long as you know that it isnt authentic style mexican food you're going for, it's sort of a fusion like you might find at Kantina. The prices are comparable to Kantina but there is no service, no ambience and you eat on an uneven concrete patio on uneven tables. If you're going to spend this kind of money on Mexican food spend a little more and go to El Ranchito or Kantina. At Kantina you have the same style Mexican fusion with smoking hot wait staff, great drinks, hot customers, good views and ambience. I'd pass up the concrete fushion with a view of the DMV and no service for Mexican fushion near the bay.

Pros: Hmmm....

Cons: Long wait in line due to slow inefficient order taking, no service, lame dining area

Don't here looking for authentic mexican food. It's a little over rated. But, WOW ... the salads are huge and cheap. ~Try Jugos Acapulcos down the street for an authentica experiencia~

Ok. This is not taco bell. This is upscale, gourmet mexican food in a fast food building. No drive through. No great views. No beautiful dining room or free chips. Paper plates and a serve yourself salsa bar. A patio view of the DMV and McDonalds. Small parking lot and uneven patio. BUT...the BEST GOURMET MEXICAN FOOD you will get anywhere!!! You cant go wrong with anything you order. I am particularly fond of their nachos and salads. We buy the tamales by the dozen for Christmas dinner. EVERYTHING is wonderful. But check it out for yourself, press reviews and menus are available at taco mesa dot net.

Bring a relaxed attitude and be prepared for great food and plenty of it. This is one of the most casual restaurants you will find. Flip flops and shorts, uniforms and suits....all in the same place at lunch time. This is seriously one of the best dining bargains in the OC--IMHO.

Pros: Food, quality and presentation is terrific; excellent kids menu

Cons: limited seating, parking, view....Not a lot of room for kids to run around

Food was NOT CHEAP nor was it good. I paid $20.00 for two burritos and two regular drinks.

Food here is great and the place is often pretty crowded. I hear the tortas are especially yummy although I'm not a big sandwich person so I haven't had them personally.

Although it's kind of pricey, the food is very good and fills you up quickly. Not just your normal "mexican" restaurant, they are really creative with their plates, and it shows in their taste. Good atmosphere, and definitely skater/surfer cultured decorations. Gets an A++ from me, but it gets packed during the lunch hours, so seating might be limited.

From order till I got my food was about 20 minutes, Taco shell was burnt and there was some fish in the chicken taco, myself not being a seafood person was shocked.

On my last visit to Taco Mesa I braved construction and trenches on 19th street in order to take my out-of-town guest to experience one of my fave SoCal locale's. If you've ever wondered what wallpaper designed exclusively out of skateboard stickers would look like, this is the place to go for the visual. If you want a wide variety of interesting and delicious mexican food, this is ALSO the place to go. Go for the food, and take in an eyeful with the decor and the locals hanging out waiting for their comida! Taco Mesa has a lot of very original items; the unique character of their building is mimicked by their menu (or is it vice versa?). I can't even begin to reccommend an entree - the menu is just too varied. Go there, stare at the menu until something jumps off the menu at you and then enjoy it!

PROS: Great atmosphere, great service, menu has lots of variety
CONS: Very popular, call ahead if you know what you want!

It's not really fair to describe this as Mexican food, because it is not like anything else out there; these creations are amazing. The perfect cross between gourmet and fast food. Maybe the best meal for 2 under $20 in Orange County

Taco Mesa rivals the best Mexican Food In Southern Ca. The food is a cross between traditional mexican food and trendy culinary gourmet. Blackened Fish, Calimari, Chicken, Salmon, Shrimp, Crab....the menu rivals most restuarants charging twice as much. For Value, Uniqueness, gourmet taste...Taco Mesa is way under-rated. The lobster Bisque is to die for.

There are several Taco Mesa's in Orange County. The food is pretty good, and it is a little different than the ordinary Mexican food...so it is a welcomed change at times.

I'm sorry, but how can anyone write a review and not mention the blackened calamari tacos? There are numerous changing specials and if you cry and plead, they'll sometimes make you an order of tacquitos de cammarones, an incredible concocoction stuffing plump wholes shrimp into rolled red corn tortillas, quick-frying them and serving under lines of guacamole, salsa and cheese. The patio slopes downhill toward the DMV and customers can be downright strange, but pop a Modela Negro beer and soak it up!

Taco Mesa prepares the best Mexican food in the area. The blackened chicken tacos and burritos are the best. I try to enjoy as many of the daily specials as possible.

They're affordable and authentic. A must for mexican food lovers.
