UPDATE: I have finally tracked down the folks at ABC Financial and I have been able to convince them to stop billing me. I have an email from them stating that they have stopped billing me and will refund the amounts billed since they received the written cancellation notice. When the refund was not forthcoming, they sent me an email saying that the club denied the refund and that I need to work it out with the club manager. The club manager has not taken nor has he returned my calls. ORIGINAL POST: I signed up for a membership. They tried to push me into a long term contract but I chose to pay the higher price for a month-to-month membership. The guy who signed me up said that he would "guarantee" my rate for six months. When I got home and actually read what he and written (and I admittedly signed), he had written it into the place that made it a six month contract - at the higher month-to-month rate. I let it slide and indeed I've been a member for more than a year. In October, I tried to cancel my membership in person. Matt Jefferson, the manager, told me that I had to write a letter. I did. I send it USPS overnight with a signature confirmation. They have not cancelled my membership and continue to bill me. They bill through ABC Financial in Arizona. ABC Financial puts you on perma-hold. I can get my automated statement on the phone saying my account is in good order but I have never been able to get a live person on the line no matter how long I hold (record so far is 40 minutes). Now no one answers at the gym itself. I've now had to get American Express innvolved. I WISH I HAD READ THE ONLINE REVIEWS BEFORE GOING THERE. AVOID THIS PLACE.

Pros: Location

Cons: My experience: Unscrupulous, deceptive & underhanded contracts & billing practices. AVOID

All the reviews you see about them ripping people off are true! Do not sign up for any auto billing! I cancelled and still continued to receive bills. When I refused to pay I was put into collections screwing up my otherwise perfect credit record. Don't let the cheap membership and convenient westside location fool you... it's not worth it! Pay $20 more per month at any other gym and not deal with their shady business practices. Karma will get you Powerhouse and I will laugh when it does.

Great staff! they take care of all your needs. Members are amazing, very clean and inexpensive. Best gym experience ever, been a member for five years only gym i'll ever train at. No corporate gym feeling like 24 hr or LA fitness. Private nieghborhood type gym never too crowded. Keep up the good work guys.

Power house has all I was asking for. Very fair prices, great equipment, and a very friendly staff. They just added spinning, yoga and kick boxing classes which are great. Very clean facility, taken care of nicely. The staff makes you feel right at home. Just wish they would add a little more time on the parking validations. Other then that its all good.

Lousy, lousy. Filthy place. They promise to reimburse you and fail to. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER OR BANK ACCOUNT. My dispute with them is going on a year now.. Shaun, the manager, is a liar. I have him on my voicemail promising me to send me a check FOR $895 that he admits owes me - even if it has to come from his own pocket. Shaun, attend to your furious customers, or don't you believe in karma?

BOYCOTT, please!

I singed up through a third party but Power House kept asking me to pay for a new membership with them. I explained to them that I am already paying for my membership through this third party but they didn't like that.

Finally after offering me a slightly cheaper membership I agreed. They told me TWICE they would cancel my other membership so that I wouldn't get double billed. They didn't cancel and when I went in to complain about it they lied and said I was supposed to cancel! I am waiting for my refund, which they said will take up to 10 business days.

Do not trust these a-holes. Boycott this gym!!

Joyce is the most amazing woman on this planet. She always has a smile on her face. That's really encouraging because I dread working out. We started off with weights and focused on my form. This gym is medium-sized, which makes me feel claustrophobic. I wish the treadmills faced the windows instead of the work-out machines.

This gym is a purely a training gym. If you want to meet with a trainer or lift weights and that is all you want to do, then this is your gym. The equipment is decent, and the cardio equipment gets updated every now and then. This gym only has the bare necessities, and it does not offer classes. If you want to do more than lift weights and meet with a trainer, then I would think twice about joining. There are no yoga, tai chi, kick boxing classes, or pool. Also, I would suggest people look at the members since it mostly consists of weight lifters.
