Another kitchen, another great experience. Even when by Miele dishwasher arrived in a perfect box but had a dent on the door they rushed a panel out to me and put it on the same day so I wouldn't have to deal with a service call. This is my third kitchen in 35 years and my kids even shop here now. Great Family business and great customer service as always.

I am very disappointed about the review on this store i found on the internet. It appeared to have good reviews on Yelp *(although later we found out that all the negative reviews are placed at the bottom) and my husband and decided to buy a fridge at this place. We are serious buyers and want to splurge a little to buy a quality brand that last. The sales guy recommended a brand, 1st day after installation, the fridge is making a high pitch noise that was aside from standard cooling. I am concerned about the quality and called them to schedule for return.

Guess what? They have a NO RETURN policy on everything. Are we still living in the 21st century??? Anyhow, i was first told either to talk to their legal team or CEO. Then later told i have to go through their repair process, only if it is not repairable, can the fridge be refunded. $2900 spent to get a "repairable" fridge?

To make it even worse, after calling the two repair services, nobody was answering the phone.

If you are serious about buying something and not to be stuck with quality issue outside your control, you should NEVER go to this place. I hope others will not fall into their trap as i feel obligated to warn the serious buyers.

This is my first purchase at University Electric but I will go back. I ordered a custom rangehood on Saturday and it arrived Tuesday. The price was the same as the best internet price I found but without the shipping charge. The manufacturer had left out an attachment in the box so I called in as soon as I discovered this. To get me going they raided a box from the same manufacturer in what looks to be their huge inventory, rather than making me wait two weeks for resupply. Good professional service and response, can't ask for more

When I was remodeling my kitchen I checked all possible sources for my new appliances. University Electric was recommended by my kitchen designer (Marina of Kitchen Galleries), and that made my task really simple. Gregg was my sales person, he took the time to show me different models of ovens, explained the difference between them in performance, quality and price, and found exact appliances my designer was trying to fit in the new kitchen space. I had a lower quote from Pacific Sales but University Electric matched it with no problem. I liked the service, which was professional and friendly, and also the fact that their sales people are not on commission, and did not push me to buy the most expensive stuff.

We have been a longtime customer of University Electric, occasionally buying quantities of appliances in a single order. IE, 10 refrigerators at a time. In the past, we have had to call them to find out if an item had arrived at the store, only to learn that it had been sitting there for some number of days. Our most recent experience was a disaster. We were quoted a price on a new refridgerator, and a somewhat pricy delivery and haul away fees. We opted to order the item, and do a will call, and attend to our own delivery and haul-aways. Delivery was quoted as one week, and that that supplier delivered on wednesdays. Wednesday came and went without a call. On Wed Evening, we called University, and were put on hold for 5 minutes, and then were told that the item was on back order??? we inquired as to a new delivery date, and the sales person said they would call back with the info. No call-back. On Thursday we tried again, and the owner said that our refrig would be delivered to Los Angeles next week, and provided that there was at least 25 other items ready for shipment from LA to santa clara, then our Refridg would be delivered the following week. I think we are done with University Electric. What a shame, but we just dont find them to be reliable anymore.

Pros: nearby, and a 30 year account

Cons: bad attitude, no appliance and no notification

The order manager called me from University Electric today and reminded me that the sales tax was going up on April first and if I wanted to save that increase we could pay in full and lock in the price. Incredible! Who calls you on this stuff. We did not even think about it and even though it is a small amount ($225) we paid our balance because our kitchen is done and the delivery is scheduled on April 8th. Thanks for the call!!!!

I bought a kitchen full of appliance from this business a few years ago and had a great experience. What happened the other day floored me. I went in with a broken glass for my microwave turntable. I was hoping they could refer me to somewhere I could get a replacement if they did not sell them. A guy from the back office, Mike, came to the counter as I was talking to someone else as he overheard the conversation. He took the glass and went to the back. About 10 minutes later he reappeared with a replacement. He sprayed some cleaner on it and wiped off the dust and handed it to me. I asked what it cost and he said "On the House, I save these glass trays when we have to throw away DOA units and these cost about $100 so I keep them and give them to our customers who happen to break one." I can't remember having someone give me a $100 part for free before but I am going to be back here when my washer finally goes out. Thank You Mike and University Electric.

I had been shopping for a kitchen appliance package and was referred to Standards by a friend. I went there and was PUSHED into Kitchenaid brand appliances even against my wishes. The salesman was pushy and would not answer any questions, it was all about price. My contractor referred me to University Electric so I went there on a Saturday and was pleased to see that they had the appliances I was asking for from Stand. The salesperson, Andy, gave me his opinon on the brands I wanted versus what Stand had suggested. Andy told me that even though Kitchenaid was a good brand the products I had selected on my own were better because of customer service issues and features. The package arrived early January and we are extremely pleaded. We called a couple of times to have dimensions faxed to our contractor and whoever answered the phone, Mark I think, sent them right away. I talked to my friend about Stand and he told me that the people there get a kickback from Kitchenaid to sell their stuff and that is why they push that brand. That sickended me. My friend is maybe not so much of a source of information I thought. Thanks Andy and crew at UE. Great job and I plan to recommend you to all my friends.

Don't bother with other appliance stores. Go straight to University Electric. We just did a new kitchen project and I did my due diligence and researched all my appliances and vendors in the area and online. After deciding on buying locally, I visited several showrooms and was very annoyed at the heavy pressure to buy and the lack of product knowledge by the staff. Some sales people just made things up as they went along! I was so relieved to walk into University Appliance. EJ showed me all the appliances I was interested in and was low pressure. I took my time to decide and called back in a rush and EJ took care of me. They were effective and efficient, and best of all, everyone at University Electric were so courteous and a pleasure to do business with. Any future appliance purchases will be with University Electric, hands down!

Ready to help, not a sales person attitude
I bought all my appliances there.
Oh, I forgot to mention that there prices were the best, without a compromise on service.
Good delivery too.

My wife and I went to University Electric on the recommendation of our contractor and a friend. It was busy but we did not have to wait long. The salesperson who waited on us took his time to explain the features of the appliances we wanted to buy. We spent about an hour or so and he gave us a quote. I was amazed that throughout the sales presentation we were not pressured to buy, this has been our experience with most major purchases. We made two more trips into the store before we made our purchase. The appliances were delivered in cartons and were put into our garage and our contractor installed them. We now have a beautiful kitchen with awesome appliances that work great. Our purchase was about $16,000.00. After reading the reviews below and being in retail myself (furniture store owner) I decided to write this review. I understand that not everyone can be satisfied with even the best service. From what I saw on my 3 trips to the store and phone calls, delivery, etc. These guys know what they are doing. I am sure that the from how many customers they take care of that only a small few walk away with a bad experience, unfortunately those are who usually write complaining. If all the satisfied customers would write in there would probably be pages of praise.

Extremely rude service! Do not bother with this business. I went to their store today to buy $7000 worth of appliances and the sales rep was so rude I decided not to buy from them even through their prices were lower than other stores. I ask the salesman's if I found a cheaper price would they match it if I bought it all today. He rudely claimed I won't find it cheaper and they don't price match guarantee. I had enough of his smug attitude and got a price quote from the store and went straight to Sears. Sears matched their price with an extra ten percent off. I guess this company thinks they have the market cornered and can treat their customers poorly. Well keep treating people like dirt and you won't have a business. \r
\r
However, on a positive side, use this store to go see a large variety of brands but buy somewhere where you are valued as a customer.

I have done 2 kitchens now and both times ended up buying all my appliances at university. I have shopped all the major stores and consistently found them to be extremely competitive with no sales pressure. The staff I dealt with has always been professional and knowledgeable. Do not go to this store for lower quality brands of appliances. They carry the mid to high end. A bit of a challenge to find the first time but worth it.

We found this place through research online. The showroom isn't too bad, and there is a variety of items available to look at. The sales force was engaged, but only after you got one to talk to you (it was busy on Saturday). The refrigerator we bought was the floor model, but it was more or less brand new (no observable scratches on the face of the door, pristine interior). Of course, the price ""was right"". The sales person promised it would be cleaned and wrapped well for delivery. However, on delivery day, we received this item in a damaged state, with minor scratches and a fairly apparent dent in the door. The fridge had not been wrapped to any degree either, and the bottom freezer door kept sliding in and out as they unloaded it from the truck. Needless to say we rejected the delivery. On a follow up trip back to the store (and another wait), our sales person attributed the problem to bad delivery people, but these are members of their own business and not a 3rd party! In the store, we actually saw them complaining to each other! It was terrible, and showed exactly the type of service that they really provide! At this point a week later, we're still working on getting the refund on our credit card - they appear to be trying to delay repayment for some reason and we were given a receipt which had not transacted (ie. no approval code, etc)! Terrible experience and absolute terrible customer service behavior, but you get what you pay for. We ended up getting our fridge from Airport Appliance in Hayward, and have not had any problems at all!

They have a big selection, but their sales staff is not in a hurry to sell anything. I did not enjoy the experience when I purchased a Viking Professional 1 year ago. Even bigger mistake, I did not purchase an extended warranty. My oven went out completely after just using the convection for the 4th time in a little over a year. Are there really that many lemons out there or is it just sub-standard products? I bought a Bosch dishwasher at the same time and that has already had problems as well. Don't forget your extended warranties! (which you really shouldn't need)

We bought four kitchen appliances and a washer at University Electric. We are displeased with two out of five of these appliances.

The side-by-side counter-depth fridge proved to be a lemon. Its water dispenser rarely works. Its ergonomic re-configurable shelves and containers are unusable. To top it all, this morning (in the 3rd year of the fridge) we found that it has heated its contents to 90F.

The washer, billed as a highly water and energy efficient model, is not usable without constant attention. It stops in the middle of its cycle if the load is not angularly uniformly distributed.

In summary, do not trust the sales people to give you advice about the reliability and usability of the appliances.

Go to University Elecric for great prices, great selection and great service. The location is in more of an industrial area than a retail area, but the trip is worth it.

In our recent kitchen remodel we priced appliances from a variety of local vendors and even looked at on-line appliance sellers. I wanted good grade appliances but was not interested in the super expensive gourmet lines, such as Viking and Subzero.

Before visiting University Electric I felt like my choices were either to go to a premium line vendor and ask if they had anything cheaper or go to Home Depot or Best Buy and ask if they had anything a little nicer.

On the recommendation of a friend I visited University Electric Home Appliance Center. I ordered my appliances that very night.

UE has a big show room with a huge selection. I could examine the appliance I was considering. They had all the premium stuff, (like Viking and Subzero) the middle lines (such as Bosch, Kitchenaid, GE Profile) and the economy lines (such as Frigidaire). You could see it all and compare.

Second, I felt no sales pressure. There were no hungry commission agents crusing for fresh customers. I wandered around the showroom till I had a question. Then I went to a desk and ask for help. They were busy and I had a short wait to get help. I was very comfortable with Mary. She gave me matter of fact advice. She had opinions and could give reasons for them. I felt she provided me very helpful knowledge that was valuable to me in makingmy final selections.

Third, the prices were good. I got a bid from a high end appliance place that was many hundreds of dollars more expensive. UA even filled out manufacturers rebate forms for me! I don't believe that I paid a cent more than I would have anywhere else.

Delivery was when scheduled and professionally done. All appliances arrived with out a scratch and in perfect working order.

PROS: Big showroom lots on display knowledgable salesforce great prices
CONS: A little off the beaten path.
