Ye Olde Hoosier Inn

Ye Olde Hoosier Inn has been a destination landmark dining spot in Stockton for at least two generations that I know about.

Packed on Sundays after church, the Hoosier Inn features several dining rooms loaded with an assortment of Victoriana, in this rambling Wilson Way eatery just north of Harding Way.

Breakfasts are huge, so bring your appetite for chicken fried steak, steak and eggs, ham steak and omelets served with lots of butter, gravy and other artery-clogging goodness.

The waitresses are experienced, super friendly and the coffee nevers stops coming unless you firmly set your foot down. The booths are a bit shopworn and the thin carpet molds itself to the slightly warped floor boards which somehow add to the homey ambience-you'll feel like honored guests at a favorite, maybe slightly eccentric aunt's house!

Lunch and dinner offer plenty of predictable choices, between steaks, chops, meatloaf, chicken and a couple fish selections., with the nod to Midwestern tastebuds creating inoffensive, highly filling chow at fair prices.

PROS: Breakfast bargains, Friendly Service
CONS: Furnishings could use a little sprucing up
